Sushi Bar exceeded my expectations — granted, they were somewhat low since it’s strip mall sushi and I only went because it was a LivingSocial deal(those can be so hit or miss). Service was extremely attentive and kind. They had hamachi(yellowtail) collar, so of course, I had to order it. Instead of serving the entire portion grilled, they served the most tender part of it as raw sashimi and grilled the remaining part of the collar. Definitely a new concept to me. The sashimi part was SO delicious, but they grilled the remaining part too much that it tasted dry. The rolls we ordered were not overbearing in ridiculous mayo sauces — you could taste the freshness of the fish. We also ordered a don katsu(panko crusted fried pork loin) which was fried perfectly. The only complaint is that the prices here were pretty steep, but the LivingSocial deal sorta overcame that.

Awesome sushi and excellent service. One of my favorite places for date night places.

I don’t know why this place got an overall 4 star rating! this place used to be inside the Clarion Hotel off 635 and 75 but I think it was named something else at the time. I remember going the first time and it was not memorable at all. If i knew it was the same one, I wouldn’t have gone. But the bf and I got a Groupon or Living Social(forget which one) deal for this place, so decided to try it. You know it might not be a good place if you read over the menu over and over and can’t seem to find something you like to eat! That was sort of the case here. so finally we did picked out some rolls and some sushi. They were OK at best. The sushi wasn’t the freshest in my opinion. If y’all want a better sushi place that’s nearby… try Sushi Robata! You know a Japanese place is good if Japanese people eat there(and that goes for pretty much any ethic restaurants!)

This place is great! The new location is nice, quaint place in a strip mall with a few TVs to watch a game. It’s BYOB as of end of May. Service is friendly and great. The sushi rocks! So amazing and fresh. I was recommended this place and boy did it live up! Good quality at a great price. The Ahi Tower was the best I have had. The Salmon sashimi was excellent. The Hawaiian roll was a standout and the Jalapeño roll didn’t disappoint. Overall I would say this place is great and worth a try if you are a sushi fan!

They moved to far North Dallas to much better venue! I will take pics on my next visit and post them on Unilocal. This is run by a Korean family and they are so nice. The restaurant is very clean and the food tastes great! The food is served with a beautiful presentation! They have a wide variety of Sushi that is very fresh and priced just right. The chef makes his own sauces for the sushi and they really complement the dishes. The fish is fresh. My favorite thing here is the Ahi Tuna Tower. They serve large pieces of Tuna that they mix in the spicy sauce when you order it. They don’t use scraps like some places do for their spicy tuna mix. They serve a higher quality of ginger — not the pink stuff. They have a wide variety of menu items for the non sushi lover as well. You should check it out — you won’t be disspointed!

I jumped on the bandwagon to try this secret foodie-deemed sushi haven… but I wasn’t swept off my feet! I LOVE hole-in-the-wall divey places, but this was different. When I eat sushi, of course I want good company and a good atmosphere. I don’t really care much for swanky surroundings or whatever, but I do want to feel comfortable… and I felt that this place constantly reminded you that yes, you are in a hotel lobby! The sushi was decent. I was expecting off-the-chart goodness since it took so long and we were the only table there. And also because everyone speaks so highly of it. The tuna tower was a little sloppy and almost toppled over before he put it down on the table to mix it. He mentioned that his dad invented the tuna tower… well then, it should be the best tuna tower EVER!!! No, not really. But it was good. The bill ended up being around $ 15 a person, which is pretty okay for sushi. But, in a Clarion? Meh. I just don’t think it deserves extra stars for serving surprisingly good sushi since it’s in a hotel or … since it holds a special place in your heart because the world hasn’t found out about it yet(you foodie, you). When it comes down to the sushi itself, it’s OK. You’ll be happy. But you could have gone somewhere else, too.

