The Petropolitan

I LOVE The Petropolitan! I stumbled upon them by accident and I’ve never thought of going anywhere else for pet boarding and grooming. The staff treats all the animals like their own. They are affordable and highly skilled. The owners are so warm and caring… we feel like family! CoCo feels right at home!

My favorite dog boarding and grooming place. I love that everyone at Petropolitan really seems to like my dogs and that I can bring them by without notice and they’ll take great care of them.

We took in Muscles for a much needed grooming session! I was pleasantly surprised by the price since I was expecting something extreme because of his breed and shedding season, but nope! It was definitely reasonable. He smelled really good and looked happy to see us when we picked him up. We will definitely be returning!

We have taken our pets to the downtown location for years and were just thrilled when we heard they were opening up this location in Oak Cliff! The Oak Cliff facility is amazing! You will not find a more loving group of people who are animal advocates and rescuers ²⁴⁄₇. AND I have never known anyone who can match personalities of their «day care» client doggies the way they do. Your doggies will have the best «play» time when you drop them off. LOVE these guys!

Love this place! I’ve taken all 3 of my cats in for grooming and they’ve done a great job at giving them lion-​cuts. Even my older cat who I thought was going to be difficult was a «perfect angel» and looked fabulous when I got her back. She was the longest haired of all the cats and was even getting matted hair, but Petropolitan took care of that and my cat was visibly happy and loving when I got her home. I’ve also boarded one cat there — she was great and I would even call to check on her and they’d give me detailed reports on how she was doing. I also have a dog who I’ve taken in for grooming — I was most concerned because he doesn’t do well with other animals but Petropolitan got him in and groomed with no incident. Everyone there has always been more than friendly and I am happy to have found them and their services.

I’m very impressed with this place. I have huge dogs who I can bathe and groom myself. I had heard good about the Pet’.
When one dog got bone cancer and was in his hospice (2 weeks of visitors and treats), my other dog, Finnegan, was feeling a little left out. So I scheduled him for a «spa» day. They picked him up, bathed and groomed him, and brought him home. He came back gorgeous and happy. Price was very reasonable.
But he was wearing 2 collars when he left. One when he came home. So I called. They found it right away, and I just asked them to hold on to it, and I would come by for it.
Maybe 30 minutes later, there was a knock on the door… they delivered the 2^nd collar back to me, which was awesome.
But what was MORE awesome was that my dog was thrilled to see Todd, the driver, and was ready to go back again. The same day. After a bath.
Pretty much says it all…
Since then, Finnegan continues to visit the pet for a bath and brush and grooming. After the loss of his friend, he has not been especially playful. I board dogs for Vacay, and he used to play with others, but apparently takes life more seriously now. However, when he is at the Petropolitan, he is «off duty» and will play, so this is wonderful.
Although I board dogs, I sometimes recommend the Pet’ to people whose dogs need socialization with humans, since I am only one person. The staff at the Petropolitan is friendly, well-​trained, and professional, and they interact with the dogs, so it is a good, safe place for shy dogs to learn people are good.
It’s also a good place for daycare, or for dogs who need close supervision. They are able to divide dogs up to play together by size, which is something I don’t do in my home, for example.
I’ll also note that they are a little different from some groomers.
Finnegan has issues about his nails. He’s a 150-​lb rescued Irish Wolfhound/​Great Pyrenees mix, and despite lots of work, I have to take him to the vet and have him sedated for the nail trim.
On the first visit, I mentioned this. And the question came back «Do you want him to look good or have fun?»
I wanted him to have fun. And he did. He also looked great. But the philosophy there is not to stress or push a dog (or cat). They let dogs take breaks and play. If a dog is going to freak out about having something done, they won’t force it and traumatize the dog. They are not going to rush. I appreciate that so much. Hair grows back, dogs learn, and I plan to have my dog for many years. So if over time, he becomes calmer about being groomed, great. I see him as a living being, not a piece of art that has to be perfect for people to look at… and the staff at Petropolitan understands that. THAT is really important to me, and if you agree, then give them a try.

This is an excellent place to take your cat for grooming, who all past groomers said was a darling and a treat to groom, if you want to end up sitting in the emergency vet all afternoon closing gaping wounds. If that weren’t bad enough, even had they not cut our cat in multiple locations including one enormous subcutaneous laceration, the haircut is terrible and removed the majority of his mane etc. They may be ok for dogs I’ve heard, bit DO NOT take your cat here. At least they directed is to a vet, but when you walk in to pick up your pet and the first thing they say is «we don’t think he will need stitches,» it’s not a great day. Would give negative stars if possible.

Absolutely love the Petropolitan! My GSD has a great time, and is always in such a great mood when I go to pick her up. Love the convenience of the new Oak Cliff location too!

Yesterday, I took my cat to this location for her first bath, and I couldn’t be happier. I used to think I should take my little girl to get a bath every 1 – 1.5 years so that I felt like a responsible «pet parent.» But the before-​and-​after? I’m taking her every 3 – 4 months. I’m so pleased with the result. I notice a huge difference, and I love it.
Quality of service and attention is outstanding. I can’t recommend them enough.

I can’t complain about this place, not one bit. Even after the debacle that led me to this location.
I have a twenty two pound cat who is long haired. Having that much hair overtake your world is a whip (think black tumbleweeds all over the house) and I like to get him all trimmed up in a high style kitty cut, the Lion Cut. With this cut, he got a big ol’ fluffy head and boots with da fur, and besides being handsome as hell he feels good too, I can tell. (Maybe.) In case you were wondering, why yes, it does take a bit of tranquilizing to actually shave a cat, and you have to time it just right so he’s all doped up right at the time to do it. I made an appointment with some silly girl on the phone and I showed up to my normal location, the Harwood spot, on time, with cat ACE’d promptly at 8:30. Then was told «oh we don’t cut cats at this location anymore». Uh, what, lady. We gots a problem. Come to find out they only do cats at the OC location now. So off to OC I went. They did kindly offer to drive him down there but I did it anyway.
Fast forward to 11:30am. They call. I’m expecting them to say Oz is ready (woot) but no, he hasn’t been started on because the ACE never took (whomp). So I drive from my downtown work location to OC again, so I can stick my finger down the throat of this big creature with sharp teeth and claws for the second time in 4 hours.
I ACE him, and this time it took. The dude in charge, Chris the owner, called me and giggled that he slept all through the trimming but now he’s wide awake and eager to go home. So off to the OC I went, again, the third time in 8 hours. He looked great and he’s strode around the apartment all proud ever since
They really do care about your pets and seem like genuinely nice people. I had a great time laughing about how cats are silly with Chris and how handsome my Ozzy is. If you’re in the area (or really, even if you aren’t), you gotta use these folk for your grooming/​pet daycare needs. They’re great.

The friendliest people. Took my 15 year old doggie there and he was not the least stressed out when I picked him up. Plus he looked so cute. Great place and people!
