I was invited to Soleo by a co-worker, and as someone with a Mexican background, I’m picky about Mexican food. I must say the food and drinks were fantastic! The location has a very upscale/modern/contemporary look and feel, with ample seating, classy décor, and friendly staff with a huge bar and patio seating. Located on the northwest corner of NW Highway and Hillcrest, it’s readily accessible from all directions. The Mojitos were excellent with the right amount of mint/sugar ratio, and the Negra Modelo Michelada was oustanding. The«street» taco’s were full of flavor, and well served — accompanied by fresh chips and salsa, and the barbacoa questio dip will surely leave you coming back for more. Tacos«Al Pastor» were my pick as they’re as close as you can get to Tacos from the Distrito Federal! Friends were raving about the(beef) Enchiladas Verdes… a must pick for next time for me. I highly recommend this palce to anyone that is as picky about mexican food as I am. –Dave M.

Sadly things change, Soleo is now closed and I have also since become divorced. Life moves on. SOLEO had wonderful food, too bad the Park Cities snubbed this establishment.

Been here a few times now and I really like this place! Super affordable and really tasty. Not sure how long it will last though because I have never been here when it was busy. FOOD: Starts out solid with the complimentary chips and salsa. Chips are slightly thicker, salsa is smoky and fresh, and they also serve an addictive bean dip. It is tough to find a Mexican joint that serves creative and delicious vegetarian food. Both the vegetarian enchiladas and spinach/mushroom enchiladas are a nice take on vegetarian Mexican! Favorite item to date was the number 3 lunch special for $ 8 a chicken taco and chicken enchilada with rice and beans. Also nice that they have an a la carte option if you want to mix and match tacos and enchiladas. TIP: You can also order their tamales a la carte even though it is not on the menu.

And so continues my streak of middle of the road places and reviews. We headed to lunch at Soleo because we were in the mood for Mexican, the closest place to work is absolutely disgusting, and no one felt like Mico. For lunch, the restaurant was not very busy. They have those super thick, more authentic(and I say authentic b/c this style of chips are what I’ve been served in Mexico, meh) chips which I find harder to eat. I did really enjoy their warm salsa but found their bean dip too runny. My lunch combo consisted of a cheese enchilada and a tamale, which I asked for them to hold the meat sauce topping. The server informed me that it also topped the cheese enchilada which was nice for the notice, but would have been helpful to be told if there were other options. In my case, I just got a blank stare. Meat sauce it is. The masa of my tamale was dry, as was the chicken(?) inside. I long for the days at work that the tamale guy would stroll through hocking his homemade tamales. Anywho, maybe that’s why the meat sauce exists. Hides the flaws.(Just like your spanx.) Overall, I’d go for lunch again. It beats my other options and it was a relaxed lunch. I also hear they make a mean margarita, so maybe a hh visit would be in order.

This needs a third visit to maybe boost it a star. There are some amazing positives to this place! Their patio is huge and amply arranged to accommodate a few large groups and on a sunny day is absolutely perfect! It is also dog friendly. The Sunday brunch was really full of variety and the salmon salad tostadas were quite good if just a little too heavy on the mayo. The black bean dip is amazing bar none! Our second visit had us stopping in after giving up on a two hour wait somewhere else and coming here around 8:30 pm on a Thursday. The place was empty except one table in the bar. We decided to stay and ordered the fajitas and the grilled salmon. My salmon was over cooked and dry but the rice and condiments that came with it were out-of-this-world-good. The drinks were good but fell a bit flat on the house frozen margaritas and the sangria. I’d definitely eat here again with a group of friends for Sunday brunch! Bring on that black bean dip! Yummo!

Soleo has been on my list of places to check for awhile so I was thankful that on my first visit I was not disappointed. I went on a Sunday afternoon, the weather was great which mandated patio seating. They have a decent size patio which contains a TV(perfect for watching football). The complimentary chips and salsa(and a black bean dip) were amazing. On top of that they had $ 2 mimosas which were quite tasty. For my entrée I had a trio of breakfast tacos which were very flavorful. The server was attentive without overdoing it. I will definitely return perhaps during happy hour and/or dinner.

I gave it a try, and I won’t be back. The place was dead on a Saturday evening and despite that, service was just mediocre. The menu is typical tex-mex fare and the chips and salsa were just OK. I had a cup of the tortilla soup($ 3) which was lukewarm, and a chicken enchilada with tomatillo salsa($ 3), also lukewarm. Not sure how long this place will be in business…

Thanks for the great recommendation Reena! I went here when I had family in town staying near by. It was a hit. The fresh guacamole was great. The queso was good and had a little bit of heat. I had enchiladas a la carte and mixed it up a bit. I loved the pastor tacos that my boyfriend ordered. We ended with the flan which was creamy and delicious. The best part was the margaritas– muddled with fresh pineapple, jalapeño and cucumber! OMG. Just thinking about it makes me want one!

