Post Heights

I really wanted to like living at Post Heights, and for the first few months I did. It is absolutely a great location, and for me that was important. The pool area is nice (though on weekends it gets crowded with a typical uptown vibe). My apartment, which faced Ellis St. at first seemed nice enough, though priced high. I was new to Dallas and didn’t have much time so I took it.
The issues began a couple of months in when toilets began to not work properly, sinks backed up, and trees began to bang on windows. Granted Post did respond reasonably promptly at first to ‘fix’ these. The problem ended up being that it was always a short term fix. Within weeks the problems would be back and Post refused to address the main problem (replace the toilet, etc.).
Still manageable at this stage, right? Well, when summer hits and your A/​C unit stops working, then things get a little trickier. All in all, over the course of the summer I submitted no fewer than 7 A/​C related issues and not once did they do anything beside recharge the unit with Freon — which of course only worked for 2 weeks before it died again. Not only did this mean living in an uncomfortably hot apartment (think 88 degrees hot!), it also meant that my A/​C unit did not stop running, ever so energy bills were sky high! I compared with friends that live in the neighborhood and I was paying at time 100 $ more per month for my energy bills extra… Add on top of that that I am out of town on business about ¹⁄₃ of the month.

Wow — not sure where these reviews are coming from. This is the best apartment complex I have lived in.
First, it is extremely quiet, which contrasts nicely to the hustle and bustle of Uptown and nearby areas. It’s almost like the Upper East Side of Manhattan. I feel like it’s in a hidden pocket and is a nice place to retreat. I have never once heard a noise from neighbors. Second, maintenance and management are extremely responsive. On two occasions I requested minor repairs (shower head, light bulbs etc.) and maintenance arrived within the hour. Next, the place is an excellent shape– super clean, super modern amenities. Also, one of my favorite aspects is the rooftop. Gorgeous views of the city. The only negative I have is that we have had two reports of vehicle theft in the area, but I have not been affected and have felt extremely safe.
I think the value is the best in Uptown out of all the apartments I considered. It is a little pricey, but certainly not for the features of the apartment, the location, the rooftop, and management/​maintenance.

In summary: not a bad place to live but package theft is a problem and management does not care.
I moved to Dallas from NYC for a job and naturally had to live in Uptown. Post owns a ton of property here and I found a pretty decent studio on the 2^nd floor for 1035 $ a month, which is pretty decent for Uptown.
I really did not see anything wrong with the facilities here– I really liked how clean everything was and the courtyard, laundry, and garage were all well-​kept. I had no problem with anything, and maintenance was always pretty on time (although I didn’t really need any major repairs so I can’t speak for those). The only downside facilities-​wise is that during the winter the doors are really not well insulated, so I ended having to stuff old t-​shirts by the doors to keep the heat in.
Now my main gripe with the complex– they have an issue with package theft. Around the holidays, I ordered a gift card and some stationery (greeting cards/​envelopes) from Amazon. When I returned home, the box was slashed open and the gift card was gone but the stationery was still there. Luckily I talked to Amazon and they refunded me, but during the call they told me someone had already used them– so clearly they had been stolen. I talked to management and they said that the only thing they could do was send out an email to warn the residents, but that never happened. I put up a sign asking for deliveries to be sent to the office, and then started sending expensive packages to my address at work instead.
Cut to two months later– I decide to order a phone charger and deliver it to my apartment, thinking it would be cheap enough that nobody would steal it and that UPS would send it to the leasing office because of the sign I put up. Nope– tracking number showed that UPS did not give a crap and left it at my door anyway and it was gone by the time I got home from work. So basically unless you have another address to deliver to, forget about getting packages. Also, since the apartment complex is gated and there isn’t frequent foot traffic in and out of the gates, I highly suspect that it’s one of the maintenance people stealing the packages.

Well I know that someone who is angry with a complex is much more likely to write a review than a happy person. So I’ll write a middle of the road review.
My roommate and I honestly didn’t look very hard for an apartment. We knew we wanted to be in uptown, and Post Properties had been recommended to me by a friend. We were both living with family, however he was being charged rent, so we were in a bit of a rush to find an apartment. And Post Heights was the first one we looked at together.
Pros:
The apartment inside is top of the line. Granite countertops, tile, stainless steel appliances, garden tubs, and brand new carpet.
Great location, we walk to the mat for Wednesday night wings and beer a lot.
Never really had any issues with parking. Just don’t leave valuables in your car and you’ll be fine. I even had my car broken into, but there was nothing to steal. I’ve learned there’s crime wherever you go.
No issues with people in the hallway, or next door neighbors.
Maintenance requests were always done quick. Management office are nice people!
Cons:
We can literally hear every step our upstairs neighbor took. We always knew when he was home, and what he was doing (nightly work out routine). We had the courtesy officer go up there once, where it was temporarily toned down, but not for long. I understand that it is apartment living. But this was a bit over the top. Good thing he moved out this week.
The quality of the building is just bad. The ground is very hollow, and I’m sure it had something to do with why we could hear out upstairs neighbor so much. But again. Just apartment living, and it’s a midrise so the layers aren’t as thick as a high rise.
Windows are sealed poorly. Granted we live on the State St side. But any car, or person going by. You will hear it. Even if someone is having a conversation. You can hear every word.
Overall; I think we just got unlucky with our upstairs neighbor, as he was just very noisy and not very considerate. But hey, that’s why he got a top floor unit.
We probably won’t be renewing our lease, mainly because we want to live in a different part of uptown, and get a little bit more bang for our buck.

