Sometimes doctors and those who act on their behalf can be indifferent, cold and even hostile to their patients. This is the case I will describe here, when we needed help the day before we departed for England on our 20th anniversary trip in late September. My wife had previously been treated for pain in her knee by Dr. Kyle Stuart at Sports Medicine Clinic of North Texas on Carroll, so she is not a new patient. Last April, she had an injection of cortisone, which helped quite a bit and her knee had not been bothering her much since then. That morning, during a walk, her knee began, once again, to give her a considerable amount of pain and she was worried that we might have to cancel our trip. She called me, I immediately drove to where she was waiting and we drove straight to Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Surgery on Carroll, arriving at 9:45 a.m. When we arrived, I explained(my wife asked me to do the talking) that my wife had previously seen Dr. Stuart for knee pain, that we and we are departing on a flight the next day and could she please have another cortisone injection. I was told first by Keisha that«we are not a walk-in clinic… you can’t just walk in and expect to see someone.» I explained that I knew that and that we considered this not only an emergency from our perspective, but that all we wanted was a repeat the the previous procedure… just an injection. Keisha came back to say that Dr. Stuart was too busy to see us and suggested that we either go to the emergency room(not a logical suggestion) or another walk-in clinic. I asked her to see if another doctor could see my wife at *any* time that day. Next, out walked Charlie Papaina, some kind of trouble shooter, who took the military approach to the defense of his doctors. No, absolutely not, we have no time. What would have been good, from a patient’s perspective, would be a willingness to help us get an appointment at another of the offices they proudly advertise(Carrollton, Frisco, North Dallas) or to suggest anything positive. But Charlie Papaina was one of the least sympathetic ears I’ve ever talked to. I can’t express how cold he appeared to be toward us and our predicament, there in the waiting room in front of other patients. This poor review is not aimed at Dr. Kyle Stuart, whom we were not able to see, but at the general system and aura of disregard, lack of compassion and, finally, borderline hostility that we experienced that morning in that office. My own doctor(I’ve had knee replacement surgery) is one of the excellent doctors at the respected Carrell Clinic, who represent the finest of patient care and compassion, but because of the restrictions of our HMO, my wife was unable to go there.

This place is great! Unfortunately, we had to make a return visit due to my kid’s sports injury. As soon as we showed up for our appt. they called us right in, we met with the cool dude who asks all the preliminary questions and then we met with Dr. Bonsell. You get the sense that they really care about their customers and they take good care of you. While we were there, they recommended an MRI to check for hidden damage and we didn’t have to get in our car and drive anywhere they have the MRI facility right there in their office which makes it very convenient. They also have a nice waiting room with the TV if you’re having to sit there and kill time –which makes it nice!
