Great venue. I saw swmrs, twin peaks, and wavves here. The venue is intimate yet spacious. There is no border which is great. The seats on the sides are nice as well.

Nice dive music venue has the feel of where bigger bands may come before they break out!

Came here to see Snarky Puppy and the way that they handled the line was ridiculous. Nothing was labeled or directional very well. Cool looking restaurant next door but didn’t enjoy due to the volume of people. Might come back. Just stood in line for two hours was awful.

How can I put this??? The bathrooms are really gross. Mgmt please consider a bathroom remodel/REPAIR. Low rating because of bathroom situation. Otherwise like most others say, decent place for standing room music venue.

This place is a joke. Horribly rude and mismanaged staff of employees. The bar was a mess and looked like they have trouble stocking it fully. There was trash on the shelves where bottles should be. The ladies room was a mess with no paper supplies, hand towels or tp. There is not a secure place for bands to keep gear. The sound guy brought his own equipment because what the club has is so run down. The sound guy was on his phone half the night and really did not have a handle on the audio problems that the bands were having. The sub woofer was blown out. The bar was understaffed for the amount of patrons, so empty bottles and plastic cups piled up around the room. Two staff members made it clear that they hated the music being booked for that night and that they really really didn’t want to be there at all. Unless some kind of amazing band is booked there(who tour with their own soundpeople and equipment), and it’s the only place they are performing in town, DONOTBOTHERWITHTHISPLACE. You deserve better as a paying customer.

Saw the band, everything i die, here the other day. First time to this venue. It’s a great place to see a band. There’s lots of space to roam and check out the band. Drinks are moderately priced too. The line can get crazy.

the bar itself is just ok but this venue is very run down small live band venue. If you know deep ellum area, then you probably know that many bars and live venues are like that so it may not come as a surprise to see and be uncomfortable about the small space and lack of sittings. slower drink service due to only 2 bartenders working behind at sometimes.

This venue straddles a very dangerous demarcation between«secret awesome music establishment» and«neighborhood dive» and they need to resolve this identity crisis soon and pick a side. The only drink service appears to be at the bar; if there are wait staff I’ve never seen them. The music acts that they book seldom disappoint, although the crowd that they attract can be irritating as all hell. There is no kitchen serving food, even though patrons will stay a lot longer at a bar that serves at least some sort of snacks or bar appetizers. The bartending staff have to have drinks described to them in great detail occasionally so they don’t seem to be very well trained. All in all I do enjoy attending shows here, but would like it if there were a better drink selection, wait staff, or even –gasp– food to offer.

My first time coming out to Prophet Bar. I was lucky to see Tawn Peron perform with what I am assuming is the house band on Wednesday nights there. That band is amazing! If I lived in Dallas I would frequent Prophet on Wednesdays. The music was excellent and the drinks were stiff! Just like I like them.

The address thing kind of threw me off a bit. We went to the back because that’s what the gps told us to do. but apparently the entrance is on the next street over. The guys at the bar we had actually went to were nice enough to walk us through the building since it was raining cats and dogs outside. Overall, I wasn’t too impressed with the venue. The sound was great but the bar was soooo packed, it took years to get a drink. The bartender even suggested getting a double since it takes longer. I agreed but for some reason, a double vodka cranberry is not double the price. It’s double and then some. Hmm. But whatever. The place is pretty small which is actually kind of a good thing that way you get a good view no matter where you are. It wasn’t bad, I guess just not my scene. It’ll have to be an absolute fave of mine to return here.

Address/entrances– this is the accurate address for the ACTUAL Prophet bar. However, a lot of the shows held here are located on the Main st entrance, which is for the Door whose actual name is the Door at Prophet bar(or something very very close). They’re connected via a hallway which also has the bathroom for both rooms. Parking– I use the same(small) lot I do for the Door. It’s right across the street(good latimer), with a 7⁄11 connected, and is $ 2 if you get there before 6pm and $ 5 after. If you do park there before six, you don’t need to worry about going to redo your parking pass/ticket because they won’t ticket you. HOWEVER, I have seen someone with a boot on their car, so do pay the $ 2 at least because they at least care about those 2 dollars. I also use this lot when I go to Trees, since it’s just around the block on Elm opposite direction of Prophet as well as way cheaper than Trees’ parking lot. There’s also more parking under the highway if you can’t get a spot in that lot, as well as metered parking along Elm if you want that option. Now for the real review– The Prophet bar is very small; it’s basically very long & narrow with the bar taking up one side and seating on the other wall and the main space in between. I went here for Bryce Avary’s christmas show, and it could not have been better. I was at the very front touching the stage for the sold-out show. I didn’t get a drink, but on the Door side of things, the drinks are decent enough, so I expect the same for the Prophet bar side. It’s a small, intimate venue with a 350 cap. The staff got us in quickly once it was time for doors, and the show ran on time according to the day sheet I got a peak at, ending around 11:15pm with bar running until midnight. Since it’s a normal bar too, they don’t just kick you out once the show is over unlike some venues I’ve experienced in other cities. Overall, this block has three of my favorite Dallas venues and some darn good food nearby(re: Twisted Root) to boot. It’s easy to get back to I-35 and the other major highways from here so don’t worry too much about getting lost.