Lived here for 6 months in 2014 and loved it.
My rent was $ 1255 (definitely not cheap) for a 1 b/​b room on the third floor. Very spacious with fireplace, upgraded kitchen, and giant closet. The color scheme matched my furniture perfectly. Also loved my patio overlooking the courtyard fountain, just comfortable enough to fit two people and filled with nice trees. I spent many a lazy sunny days reading a book or drinking a beer here.
Pros:
–Absolutely THE BEST location walkable to 24h walmart, mckinney bars and food, vet, parks, starbucks, dry cleaners, and extremely easy to hop onto 75 or 114.
–Great GTL amenities — gym tan (pool) laundry.
–Fastest maintenence crew ever — fixed everything from A/​C, sink leak, bathtub clog. Sometimes responding to a request within 30 min.
–Front office staff are friendly, great at holding onto packages. They also have free quality chocolates.
–Trash chute makes life sooooo easy.
–Never felt unsafe in the area, even as a lonesome female walking at night.
–Frequent community events, twice monthly, with free food/​drinks and healthy attendence.
Cons:
–Poor air circulation which is a problem when cooking or if anything is smelly.
–Parking is fine for residents but can be a hassle when friends come over.
–Voices in the courtyard and car noises from the parking deck can be disturbing when trying to sleep. Usually not too bad though, since the fountain acts as white noise to drown most of it out.
–People who won’t pickup after their dogs shouldnt be raising them (yappy useless ones are the worst ugh).
–Neighbors have a Network Extender that may negatively impact your VZW signal if you have a x1 mobile device.
Best part:
I had to break my lease 6 months earlier due to a sudden job offer and was given three weeks notice. The staff was amazingly helpful in discussing options with me, walking me and the new tenant through the process of transferring a lease, and responsive to ensure all the paperwork was completed for a smooth transition — all well before my move. Kudos.
Would highly recommend for anyone looking for the Uptown experience. Post properties have a solid base in Dallas for a reason.

I’ve lived in Post Heights going on 3 years now, and highly reccomend it. The pricing is the lowest in Uptown (especially in State Thomas Historic District), they are very easy to work with even when it comes to rent negotiations. Staff is very helpful– when my eletric meter was crossed with my neighbor’s, they were instrumental in helping me discover the problem (my energy company was useless) which led to a very nice refund on my next energy bill. The property is always maintained well and they’ve just repainted the exterior. As a resident who likes to have lots of guests over, this property has the best guest parking situation hands down. No other property I’ve seen has such a nice setup, and being Uptown, parking is usually a nightmare if you don’t have access to a parking garage. That being said, car break ins do happen, but that goes for all of Uptown. I’ve personally never had a problem, but I try to be smart about it. I’ve had friends complain about thin walls depending on the unit, but my walls are so thick I can’t even get cell phone service (which would be my only complaint) so just keep that in mind. Also, they let you tour the actual unit you’d be living in if you come during the week, which is a bonus I was unable to find with other rental properties.

Absolutely the worst place i’ve ever lived. Unresponsive management, rude neighbors, tons of crime. Try Gables instead, or buy something — rates are so low.

If there was an option to provide no stars, I would select that option. I have lived here for a year and a half and have not had a good experience. Staff are friendly, but incompetent and unhelpful. Maintenance requests are handled in a timely manner, but issues are not fixed properly (four attemps, and 8 months later, a leak is still not fixed). Guests do not respect the property and allow their animals to defecate all over the property (there was literally a puddle of pee outside my elevator for two days. Feces are also common throughout the property, including in the inside walkways).
All in all. I would never recommend someone live here. For the quality of life here, the rent should be slashed in half, if not more. Not worth it at all.

Nice apartments… service requests are filled in a timely manner… you just have to get past the rental agents…

Terrible. High rents. Thin walls. The guy who rented me the apartment called me up to hook him up at my job. And when I needed to break my lease early for work, he told me he would be able to rent it within a couple of weeks no problem and I wouldn’t have to pay a lease breakage. He said they were trying to lease all the apartments quickly before they start renovations… shady!!! A month and a half later not only was it not rented but they had raised the rent by $ 200 and the guy would not even return my call. I ended up paying the lease breakage, which would have been fine if they had said that to start, but I am just glad to never live in a Post Property again!!!

I was helping a friend search for apartments and recommended that we take a look at a few of the Post properties in Uptown. Big mistake.
The woman in the office was a ditzy Uptown blonde with the attitude to match. After about five minutes of talking to her, my friend and I decided that her monthly rent would better be spent elsewhere and walked out to pursue better options.
Just goes to show you how much a poor first impression can hurt a company.
