Food is great, but priced too high. They need to offer better prices on their wine. $ 10 to $ 12 dollars for a glass wine is way too high for mediocre wine! No happy hour offered. They might look at Romain Cucina for some tips on their week night specials. They seem to have it figured out!

Best Sushi ever! Mark, the chef, has a dynamite smoked salmon he does himself. Sauces are top notch and he’s the coolest dude. If you are in Dallas and want sushi, this is your place.

Absolutely amazing! The lobster roll is outstanding! Mark, the owner and his family are super nice and will take care of you! For sure a must!

We have been to quite a few different places and found an amazing sushi chef Troy, and heard he moved over to sushi rock. So we made the trek over and we were not disappointed. Its a smaller restaurant but its very nice! The servers and all of the staff was extremely friendly and helpful, its a family run place and you can tell they take pride in what they do. The sushi was delicious and we will be back! Keep rocking sushi rock!

My new favorite sushi place in Dallas– what a gem and a family-​owned one at that. We sat at the bar with Chef Mark on a quiet Tuesday night and got amazing one-​on-​one service with chef sampling some of his proudest fish for us to experiment with and try. Chef got his stripes working in major Dallas hotels and Tei Tei and had a previous Sushi Rock or two for 12 years in Plano. He still caters to many hotels– an impressive feat for a small strip mall operation like this. Chef loves to talk to customers who want to learn and are willing to challenge their sushi prowess. He really knows his stuff– very selective on where his fish comes from– the waters and the vendors are equally important and his rice is spot on, a little sweet which was perfect for nigiri. Balance is his game. It felt like home. We can’t wait to go back!
Went back tonight and it’s simply the best sushi experience I’ve ever had. Go on a week night to get special time with Chef Mark and his family. What a treat it is!

Rocked my nephew’s world as I found this place before I had to fly out. This was the same restaurant he loved growing up but that had closed down their Plano connection years ago.
Three of us ordered a plethora of «cooked» selections (yes, I realize you sushi fanatics will claim heresy) and loved them all. The boys enjoyed interesting selections of beers. I was surprised to find an enjoyable glass of wine.
We watched a playoff basketball game and enjoyed the company. Not many seats. But the nearby residents have a great little neighborhood sushi bar.

I normally don’t write reviews but use Unilocal a lot while traveling. Sushii Rock is very good, friendly staff and Mark can make you just about anything, on the menu or off. The fresh smoked salmon is very good. I would try the stuffed jalapeño peppers just wow. Will be back again next time I’m in Dallas!

My friend wanted to go to Sushi Sake but I wanted something new and exciting!
Seeing how this was a fairly new place within a 10 miles radius of Sushi Sake that had really great reviews, I convinced him to go here and try with me instead: p
It was pretty empty our entire dining experience; got here around 6pm. But it was also one of those «thunderstorms-​hails-​end of earth in texas» days.
Our server was quick and friendly and helped answer some questions for us.
We got an order of the octopus roll, the «Sex on the Beach» roll that all the Unilocalers kept talking about, and the spicy tuna rainbow roll PLUS the specialty salmon nigiri (on the blackboard), the uni nigiri, and yellowtail nigiri.
(Yes, between 2 people, it was quite a large bill)
They were all absolutely amazing. You can def tell the difference between regular salmon and the specialty salmon in color, texture, and taste. Def should try !! The uni was smooth, creamy, and buttery as expected to be.
The rolls were all very good and filled/​surrounded by large cuts of fresh fish.
Overall, very impressed and (personally) I think I’d chose this over Sushi Sake any day.
They also play old school rock music which is super cool :)

The wakame salad was the best I’ve ever had. Unlike many others’ it was just lightly sweet and not cloyingly so. The flavor of the toasted sesames really shined. The sex on the beach roll was just absolutely delicious. I don’t care if cream cheese is «authentic» or not, this roll was perfection. The salmon was so fresh and velvety. I liked that the amount of cream cheese was just enough to add to the luxurious mouthfeel but not too much to overpower and detract. The hot tea was delicate and the perfect compliment to the meal. I look forward to going back and trying some non-​sushi items. We had good service and enjoyed the atmosphere.

