I love popping into Short Stop for their pre-prepared casseroles. This time around, I got two medium-size casserole dishes: low fat chicken spaghetti and King Ranch chicken. Interestingly, I prefer their low fat chicken spaghetti to the full fat alternative. The spaghetti has a great homemade creaminess to it. Sometimes they tend to use too many mushrooms and artichoke hearts as fat free filler, but today’s casserole was perfect. The King Ranch chicken casserole has a nice southwestern flavor, and the crumbled corn chips on top add a nice crunch. I find that the large-size casserole tends to be a bit too runny. This problem is easily avoided by opting for the medium-size dish, which is actually the ideal portion size for two people anyway. Their casseroles are reasonably priced: $ 10 for a medium-size dish and $ 20 for large, which basically works out to $ 5 per person. My only complaint is that they’re closed on Sundays, which is when I usually think about going to Short Stop.

I just weighed my Hot One roast beef sub on my kitchen scale. South of 5−½ ounces including bun and dressing. We call this finger food where I’m from. At $ 7.50 this was a rip off.

Though Texas has some Southern flare to it, the state certainly doesn’t fall back on some true Southern staples that I so desire: pimento cheese and fried green tomatoes. There is, however, a resurgence of these classics within the fancier Southern institutions opening up. Deviled eggs are killing it in the restaurant world right now. One thing I will search far and wide for is Pimento cheese, a rather oddly orange-colored, processed cheese-type food. Normally, I’m all about the wholesome grub, such as a salsa with chunks or natural looking ingredients. Here, you can just see straightforward mayonnaise and various colors. And it is all the better for you having no earthly idea what resides inside of the spread. A little thicker than most, but a smidgen on the sweet side. As your typical stop and go, whatever you call it, Short Stop would satisfy even the pickiest munchers, what with the munchies ranging from sammiches over to pre-made dips and the like. Nothing fancy, but then again, if you are in this neck of the woods, you are probably just looking out for convenience.

Short Stop is a perfect option for family takeout. They have the BEST chicken salad, and their chicken and shrimp spring rolls and artichoke rice salad are delicious. Their casseroles are also great, and they’ll fill up your own personal casserole dishes if you want people to think you slaved away all day cooking. The only bad thing about Short Stop is that they close in the afternoon before I get off work. And while you can sit inside the restaurant and eat your meal, it’s really a better option to take it home or on a picnic.

I got a club salad to go. The vinaigrette dressing was WAY too sweet. The chicken on the salad was good… but there wasn’t much of it to warrant the $ 8.50 price. I would skip this place next time.

i agree with a couple of posters who question the value at this place. I ordered a ½ chicken salad sand with brocoli salad. While they tasted ok, i was very disappointed in the value, 7 bucks for a ½ of a «wonder bread» sized sandwich and a scoop of brocoli, i truly felt like the food was like a trip back in time to my school cafeteria, you know what I mean, just 2 pieces of bread with some meat in the middle, perhaps I did not order the right thing to be fair, but I do not go back to places where I feel I do not get a good value, there are dozens of other options within a 5 min drive, i guess if you can get people to pay high prices for average food, more power to you,

Short Stop is fast, fresh and easy. They have healthy lunch options like soup and sandwiches and lots of to-go things as well. You can have lunch and pick up some amazing king ranch casserole for dinner. They also have tasty little brownies, cookies, rice krispie treats and muffins. Perfect for me cause I am always craving something sweet!

I am super stoked to have finally made it here! located in snider plaza, it is conveniently located to some great shopping and awesome people watching. The place isn’t fancy at all, but the food was delicious. This is a place I can see myself going to quite often and am truly excited about returning! I ended up ordering the ½ sandwich & cup of soup. I got the lite tuna salad and the white chicken chili. I will definitely get this again. For dessert I ordered the chocolate covered oreo balls. they literally melt in your mouth! The price is very reasonable as well. So if you just want to go somewhere for a quick lunch and not spend alot of money, then i highly recommend this place.

Short Stop is basically the«to go meals» section of Central Market or Whole Foods, condensed into a convenient«stop in and pick up» storefront. They do offer sandwiches made to order, but as others have mentioned they are nothing to write home about. The real reason to visit is to stop in for a quick lunch — a good alternative to fast food. They have several fridge cases with salads(the lettuce kind, plus chicken, tuna, egg etc as well), casseroles and veggie dishes like broccoli and rice. I think the prices are very reasonable, today I bought a two-man beef stroganoff for $ 10, I think the family of 4 version was $ 18. It’s a similar concept of My Fit Foods, only(probably) significantly less fit. Which is fine by me — I prefer the home style meals and casseroles to the chicken breast over steamed veggies approach, but that’s also why I’m glad bikini season is over :)

Turkey sandwich was something I could easily make at home in 2 minutes, yet it was like $ 7. I can go to Potbelly’s and get a farrrrrrr superior sandwich, at a better price. Just out of principle i don’t go to restaurants that generate dishes I could easily replicate myself, this is part of the reason I never fully understood why in the world anybody goes to cafeteria style joints… but therein lies a whole diff topic.

I have been going to Short Stop(the Snider Plaza location) for about 5 years now. I always order the spring rolls. I crave them! They’re wrapped in rice paper with chicken, rice noodles, red bell peppers and shredded carrots. For dipping, you get peanut sauce and a spicy soy. My method is to dip in the spicy soy and then get a little bit of the peanut sauce too. =) Tip: they always run out of spring rolls by 12:30 or so. Sometimes I call it in to go and you’ll have better luck with that. You can order them at the counter or grab them in a to go container in the refrigerators. The tuna salad, mexican tuna salad, and chicken salad are great as well! You can get little cups of them, a scoop on salad, or on a sandwich. There are also lots of dinner dishes that you can take and just heat up at home. Think chicken spaghetti, king ranch chicken, lasagna, etc. They make appetizers you can call a big catering order in for, or take to go in smaller quantities as well. The sausage balls are my favorite! They’re sausage, cheese and some sort of breading(maybe Bisquick?). They have a bit of spice to them, but nothing intense. I served these at a party and everyone went nuts over them. The girls at the front counter are not very friendly. The owner isn’t very warm and friendly either, but I think she just has one of those dry personalities. She was helpful when I called in some large orders. Another tip: They have a «sale» refrigerator with frozen meals to go where you can get large portions for a small amount of money. At the Snider Plaza location, when you walk in it’s on the left hand side of the store. I know a lot of people have overlooked it and didn’t even know it was there! Not sure if the other location has this!

Short Stop has the BEST tuna salad ever. It’s moist but not swimming in mayonaise. I’ve been going here for 2 – 3 years now and it’s always consistent. The broccoli raisin salad with peanuts is unique and tasty. The portion is usually enough that I can have half for lunch and the other half for dinner… although sometimes I get greedy :). Although I haven’t tried anything else here, the place is always packed during the lunch hour and I’ve heard good reviews about their spring rolls as I was waiting in line. Be prepared: their front help isn’t ever outwardly friendly. I don’t think I’ve seen this one particular woman there ever smile.

In a hurry? Run in and grab a quick sandwich and/or soup for lunch. And, if you are too busy to prepare dinner, you can grab a premade casserole that just has to be put in the oven and served. The sandwiches are decent, but nothing spectacular. You do get your choice of breads and the honey wheat is my favorite. You also can get chips or carrots as a side to satisfy those watching their waists. The real reason to go to Short Stop is the gazpacho — tons of veggies and very fresh. However, they do seem to like themselves a little too much. The prices are too high to visit often. P. S. They also opened a shop at Forest and Preston if you are near that ‘hood.
