Planet Sub

This is the best sub sandwich I’ve had — maybe ever! It was hot, fresh, and delicious both mine and my friend’s. I tried the torpedo and my friend had the super hero. The bread is so good! The staff is friendly and helpful too. It is the only location in town at the moment, but worth the trip.

Restaurant has an industrial vibe. Ordered the loaded tots and meatball sub. Both were AMAZING! Parking available next to entrance. Great spot for lunch or dinner.

I’ve been about 4 times and the experience is consistently inconsistent. Generally the subs are good — the bread has a toasted quality and the ingredients seem fresh — similar to WhichWich but less tightly wrapped. Today’s sandwich, a turkey club, was a little mayonnaisey. The beverages are the biggest letdown. The ice tea has been acceptable once in 4 trips. Today’s was almost undrinkable — cloudy and bitter. Even the sweetened tea couldn’t overcome the off taste. The Coke was too syrupy. But it seems like all fountain Cokes leave a lot to be desired. I’d like for this place to make it but the crowds are always thin at lunchtime. After at least 6 months in business they can’t seem to get the place buttoned up. Any of the half dozen or so chains around have their drinks figured out. I’ll be back because of the convenience and the sandwiches.

I came in here over another spot bc I wanted a place with wifi so I could work and have lunch in an environment that wasn’t too clamorous during the busy lunch hours. The place wasn’t crowded at all. The environment is clean and music isn’t too loud and distracting. My sub was just okay though. I ordered a pastrami and the meat was chewy, tough and almost inedible. The bread didn’t save this sandwich and wasn’t the greatest part either. I won’t come back bc it was not that great of a lunch for me. Peace!

Okay, not really a fan. I had the Experience and loaded tots. I was super underwhelmed with both. Tots lacked flavor and not even cheese.

Isn’t a sub just a sandwich? A long sandwich? With so many sandwich places in Deep Ellum, I was bothered that there was going to be another one.
I was so wrong, as usual, with my presumptuous self. I haven’t been to Subway in a long time. I can’t stand the Subway smell. I always equated it with «smelly subs», but now that I know what good ones are like, I’m ready to ride this sub spaceship into cheesy filled space.
While it’s common to have a selection of bread, Planet Sub has one that needs no substitution. With only a tender crunch and hints of sweet grain, it’s not a heavy piece that engulfs its fillings; It features those meats and vegetables adjacent to a downy pillow of bread.
Pat Baby had a laugh when I asked him where the french fries were at. «Subs are eaten with chips», he remarked, but luckily they had something just as good for pairing: Tater Tots.
Alright, that might be heresy, but you can cover them in cheese and cheese is another thing Planet Sub does well.
With a nice selection of vegetarian options, The Veggie sub has delightfully stretchy cheese, one that strings along after a hefty bite. They even have tempeh which you can swap out the meat in other subs for, but it is pretty enjoyable in their BBQ one (think McRib’s older and highly sophisticated brother). Oh and that beautiful Buffalo sub. Pat Baby ate an entire one once as I gawked greedily at it like a hyena eyeing baby Simba.
No, you’re not just another sandwich shop, Planet Sub. You’ve taken a piece of my heart and slapped it in between warm cheesy brilliant bread.

The first two times I went, the food was great. I got the Planet Sub and the Chicken Parm, and both were quite tasty. The third time I went, however, my Chicken Parm was half cold. The bread was toasted, and one end of the sandwich filling was warm, but the other half was patchy warm/​cold and thoroughly unappetizing. I was willing to give the benefit of the doubt, and got the Chicken Parm again the next time I visited, but again, it was half cold. Subway’s Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki sandwiches are anything but ‘fresh’ and ‘healthy’, but at least the chicken is heated all the way through. Consider microwaving the meat before you put it in the sandwich; it would at least give the illusion of being freshly prepared.
Edit 3÷16÷16: I gave it another chance and this time pre-​empted the issue by talking to the cashier. She was very gracious in letting me know that they’d been having issues getting their ovens to heat consistently and were working on perfecting their hot sandwiches. This time, the Chicken Parm was evenly heated, gooey, and delicious.