Power Outage on the night we went(not the bar’s fault) but when it came back on there were only two bands left to play. One band got into a verbal argument with the sound guy(sound guy was a dick and thought just because he had a shitty beard that he was a sound god). Bartender apparently didn’t like something she heard because she kicked out the entire bar. Won’t be back. Unprofessional management, slow service and overall just a terrible place to spend your precious free time.

This place has a special place in my heart and has for a very long time. The room and history alone is worth seeing any local or national act. I’ve been in attendance since it was still The Gypsy Tea Room. Any and everyone has played here, its one of Dallas’ gems as far as venues. So. The room is long and narrow but there is still plenty of space to get close to the stage or if you’re there to just hang, there is a nice spot towards the back of the room. The sound has been upgraded in the last few years so pretty much at any place in the room you’re getting a great mix. The drinks are good old fashioned booze, so there’s not much to see here. If you’re a smoker, the outside is typically a great place to hang out as well. The staff are pretty laid back as expected for a venue. Always a great place to catch a show. If you are into live music, this is always my first choice.

First off… the address is incorrect. It’s located on the street over… I have no idea what street that is… maybe Main st. I’m not from there and we walked around to find it. Anyways, we went knocking on some doors that weren’t the Prophet bar… adventures always. When we finally did get to the correct locations, I was pleasantly surprised! This bar has a ton of character, clean, great art and lighting. All the employees were super nice and very informative. We were there to see an Ours show. The stage is in a great location… at the back end of the bar. Makes for access the bar and table and mingling area very easy. The drinks were fairly cheap, always a plus. The CON: their bathrooms are kinda icky… and down a hall way… I don’t know the area, but I would say, don’t venture there alone… GIRLCODE! I could see my friends and myself hanging out there if I lived in the neighborhood… or state…

Decent venue. It is a long, narrow space so it actually works pretty well for music. There are some tables and chairs along one side towards the entrance(away from the stage) and the bar is along the other side. We went immediately when the doors opened at 8,(bands at 9) so there was hardly anyone there which allowed us to get a table. However, the people standing in front of the stage will block your view if you are sitting. Acoustics are great as is the cool ambiance of the place. But of course we all know that these Deep Ellum venues are«made» by the people who go there. Very cool hipsters and music fans make it an always interesting people watch. Parking was not a problem. We got a space with a meter along the street but likely because we got there early enough.

Went for the Red Bull Sound Select event. The address says Elm St, but we used the entrance on Main St. I am not sure if that is typical. The space is open, and we had a great view of the performers, including Erykah Badu. There is a paid lot across the street which is convenient, and they have a kitchen. I need to check the calendar, but they mentioned the Wednesday night jam sessions which sound fun.

I always get confused whether I should be at the Prophet bar(on Elm) or the Door(on Main) since the two clubs share a website/show ticketing system, and sometimes I think they indicate Prophet when they really do mean Door. Anyway, the Prophet bar is the Elm Street sister to the Door. It’s a smaller venue, a bit bigger than Dada. The atmosphere is hipstery — the front is glass, but the venue itself is darkly painted and somewhat dimly lit. Drinks are good, and the wait staff did a good job the nights I’ve been here keeping up with the crowd. If you drive a car to deep ellum to see a show, pay to park, or drive to where there are no meters lest you will definitely get a ticket or worse, the boot!

The music alone makes Prophet Bar a legit Deep Ellum venue. If you happen to drop by mid-week, you may be lucky enough to jam out to Erykah Badu’s band or Dallas’ own: Ms. Badu herself! How cool is that? This bar is low-key, so don’t go expecting to find huge names here all the time. That’s precisely why it holds such charm. I usually find local bands that impress me with their new sounds and unfamilar styles. This review speaks mainly to the weekday visitor. It was not too packed, and I had no real problem getting a drink. I even sat down and made small talk with the bartenders. I know this is likely a different story during the weekend though. Anyways, living in Deep Ellum is a plus, because all I have to do is walk right on over. On the other hand, I can imagine that parking would be a bit of hassle if you happen to be driving.

Saw my favorite band of all time, Future Islands, here yesterday and had me a good time. There were surprisingly a lot of fans there and the atmosphere was electric. As for the venue, I’d been to The Door a bunch of times, but never The Prophet Bar. It’s a lot smaller than The Door, but has pretty much the same vibe. The staff was kinda rude/unprofessional, except for the bartenders, who were nice. But yeah, it’s an alright place to see your favorite small band. I might slightly prefer other venues, but I’d come back.

Great venue. The first I had been to since moving to Dallas at the beginning of Sept. The place is rad for a show, the acoustics are nice. I am now a fan of this spot… I have not had the chance to get drunk here, yet… but oh, I will.