I have had a quest to find a decent margarita in Dallas for years… and stumbled onto a GOLDMINE in Soleo! Hands down the BEST margarita with their Soleorita. Their concept consists of using fresh ingredients results in being able to back up their claim of having the best margarita in town. The icing on the cake is their food is just as amazing as that drink. And this is personal to me because as my mother was born in Mexico so I grew up on the real stuff n know what real Mexican food tastes like. If u don’t stop by Soleo n try it out for urself u will be kicking urself later. I promise. U will not be sorry u did. Ask their mixologist, Sarah, to make the drink. She’s truly an artist. Ciao. Sorry for typos… mobile review.

New Tex-Mex place in the small business park at the corner of Hillcrest and NW Hwy. Street level is starting to fill up with a few good restaurants. Surface parking is a headache but a free parking garage is hidden below the building. The restaurant is open and spacious, and has never been crowded at lunch. The lunch menu is unique as it is fully prix fixe($ 8) but unlike many Tex-Mex places where it applies only to set combos, this is a rather respectable selection of items all for a single set price. Had one of the combo plates(enchiladas, one beef/one chicken) with beans and rice and a black bean salsa served along with traditional chips and a smokey house salsa. Food was very good, service was great, no lunch-rush crowds to fight(almost empty on a weekday). Not much to distinguish it from many other Tex-Mex places but the quality of food for the price is a steal. Might have to check out dinner to peek at a full menu.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Great for young kids and have good tex-mex and traditional food for them. Salsa and bean dip are good quality. I have been. Few times and the overall food quality has been good. Should compare this place to a Cantina Laredo vs an El Fenix. Will go back for good texmex in UP area.

I was excited to try this because I read about it on the Scoutmob app. If you are puzzled by that phrase, please google Scoutmob on your smartphone… Now for the review: We went on a Friday at 6:25pm. There was no wait and we were immediately seated. Our drink order was taken promptly and we received glowing warm chips with mild/medium salsa and warm black bean dip.(If you normally spring for mild salsa or mild anything, you will think its a ‘medium salsa’ here). The daily specials seem appealing and of a nice variety. I would come another day to experience a different special. The menu looks good, prices seem decent. I was torn between the Chile Relleno(because it had egg batter the way all chile relleno’s should) or the tacos paisa(because it had been mentioned twice on Unilocal). The waitress voted for the tacos, but I’m such a sucker for a good Chile Relleno with egg batter that I had to order that. The relleno was large and a nice serving, however, my guest and I both agreed: They skimp on the beans and rice. This is surprising in a few ways. Beans and rice are cheap to make, right? Why are you coating my plate with one layer of beans and 2 to 3 in diameter of a rice mound? I am perplexed. I fully understand that the focus is your entrée and not the sides, but the amount of the sides on the plate was very obvious. My guest’s serving of rice looked more sad than mine.(Don’t worry, I didn’t share my rice, I ate it all). The amount of rice and beans was also surprising considering the price of the entrée. Because of the«value» it made me think of the«around the corner El Fenix» and think comparitively. Beside the rice and bean amount, I would still go back and try something else. This place didn’t blow me away or wow me, but I am happy to try new places and I am thankful for Scoutmob for offering a deal.(BTW it was 50% off the check, $ 15 max discount, no alcohol included in the discount though).

Hate to give them 2 stars because the staff is great. I’ve been there a few times, each time the food is a bit worse. First the good; the chips and dip are good and the kids chicken tenders and kids cheese quesadilla are very good(the kids love them). The bad, the first time we went there my wife loved the tilapia, the next 3 times, the tilapia was salty to the point where it was close to inedible. This is including the last time where we begged them not to over salt the fish. I’ve tried the ribeye fajita and it was overly bland. The menu is somewhat limited. Its a shame because its so close and the kids do like their kids meals. We will probably be back but its not our first, second or third choice to eat anymore.

I had the Blackened Tilapia tacos(Tacos de Pescado) which were deliciosos! I have gone back again and tried some of their enchiladas(wish I could remember what they were called), and they were muy bueno! Everyone needs to truck over to this new local«heart of Mexico» restaurant and try it for yourself! I am happy to have a non-greasy choice for a change! The prices are quite exquisite too. It has been a while since I have been this excited about Mexican food.