Like Michael, I heard about The Sushi Bar by word of mouth and found it to be a hidden gem. I had to practically bribe my friends to come with me and try it for themselves… it’s our new go-to spot for sushi! I’m a fan because the food really is amazing. I’ve tried so many sushi places all over Dallas and I can’t believe that this little restaurant inside the Clarion hotel is one of the best. The owner used to be the head chef for Blue Fish and started this restaurant as a «no risk» venture, hence the less than desirable location(I’m pretty sure that’s the story… it’s been awhile since I’ve heard it). Love: Ahi Tuna Tower, SMU roll, On the Border Roll, killer prices. It’s never crowded and they have a full bar. Don’t Love: the slow service. I usually get up from the table every time to ask the waitress to bring the check. She doesn’t seem to mind… it’s actually part of our routine now. No Dallas snobs here! But foodies will love this place.

Okay, so I was skeptical too when my friend told me about $ 1 sushi in the lobby of a hotel. I was thinking, «Oh no, this is going to be terrible.» Boy was I surprised! The dollar sushi is for pieces of nigiri, and the prices on the rolls are really reasonable too. More than just the cost benefit of a sushi place like this which is also at the intersection of two highways(635 and 75), is the fact that it’s GOOD. I really love sitting at the bar. The chefs talk to you and are really friendly and you get to watch them make your sushi. Yum yum! They have some really good rolls, I like their spicy tuna(my favorite roll ever) and this one with crab inside and eel on top. Very very good. So, even though it looks a little shady from the outside, and you feel weird watching people check in to the hotel… it’s totally worth it for the sushi!

I thought I’d finally check this place out since I live right across the street. I came by myself for lunch and since it was a sushi joint they had a nice bar for me to sit at. Sushi. Bar. Get it? The Sushi Bar was on the east side of inside the hotel’s main lobby. I was lured into ordering the lunch bento special since that’s what’s on the advertising banners outside. Of the different bento specials they have to offer I went with the tongatsu, or otherwise known as fried pork cutlet. The pork in the tongatsu was thin and very tender and the crispy breaded outside had a nice soft crunch to it. Gotta love that panko! The box also came with a fresh cold salad with a gingerish dressing, rice, four crab rolls, and three tempura battered egg rolls. Usually, at other places they tempura batter fish, shrimp, squid, and other veggies. The tempura battered egg rolls seemed to «beef up» the whole ensemble, but I personally think it kind of ruined it. On top of the egg roll wrappings, the batter made the whole thing just too bready. I was looking for something really light and crisp. In addition to the bento box, I also had some spicy tuna rolls. Spicy tuna rolls are what I get at every sushi joint. Theirs was pretty decent and had a nice kick to them. Dip it into your wasabi-soy sauce mix and it’s a double kick in the nose! My nose was runny for about the 5 minutes it took me to scarf down those babies. Aside from their lunch specials, they also have some other specials written on their chalkboards on their back wall. The ones that I might try next time are the Korean galbi and bulgogi. Also, I noticed that they have a happy hour and have $ 3 large saki and $ 2.50 beers. Can anyone say cheap sake bombs?

I, too, tried the ahi tuna tower. I took my first bite into the mixture of rice, avocado, fish eggs, crabmeat and spicy tuna, and must’ve got sucked into a rift in the space time continuum, because, within a matter of seconds, I looked down at my plate and the whole thing was gone. I know I must’ve eaten(nay – inhaled) it, because I was full, and that doesn’t happen easily, but it just disappeared too fast. INCREDIBLE dish. Beautiful and creative presentation. Fantastic waitstaff, and the sushi chef was so talented and majestic. I bowed to him and thanked him probably a dozen times to the point of awkwardness, but I couldn’t help it. He’s THAT good at what he does. Being inside the Clarion Hotel, the location of the restaurant is a bit strange, but, in this case, location ISN’T everything. The chef is. the wasabi AND the soy sauce. This food is so good, I almost didn’t wanna share my experience with you. I almost wanted to keep the place all to myself. Almost.

