This is a fantastic venue that houses a lot of music. I’ve attended this bar mainly on nights where they hold dance music, and it’s been fantastic. The venue looks like a total dive bar with posters and memorabilia all over, which looks really badass. The bathrooms are kept clean and surprisingly look brand new. They have a massive outdoor patio with tons of benches and places to sit. The bartenders are pretty nice, and make great drinks. They have all been pretty friendly, and are quick as well. I’ve never seen an altercation there, and it gives off a great vibe. Take a look at what events are playing, but go check out the place whenever you get the time.

I’ve been here before to pick up college chicks on thursday and saturday but wasnt too impressed. A girl I met a concrete cowboy recommended I go there on Wednesday. I took her advice and Im glad I did!!! What a blast! No uptight superficial college girls, just regular cool rocker kids playing in a drum circle! Also awesome merchandise tables like you would see at a arts festival and to top it off… flame throwing performers and rope dancers. I have a whole new love for this place!

Never in a million years would I have thought I’d find myself groovin at a college bar on a Friday night but there I was surrounded by college kids wearing back packs and girls wearing shorts so short there wasn’t much left to the imagination. What happened to the days of spandex dresses? Anyhow, we were there to check out a local artist and had a fantastic time — despite the $ 20 cover charge. The place was very spacious and large with plenty of seating for the older folks. There’s also a large back yard patio area that was pretty popular and lots of people just chill in’. The bartendress was friendly and let us know that happy hour was ending at 10:00. I had to laugh because the places I normally go for HH end at 6:00! Good to go to this place accompanied by a date, otherwise you will stick out like a cougar on the prowl!(If you’re from my generation).

A nice dive bar to just hang out at. They don’t have any craft beers, just the usual and hard liquor. They have an awesome outdoor area which gets crazy on a Thursday night around 11!

If you are into total dive bars with a lot of SMU kids, this is your place. I’m not usually into these kinds of places but today was a beautiful day and me and my buddies had a blast. The SMU kids that hang out at this bar are not nearly as obnoxious as other bars on Greenville.

A divey bar to end all divey bars. Our bartender had a shirt with a zombified Mariyln-Monroe look-alike on it, and a quip of «ZILF.» I could hardly drink my gin and tonic, there was so much gin. My two friends scoffed at me, attempted to drink some, and pulled long faces. Together, the three of us managed to finish it off, but that was an intense G&T. They have bands come through, but there’s a cover.

ok… i know my age is not young anymore! lol my nephew-in-law was performing here… so of course we came out to support him! my niece text me beforehand letting me know… the oldest person there was like 25! i asked if they at least had a bar… she said yes… so on our way we went! parking is along the street or in front of nearby businesses that are closed for the evening! i don’t frequent the area… but i would still say walk in pairs b/c the streets are not well lit! we walk up… show id’s…walk in! the music was modern & on point… so that’s a plus! it’s a dark… dingy…olé school… run down club! don’t really know how to describe it… other than that! it’s a nice size… full bar… decent prices… i just have to get past that age thing… lawd help me! if my nephew performs here again… i’ll go back… as long as the bar is open! :-)

Drummers delight on Wednesday night! I don’t frequently grace the doors of this kind of establishment but a little research landed me here for a drum circle. I was working in Dallas and had my djembe with me, as always. After asking around the local music shops I was informed of the Wednesday night jam. The green elephant was alive with drum beats, small booths, unique beverages, and a fantastic vibe. Open seating out back with 30 – 40 instruments hammering out African beats! The bartenders were experienced and quick, the restrooms were pretty clean, the atmosphere was hippie, and the location wasn’t hard to find. Great times and my chops gotta serious workout!

AWESOME neighborhood bar. Total hole in the wall. I came here for a silent disco and had a blast! Drinks are cheap and the bar staff is friendly. There’s a long bar in the front area and a smaller one near the back. There’s a giant open area(dance floor) in front of the stage when you walk in so there is plenty of room to move around. They have an outdoor area to the back if you need to step out and get some air. The bathrooms aren’t the cleanest thing in the world but lets be honest, its a bar so you cant expect much. I will say, there are plenty of stalls so you’ll never have to wait long! My only complaint is parking. This area was definitely not built for large crowds to park. If going here I suggest cabbing it to avoid the stress of driving in circles looking for parking!

Green Elephant, much better known as Homebar(which it hasn’t been in very long time), is absolutely PACKED September-November, January-May on Thursdays. If you want to hit another night that is really going, you’ll need to check the SMU social calendar. Because, honestly, SMU kids are this bar’s bread and butter. «Homebar Thursdays» are a big deal. Any other day of the week is pretty much questionable on who will be there. Probably mostly empty and with a cover. I don’t think they even serve food here(? They could, I would never know). On Thursdays, there is usually a food truck outside. There is a HUGE amount of outdoor seating, and almost no indoor seating. There is a little shit stage, and sometimes they have local bands. The bathrooms are a disaster, and the whole place has a layer of gross on it. You don’t want to see the place with the lights on. Drinks are cheap enough(cheaper than Uptown, for sure). That being said, I’ve had some great times here. I wouldn’t recommend it, unless I knew for sure there would be a good crowd going.