Walking it in doesn’t seem like much, small and casual, but don’t let the interior fool you, sushi here is exceptionally impressive!
We had the chef (friendly gentleman!) surprise us with a 12 piece sushi platter, also tried the quail egg over eel sushi that we’ve came across on their Unilocal photos, and a few yakitori’s
Sushi was extremely fresh, originally we had craved for uni, but the chef advised us against it for it wasn’t a good batch of uni that day– which we greatly appreciate. The eel with quail egg was good, though seems the eel sauce flavor overwhelmed the taste of the eggs. Lastly for yakitori we ordered enoki mushroom and asparagus with bacon, both delicious and flavorful, also cooked just right.
I was overall impressed by this restaurant and the chef, one thing to notice is that they don’t list everything on their menus, seems like half the items shown on Unilocal were requested. Other than that, this place is a true hidden gem and we will be coming back :)

I wanted to love the food at Sushi Rock since I live nearby. But the many positive and «this is the best sushi in Dallas» Unilocal reviews were a huge letdown in both flavor, price, and experience. Spending $ 40+ on a very average meal was disappointing.
We ordered 5 items for dinner last night, and considered 2 «good/​ok, but not memorable», and the other 3 «big misses». The biggest overstatement from reviews was how authentic it was. After scanning the menu, it read like a standard, americanized sushi menu, which is fine with us, but the call out to authenticity confused us. The majority of their signature rolls and some maki rolls were either fish + cream cheese or a California roll + X. It left few inspired rolls, if that’s what you’re looking for.
Agedashi tofu $ 6 — Would not recommend.
While edible and not bad, it was our least favorite example of this appetizer from around town. This is the only place that serves it with medium firm to firm tofu, while most places serve it with beautifully smooth, soft tofu. The tofu should be the star, and at Sushi Rock, it was totally forgettable. If you want to try it, order it for about the same price at Sushi Robata, Sushi Sake, or Masami. All of those recommended places also have a more nuanced and flavorful broth served with the tofu, too.
Kara-​age (Japanese fried chicken bites) $ 6 — Would not recommend.
Again, we ate this, but it was the worst example of kara-​age we’ve had locally because each bite was super dry since every piece was made from breast meat. That plus serving it with a side of ketchup, which we’ve never seen before, threw away any ounce of «authenticity» the Unilocal community bragged about. The seasoning on the breading and «fry» was good, but the dryness of the meat lacked flavor. Kara-​age is typically made with dark meat, which is what makes it so juicy and flavorful. I promise it will make a dark meat convert out of white meat eaters! Order this dish for about the same price at Monta Ramen, Sushi Sake, Sushi Robata. Squeeze the bit of lemon served with this dish at those places, and you’ll wonder why fried chicken isn’t served with lemon more often.
Devil Roll $ 7 (baked salmon, scallion, hot yellow mustard, sesame seeds) — would not recommend.
We were hopeful for something exciting since every baked fish roll seen on menus are smothered with mayo and this one was not, so that’s why we decided to try it. But the baked salmon was very dry and the roll didn’t benefit from it. It would have been better if left raw. In this case, the roll actually needed something moist and creamy like a small amount of mayo or even cream cheese! The flavors were a bit one-​note, so I squeezed lemon over it.
Spicy Tuna Rainbow Roll $ 13 (spicy tuna roll with seasonal fish) — good/​average
This was one of the 2 items we liked from the meal, but is very standard fare. The fish on top was good, but the overall size of the roll was small.
Yellowtail sushi $ 5.5 — good/​average
We weren’t expecting anything new since this is a very basic thing, but it was good and didn’t disappoint like other items we tried.
To top it off, our dining experience was terrible. The tables are close set (1 ft apart), and we were seated next to a family with literally a screaming toddler going off every 4 minutes. Having a toddler ourselves, I don’t blame the family (can’t stay cooped up!). But the staff knew this and still seated us 1 ft apart from them, showing their lack of professionalism. The female staffer guiltily looked at me while seating us when he was screaming and said «good practice» since I am pregnant :/​We could not talk or think and it marred our meal. After paying, I let the staffer know to let that 2 top table go empty in the future if she knew that would be the case. I let her know we couldn’t talk. Again, she looked guilty and apologized.
Ordering 2 signature rolls and essentially 3 appetizers is usually enough food for us, but in the end, he was still hungry and I could have eaten a little more, too (in fact, we both did when we arrived at my parents’ house to pick up our daughter). That coupled with the mediocrity of the food and the $ 40+ price tag will not be bringing us back to Sushi Rock. I understand most of the reviewers love Mark and recommend sitting at the bar with him so he can create something innovative for you, but that wasn’t an option on a Friday night. I suggest Mark add some of those wonderfully authentic and special creations to the menu so everyone can have a chance to try it. If it seems like my review is based on fairly standard sushi fare, it’s because those were my options. We highly recommend Densetsu at Coit and Spring Creek for very innovative signature rolls without mainly resorting to Cali rolls or cream cheese. We don’t know how they do it, but the roll prices are comparable to Sushi Rock ($ 11 – 14), but very delicious and generous in the amount of fish given. Ordering a Jay’s Roll is like getting bonus pieces of salmon sashimi.