So I am sitting here sufficiently stuffed after our meal at The Sushi Bar in the Clarion Hotel. To start off, getting to this location is a little frightening considering it is adjacent to a hotel where normally a Dennys would be situated. This being said, once you get over that, the ambiance was nice and a little surprising. We were immediately served drinks and the waitress was very attentive to refill as the evening went on. On to the food… we started with edamame and fried shrimp tempura. The edamame were normal(I have had very few times where edamame were bad) and the shrimp tempura hit the spot(although it only contained three shrimps– and since there were four of us I drew the short straw and ended up with just vegetables). After reading other reviews we ordered the Ahi Tuna Tower, the Volcano Roll, the SMU roll, sweet shrimp with the fried heads and various pieces of sushi off of the dollar menu. The reviews of the tower are all correct. This was amazing however disheartening when they destroy the tower without even time for a picture. It was so good there were already claims of returning to just get the tower. The volcano roll was good but could have done with a little thicker sauce along with a little portion control. It should have been served with a spoon. The SMU roll was also good. The only really disappointing part of the evening was the sushi(then again what should you expect for $ 1 each piece). Compared to the flavor and presentation of everything else, the sushi was just lacking that oomph. The question was brought up about the improvement had it not been only one dollar. To end the evening we were give a complimentary green tea fried ice cream tower that was an amazing presentation. While my dessert taste is more along the lines of chocolate drizzled with chocolate in a bowl of chocolate, the green tea ice cream was a nice end to this meal. We also sat around and chatted for a while and the staff was very sure we were fully equipped with full drinks and even brought out orange slices after the ice cream had all melted. So while I won’t be giving up my usual sushi place I will definitely be heading back to The Sushi Bar when I am in the area.

I’ve dined here several times, and if you’re the only customer you get great service. Once it gets busy, expect 15 – 20 minutes between visits from the usually one waiter or waitress. The chef(s) behind the bar take great pride in their craft, and make yumminess out of the ingredients they are given. However, some of the $ 1 nigiri are a bit too played up. Some of the nigiri pieces were served with soy or scallions on top that overwhelmingly masked the taste of the fish. I wonder what they’re hiding?(White tuna in particular) The squid was exceptionally fresh, and I did enjoy a couple of those for a buck each. The spider roll is decent. There’s a specialty roll that has crab inside and spicy salmon on top — whatever it’s called it’s worth the money(it’s like 11 pieces) and my friends said it was good. I only had a piece after most the spicy chopped salmon was wiped off — I don’t like spicy. I think they’re closed all of Sunday, definitely on Sunday night. Parking is plentiful outside the hotel.

The Ahi Tuna Tower is my favorite at The Sushi Bar. The chef is very good and I always enjoyed the food there. Had a sashimi salad on Thursday night and the dressing was perfect! They are offering $ 1 sushi and you can definitely get a very good meal on a budget!

I work across the street(in Building 8 of the Park Central Business Complex, off of Merit Dr.) from The Sushi Bar at the Clarion Park Central Hotel, Dallas. I love the location, atmosphere and the staff are very on the ball and friendly. The dollar menu is not bad at all, and you can kill a 10 spot on 5 to 7 pieces of sushi(Albacore Tuna, Eel, Red Snapper and several other fish) and a glass of tea; without feeling like you wasted your money. The portions are good for those who want a light lunch, without leaving hungry. I also had the Ebi Ebi Roll, and they even custom made it spicy for me. I have also tried the SMU and the LBJ Rolls, all have their delicious merits. My wife had the Bintu Box I think it is called, and LOVEDIT! She is not a big Asian Cuisine Fan, but she wants to go back to this place again. Price is respectable, could go down a buck or two to make it more attractive on the regular menu items, but the food and service are unmatched in Asian Establishments I have visited which prepare like dishes. I am definitely spreading the word on this place. Hit it up for Lunch/Supper, and eat some real Sushi! A recent Dallas Morning News Story in the Food Section of the ‘Guide’ gives The Sushi Bar at the Clarion Park Central Hotel, 8102LBJ Freeway(@ Coit Rd) 3 out of 3 Stars, and damn well deserved!

This place is right across the street from where I used to live. The good thing is that they started having $ 1 sushi every night. The bad thing is you have to eat in their restaurant to get the discount. Too bad you can’t take it home with you. I’d order everyday then. They have a variety of rolls which I like. 2 stars off for the sushi rice though. Sometimes I feel like the presentation is a little messy and the rice isn’t sticky enough. When I pick up the roll to eat, the sushi rice fell apart and then the whole roll fell apart. Maybe it was just an isolated case.