I really wanted to like this place, but I think 3 stars is generous for our all around experience. It’s a nice place, kind of spartan ambiance, at least if you sit along the main wall between the bar area and the full dining room. Loved the black bean dip and and salsa was tasty also. It was an owner or manager who waited on us and she was very helpful, if a bit over the top in explaining the difference between Tex Mex and the way they do things. Like the gringas — it’s a quesadilla. Apparently, quesadilla’s are cheese only, whereas if there’s meat then it’s a gringa. After the description, somehow I expected it to taste better, or at least different. Unexciting. But I’m jumping ahead. She took our drink order and I had the skinny margarita. She told me it was very tart and for 25 extra calories, I could add the agave nectar. She was right — it was super tart and the agave nectar made it perfect. Didn’t cost extra, so why not just go ahead and add it. I had the Soleo sampler. Three tamales, two taquitos cut into four pieces and the gringas with beef, a small side of quacamole, sour cream and pico de gallo. Nothing special. Tamales were supposed to be a cheese poblano, chicken and pork. I either can’t tell the difference in chicken and pork or there were two chicken. Could not taste cheese or poblano in the third and they were pretty dry. The highlight of the meal was the pozole. When we asked about it, she offered a sample and after tasting, my husband ordered it. It was delicious and I had a few bites myself. Too bad it was lukewarm when they brought it out. It had lost so much heat, that he asked them to heat it up after eating about half of it. It took a while to get it back and then they told us they don’t use a microwave — they boiled it. So it had to be a fresh batch. They didn’t bring the extras out with it, chopped onion, lime and I think a little cilantro and maybe pico. She apologized — no problem. They never asked us if wanted another drink and we finished our first one after our quac appetizer and before our meal arrived. We had to flag them down for more salsa. The least liked part of the meal though was the chips, too hard

You must try Soleo! Reena D. was so kind to set up a UYE for us Dallas Unilocalers. Made props to Reena. You can find Soleo in a small shopping center on the corner of Hillcrest and Northwest Highway. First, you will love is ample free parking out front and underground parking. As you enter, the hostess is there to greet you. Soleo has a small bar and a TV so you can watch a game. The staff is really nice. Sarah, our server, was very attentive and friendly. She was able to answer any questions we had. First things first… drinks. I ordered the Margarita Swirl. Not sure what I was thinking because I was the driver. I’ve had them at other places and always fine driving home after two of them. Well, not at Soleo! You better have DD with you. Those two babies were strong like Popeye himself. Next time I’ll only have one. The swirl Margaritas are tasty and sneak up on you like a robber hiding in the dark. I had the queso which was delicious! You can order the queso with beef if you prefer. There chips were warm and so is the salsa. It’s tasty, fresh and you can taste all of the flavors. Yum! Yum! I had the Chicken Enchiladas Verdes! I was so glad I did. They were damn good! Give Soleo a try. You will be glad you did. I’m sure you will come back for more.

What an amazing Mexican restaurant that people need to come visit!!! They serve both fresh salsa and black bean dip. We started off with the barbacoa queso bc I wanted to see what that was about. Be careful though, they charge an extra $ 1.50 for a side of corn tortillas, but the queso was amazing. I ordered the skinny Margarita in which they squeeze fresh lime into the drink, amazing and strong!!! If you like street tacos, I recommend ordering the grilled pork tacos, the pork was made just right, and it was filled with flavor. And if you saved room, order the flan, it was great. The service was oN Par and the food came out quick. Check this place out! You won’t be disappointed!

Hidden gem YOU need to check out. Came here with a few of my Unilocalers. We were seated in the bar area. I loved the décor here as its very modern. The ambience is really nice. Cocktails: I ordered the skinny margarita. Ohh they don’t skimp on the tequila! The margarita was fantastic with fresh lime juice! Yay for NOTUSINGSWEETANDSOUR! :-) Some of my friends were raving about the Mojito! I’ll have to get this next time. Appetizers: We started off with the barboca queso dip with corn tortillas. The queso was so yummy. It was filled with flavor and didn’t taste like cheese whiz! FYI: They do charge you for corn tortillas. The salsa and bean dip they serve with chips were fantastic. The salsa is not too spicy and had a perfect blend of spices. Meal: I ordered A La Carte and got the Al Pastor(pork) street tacos. The meat was very tender and had a great blend of season to it. The cilantro and onions were really fresh as well. The salsa that came with the taco was a great compliment. A friend said the chicken tacos were really good. Dessert: We ended our meal with the flan and let’s just say you better order this. It was not eggy at all and had to be one of the best flans I’ve had. Service was on point. Sara(h?) was so sweet and suggested a few things off the menu for us. We were checked on quite a number of times which is really good as they pay attention to their customers. There was plenty of parking as there is an underground parking garage. Come check this place out! You’ll thank me later ;-)

This place is in a strip center just across NW Hwy on Hillcrest. It can be hard to find, but once you discover it, you will be back. The parking is the biggest headache since everything is reserved for all the little shops in the strip center. This a hidden gem for after walking around Northpark Mall in search of the latest Justin Beiber outfit! Lets talk about food. It is very authentic and full of flavor. The chips and salsa are wonderfully seasoned and fresh. I thought there was less grease and more flavor in my taco than a normal mexican restaurant. We actually had a couple of the house margaritas and they were not overpowering with the sweet syrup that usually accommodates house margaritas. They have a small bar area that looked pretty inviting as you can watch tv’s and enjoy an adult beverage. The service was great, the waitress was attentive and made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our dinner. We will be back!