Sushi Rock was a fun place with great service and very average food. I came here tonight for the first time and was immediately taken in my the charm and intimacy of this place. It was a bit smaller than most sushi restaurants I go to and that added to its charm. True to their name, they have album covers on the wall and play rock music.
The service was great. We had a a great waiter who really made our visit enjoyable. He was attentative without being overbearing.
The food came and I wanted it to rock too, but it did not. It was not bad at all, it was just ok. The tempura appetizer was soggy without being greasy. To me though, tempura should have a nice light crisp to it.
The salmon sushi was melt in your mouth texture, but largely lacked flavor. The crawfish dynamite was pretty good, but the star of this night was the sex on the beach roll.
Not sure if I will return, as I have some other places I wnjoy a whole lot more, but it may be some others’ cup of tea, so I do say it was worth trying.

We went on a weeknight but the place was still packed. We ordered two sushi rolls, the teriyaki chicken, and the tempura. Coke comes in a can, but the tea is delicious and they keep your cup full! (They don’t have splenda, only sugar and sweet’n’low, heads up to tea drinkers!)
I would only give this place 3 stars based on the food, but the atmosphere and especially the service were 5 stars, so I compromised in the middle.
Each dark wooden table had a gorgeous fresh red rose. The entire place is dimly (romantically) lit with edison bulbs. There are no televisions and they play mostly romantic and/​or soft rock songs. They have an entire wall painted in chalk board behind the sushi bar detailing the beverage offerings. The place is intimate (small) with seating for 15 around the sushi bar and 7 tables which seat up to 6 each. There are no booths. Two walls are entirely windows so it was a bit chilly, but not uncomfortable.
The service — SO QUICK. Everything seemed to come to the table as i was completed by the kitchen or sushi chefs, so it wasn’t a streamlined meal but everything did come very fresh. There was only one waitress working the floor and most tables were occupied, but she was very attentive, friendly, and welcoming.
On to the food: The teriyaki chicken comes with a bowl of rice and a bed of sliced zucchini and yellow squash. The veg were weirdly cold, and the sauce was very thin and didn’t taste of much. The portion was gigantic. I would probably reorder it but hope they reduce the sauce more or something next time.
The tempura came with a strange, flavorless sauce which we at first mistook for some kind of soup broth? Weird. Again, portion was very generous. Still, aside from fresh veg (onion, zucchini, yellow squash, sweet potato) it didn’t taste of much so I wouldn’t reorder it.
The sushi was standard, not rolled well (not to be that person) and generally unremarkable but good for the price and location. I would reorder both items and be interested in trying new ones.
I’ll probably be back but only when a craving hits and I’m too lazy to drive very far.

Great sushi, great service! But, its’s quite small in there!
The service was warm and friendly, very relaxed. Our waiter made our boys chopstick «helpers» and took the time to interact with them.
Everything we had was excellent… Miso Soup, edename, Cali roll, Spicy Tuna, Spider Roll, Philly roll, and Tornado roll. The surprising dish was the one we ordered for the kids to spilt: Shrimp Teriyaki with veggies. It was sweet but not syrupy, and the adults kept sneaking bites of the zucchini. It was a nice surprise.
The only downfall was it is a small place, it was busy for a Saturday night and the tables were pretty close together.