The subs were dry, the sauces are odd, the chipotle sauce is odd with a strange aftertaste. The subs are huge but you won’t want to finish it. The loaded tots aren’t loaded at all. There are about 5 tots with actual cheese on them and out of all the sauces available, yogurt-​esque ranch and ketchup, you’ll choose the ketchup to drown your dried out tot in. They do have a lot of vegetarian choices and since vegans are used to mediocre options this may be a good stop for them. I wouldn’t recommend it, there are better sandwich options in town to enjoy.

Came in for a late lunch the other day. Their menu is extensive and I had no idea what to get. Everything on their menu sounded very delicious. The gal at the counter steered me in the right direction and told me her fave was The Experience (but SUBstituted with Buffalo Sauce instead of the Chipotle). The sub came out beautifully cooked (all subs come out hot btw) and looked impressive. I got the 12-​incher (the bigger the better, right?). The flavor of the meats mixed with the cheese was down right ridiculous (in a good way). The cheese was gooey. The Buffalo Sauce was heaven on the sub and wheat bread was very fresh. The décor of the place was minimalist yet modern with flat screens everywhere. Probably a good place to watch sports if you’re into that although I’d prefer to watch HGTV, personally.
I’m all about supporting local business in Deep Ellum. This place is great for a good sub! It’s on Commerce and there is free metered parking on the street until 6. It looks like they also use GrubHub and Favor as well as their own app for smart phones for ToGo orders. Stop supporting big business like Subway and support the «little guys.»

The basics are, I like this sub shop. I dropped by one random evening for a bite to eat. The girl working pointed out which subs were the most popular and shortly after, I made my choice. I used the 2 for 1 coupon. So I got 2 of their delicious subs for the price of one. It didn’t take long for the food to come out. Probably 3 – 4 minutes. Of course that was with out anyone ahead of me. One thing that I enjoyed compared to other sandwich shops was the TV’s. I had a choice of watching the Mavs game or just some other random show on one of their flat screens. As a sub lover, the bread was fresh and toasted.
They have a few local beers on tap. Nothing that is rare or unique, but they are the popular local brews.
I’m sure at lunch, this is a busy shop. However the evenings it’s much slower. So you probably will have to be a bit patient if you’re wanting seconds or a refill on your beer.
Parking: It’s Deep Ellum. so there is a shared parking lot next door. There is meter parking on the street. Or you can do like most of us do, which is walk over to relax.

The tea has gotten a lot better, and according to staff, this was a supplier problem.

Damn tasty fresh sub! I’m giving up on Jimmy Jonh’s now.
Stopped in tonight and ordered a ham and Swiss 6 inch to go. The girl working offered a cup for water while I waited. That was nice. She disappears and a few minutes later comes out with my sub. A few minutes later I’m home eating. I was surprised that the sub was warm and toasted.
There was really nothing outrageous to this sub. They just let the fresh ham, cheese, lettuce, tomato and mayo compliment their freshly made bread. And it works. All of it. I inhaled it.
Even though it’s a sandwich I didn’t feel all full and gross. I will definitely be back. I also have a BOGO coupon that the girl sent me home with so I’ll share. ;)

This was my first time here and I’m glad I popped in to try it out. It’s a little challenging finding parking but the sandwiches here are worth the extra walk. I had a green turkey sandwich which was filled with guacamole and lots of sprouts. You can tell once you bite into this sandwich that the ingredients are fresh. They are pretty generous with the meat too so that’s always a plus. Reasonably priced and a nice atmosphere make for a good quick lunch. I will be returning here. Good job!

Sandwiches are amazing. I have tried 3 different ones now and impressed every time. I just hope this place stays open, because I never see anyone inside while I am there at lunch time on weekdays…
Go try it out. Tell your friends. I need more good sandwich places in Dallas and don’t want this one to close doors.
Try the club. I really enjoyed it. Crisp, hot, fresh, and affordable.

Came in on a Saturday afternoon. Love the décor. Bread made in house daily. Tried the green turkey and mom had the pastrami. We were very pleased. Also tried the loaded tots. Lots of beer choices. Will definitely be back!

The best subs! Homemade bread made in-​house and some of the most creative combinations. So glad they are expanding and gave made it to Dallas. A long way from their beginnings in Lawrence, KS and the original Yellow Sub.