WOW! I attended the VERYSAME party as the two reviews before me. NYE2012 at The Green Elephant simply rocked. The atmosphere of this little neighborhood bar is wonderful. I have always enjoyed my visits to The Green Elephant. Apparently the review that was given by «r.d.» was given either duress or made as a subversive attempt to stop the plans of the Promoters of said NYE party to be able to continue their events there. My suggestion, GO, party, enjoy. Peace and Carrots. Ed.

Went to the Norml MJ masquerade and unlike my fellow Unilocaler(who needs to type in complete English sentences and use spellcheck. dummy) had a good time. The bartenders did a good job and the drinks were appropriately priced. The final band the Effinays were great and the people watching was pretty hilarious. The back patio was great for music since it keep the volume at sub ringing ear levels. Not sure what the place is like on a usual Fri/Sat but its worth a look if a good band is playing.

Just performed here with Zetti Carnell on Saturday for their anniversary weekend. The inside is definitely a total DIVE but the bartenders and staff were VERY friendly, accomodating and the drinks were super and cheap! Nice cool air conditioning inside and a nice large backyard stage with fans, picnic tables and surprisingly good sound! I will definitely check out bands here in the future!

Oh, Green Elephant how you entice me into the late night scene. Every time I go is like the first time I go. From the fratastic backward-hat wearing dudes to the random solo bar-hoppers — there is something for everyone here. Expect a live(usually enjoyable) local band on the weekends, which usually requires a cover charge. But when you check out the large bar with decent prices, the cover charge doesn’t look so bad. The atmosphere is indescribable. It is probably best that you don’t see it in the daylight, but it’s big and can accommodate a fairly large crowd. The patio is just as large and fun! All in all, to say this place is chill is an understatement. It sells Pabst Blue Ribbon and its fun!

This seems like a bar I’d like a lot more if I had gone to SMU for undergrad — a place filled with students where you were more than likely to run into a dozen of your friends. Not being a part of that circle, however, left me sometimes feeling like an outsider walking into another person’s party. Still, for the times we’ve had organized events there, i.e., a friend’s band, Green Elephant is fantastic — laid-back, good drinks, and a great stage.

I really only find myself at the Green Elephant once a year when my friend’s band The Mumbles play for the toy drive at Christmas time. This is definitely a college bar and they are mostly not into the punk/new wave covers the band plays, but whatevs. I’m there to make sure I have a good time, not them. :) There’s not much to the bar, although it’s pretty spacious. Bar up front. Stage to the right. Pool table in the middle of the room near the back. A few chairs and tables, and a few couches. There’s a bar in the back and also a patio for the smokers. I’ve never been out to the patio so not sure what it’s like. I did notice they added about three more stalls to the ladies room and that’s always a bonus. Drinks are about average. I got a whiskey/ginger ale drink in a tiny plastic cup for $ 3.50. Overall never a bad time, but just because of location and the ton of cools bar I’d pass to get to this one, I’ll probably only be back around Christmas. PS — parking is a beyatch if you get there late.

Went there tonight for the first time since a friend of mine was hanging out there. Seemed liked a very chill & cool place. When I got there, they were doing an MC battle thing which was cool to watch. They have a huge smoking area in the back with benches to sit on which was nice. Drink prices were pretty good too!

Lemme start off by saying… I instantly fall in love with a place when my bar tab is 2 digits with a 1 leading. This has happened here a few times. I first went to The Green Elephant when it was Home Bar. I was underage so obviously I wasn’t that impressed having to babysit the drunkards in my party. It was packed wall to wall with SMU kiddos, most were cool most were whinny and annoying. None the less the bar seemed like my kinda place. Fast forward a few years. I’m legal. Yay! After I was able to enjoy a drink the place seemed a lot cooler, again packed with a bunch of SMU kids, still had a good time, especially with the dogs running around! I love dogs! My friend and I went a few months ago to meet our usual happy hour gang and we were the first ones there. The perks of being the ONLY ones in there you ask? Free beer. Free Music. Love. I went the other day to check out my friends band(Ugly Lion, check em out!) and it was really chill not to many people, great beer specials about 2.50 each. The bartender was really cool we chatted about the movie The Warriors and he couldn’t comprehend how my friend I knew about that movie since it came out when he was 13. Go during the week if you want to have good drink specials and be able to walk around without bumping into people left and right. It has a great stage area for bands, one of the better ones in a dallas dive bar thats for sure.

I was a meeting a high school here and I didn’t know anything about this place because I never knew it existed. The minute I walked inside I was thoroughly impressed with this bar! Even though it’s a dive bar it had a dance floor, good DJ, and cheap drinks. There is also pool table, dart boards, and a patio out back. I plan on going back very soon.