I’ll admit it: I am a sushi snob. I grew up in a coastal city in Asia and I used to get upscale Japanese food at least twice a month with my family. I almost never order «american» sushi rolls (think california rolls, rainbow rolls, caterpillar, philadelphia… sorry, it’s just not my thing) That being said, it takes a lot to convince me to go get sushi in Dallas because I only order nigiri and sashimi.
My boyfriend and I were seated at the bar table facing Mark’s station, and that was the best meal we’ve ever eaten together. In a nutshell: talk to Mark if you can, you won’t be disappointed. Mark’s pairing of seafood and seasoning was just mind-​blowing. He knows his food very well and he is extremely creative — you can find very unique combos here. Think unagi with quail eggs, uni with citrus peel, akami tuna with just a hint of ginger and wasabi. Even the more standard nigiris like salmon and red snappers were top-​notch — fresh fish, thick clean cut, great rice.
Mark also caters to plenty of luxury hotels in town, so Sushi Rock is more like his experimental backyard. You also know the seafood will be the freshiest from here since there’s basically no retainment of seafood under his watch. If he doesn’t have something in stock, he tells you and suggests a replacement. it’s that simple.
There is a hidden dessert menu, make sure you ask your waiter if you still have room in your belly. As for us, the tamago was a great ending to a perfect meal.

This will probably become our go to sushi place. I was surprised on a Saturday night we were able to get in at 7:30. The place wasn’t packed, but it is relatively small. We had our waiter come serve us shortly after sitting down, and he was super helpful giving us some of the history and recommendations.
We went here with another couple and tried a bunch of the things. We all had a side salad which had the great ginger dressing you would expect. They have a bunch of drink options and my table mates liked the hot saki. We started with the aji special, which was great and beautifully presented. I love that they have specials, and quite a few. We started then with some yakatori, I love that they have some options in addition to appetizers, too few Japanese places offer this. We had bacon wrapped scallops and asparagus wrapped scallops, both with great flavor.
We then had our «main course» several rolls — spider roll, spicy tuna rainbow and another one I forgot the name that was eel and salmon, we also had octopus sushi. They were all great, fresh, beautiful and tasty. Their soy sauce is also very good, deeper in the flavor then a lot of places. One person at our table also got the chicken teriyaki, she said it was good and it was a huge portion.
It seems like you can’t go wrong here, cooked or raw, sashimi or rolls. Service was great, just wish they would have asked us if we wanted dessert before bringing the check, we probably would have ordered it. The price was also very reasonable for the quantity and quality. Also really like the casual vibe and its very approachable even for the sushi/​Japanese novice.

it’s easy to overlook this place, located in a half-​dead shopping center in sleepy Richardson and no flashy neon signs to draw busy traffic transiting along Campbell Rd. The restaurant is small but well laid out, with several tables to comfortably seat parties of 6 or so people, and a sushi bar that runs most of the length of the restaurant. It feels like a family affair, with most of the restaurant staff made up of friendly and welcoming family members.
I was in the mood for a lighter meal and stopped in for dinner, big mistake! I started with a few of the specials, some OMG-​fresh home smoked salmon sushi (highly recommended by the proprietor and sushi chef, Mark), followed with uni sushi and ankimo, so tasty! Now I suddenly had an appetite for more, so I ordered the ribeye mushroom yakitori, which was amazingly tender and flavorful. At this point, I couldn’t say «no» to a perfect serving of green tea ice cream for dessert. I’ll have to come back to try the rest of the menu which looked awesome too.

I thought the food was good, the service friendly, and the atmosphere nice. I had heard that it was widely loved when it was in Plano, so I had anticipated coming to try their reincarnation in Richardson.
I had ordered the sunflower roll and the hiyashi wakame (seaweed salad), and that was good, but I had also felt that it was pricey so I wasn’t quick to love the place as I had hoped — especially around 5:30 pm on a weekday (which usually is a good time for happy hour deals) and after leaving the place not full despite paying a $ 14 bill for one person, with no drink.
However, I do look forward to trying more of the menu, and perhaps another sushi and also their yakitori component of the menu, as well as any of their specials. I hope to update the review sometime soon.

A fun and friendly, NOT TO MENTION THE FRESHEST SUSHI IN DALLAS, family owned and operated Sushi Bar. They just reopened in Richardson at Coit and Campbell.
I went there fully confident I would get the same greatness I have always gotten at Sushi Rock, and they did not disappoint.
You’ll find Owner and Chef, Mark center stage slicing up some of the most delectable, mouth watering, beautiful creations you’ve ever seen… you almost don’t want to eat them, they’re so pretty!
*Hint! If you are new to sushi, ordering from the menu may be the best way to go. But if you are a pro, just tell Mark what you like and he’ll make something you’ll never forget:)
Warm and welcoming, this small sushi bar packs big flavor, big heart and tons of personality. By far my favorite sushi in Dallas.
