Tutta’s Pizza

Meh. First of all, let me say I was impressed by the fantastic sounding menu and the speed of service given that it was a packed Saturday at the Truck Yard… but my pizza was just flavorless and dry. For the price I paid for 2 tiny pizzas and 2 bottle waters ($ 32) I was expecting the pizza to blow me away. I couldn’t even finish it, it was so bland and dry.

Holy cow dogs! I went to Truck Yard for the first time and experienced Tutta’s and I would come back in a heartbeat from Cedar Hill again and again! I had the Durty Dough (Smoked & Pulled Pork, Chicken, & Brisket, Bacon, Chopped Serrano Peppers, 5 Cheese Blend & Tutta’s Signature BBQ Sauce) and it was fantastic. I wish I had gotten it as a calzone. The dough, the flavor, excellent, and the toppings were generous and tasty. We went on a Saturday night as a family, which was a mistake, but not in a food way. In Truck Yard they allow smoking and it was full, hot, and the smoke was nasty, so we got it to go… delicious away from the cigarette smoke (smoking kills y’know)

10.00 salad with 2 cherry mators and supposedly GROUND smoked brisket. Never again will Tuttas get my business. I should have paid attention and waited in the longer lines at the other trucks.

If you want great pizza, Tutta’s is where you’ll find it… and they’re working out of a food truck! Smoked meats, like brisket and pork, veggie options, they offer it all! My favorites are the Gorgy Pear (not a regular item, but when it’s on the menu you don’t want to pass it up) and those amazing Hot Sticks! Find Tutta’s, you won’t be disappointed.

I can never understand food truck prices. They always catch me by surprise, in a negative way. I spent $ 10 on a pizza here for a personal sized pizza that was barely able to fill me up. You spend $ 15 at gourmet pizza shops and get at least a medium. If the pizza was amazing and blew me away, that would be one thing, but what I got didn’t taste any better than what you could find in the grocery store freezer aisles. Ordered myself the ‘Hot Chick’ and was unimpressed. And I waited a good 30 minutes or so for my order to come out. Blah.

I love Tutta’s Pizza! Great food, great service, definitely a pizza worth remembering! I visited their cart at A-​kon (the animé convention) one year and was very impressed with what I had. Give these guys a try if you haven’t already.

I absolutely love Tuttas Pizza! Personal size pizza just freshly baked out of the oven in less than 10 minutes, can not get better than that. I have had tuttas several of times, Dirty dough is Scrumptious! Staff are genuinely friendly. I highly recommend Tuttas!!! If you are at Truck yard you have to try them! You will not regret it.

We’ve tried Tutta’s a few times and the pizza is always delicious! The longest I’ve had to wait for my pizza is 10 minutes. The staff is friendly and I think the price is right for the quality of food you get. You can tell that it is made to order by look and taste.
And now I’m craving their Hot Chick pizza… ;)

Tutta’s Pizza is fantastic. I love getting the «Dirty Dough» and would and have recommended to anyone I can. Reading the comments most of the «complaints» or issues have to do with how long it took to get their food (every restaurant can have this issue sometimes). While I am sure this was aggravating to them I have never had to wait longer than about 20 for my order even while it was at The Truck Yard and they were very busy.
If the Truck Yard wasn’t so far away from my house I would be a more frequent Tutta’s Pizza eater.

Are you kidding me.. The pizza is incredible. The Dirty Dough is the best way to go. We found them at The Truck Yard. Don’t miss out.

I came out to Truck Yard and I saw Tuttas and decided to give it a try. I had the Texan and it was so good! It was so different from the pizzas I usually get from other places. It’s hard to find good pizza around town so I am happy I found Tuttas! ALSO the staff was so friendly and fun to talk to! I will be back one day to try another one.

Total time waiting: 95 minutes.
When I got my pizza the guy working the truck blamed all the customers for not picking up pizzas as the reason for the delays. So, thanks guy. They never did page me, but if you get cranky they will fast track you 5 – 10 minutes I guess.
For what it’s worth, the pizza was fantastic. Just not worth the wait.

After months of suffering through icy cold temperatures (well, cold for Texas at least), we were finally treated to a warm, gorgeous Saturday. My wife and I took this opportunity to check out the food trucks in Dallas’ infamous Truck Yard.
Tutta’s has more on the menu than just run-​of-​the-​mill pepperoni pizza. Most places that serve a bbq chicken pizza think simply adding sauce to some grilled chicken is sufficient, but not Tutta’s. All of their barbecue pizzas sounded great, but I’m more of an equal-​opportunity carnivore. That’s where The Durty Dough pizza comes into play. This awesome pie comes topped with smoked and pulled pork, chicken, and brisket, bacon, chopped Serrano peppers, a five-​cheese blend, and Tutta’s signature bbq sauce.
I unboxed my order, and was amazed at what I found: big chunks of actual smoked meat. The chicken had some good smoke, and was much more tender than I expected. The brisket had less smoke than the chicken, but was still very tasty. I couldn’t pinpoint any smoke in the pulled pork, but it was very tender and had a decent flavor nonetheless. The Serrano peppers added just the right amount of heat without killing my taste buds. In addition to its obvious greatness, the bacon added a nice crunchy texture and some much-​needed salt. The barbecue sauce was tasty and slightly sweet, but what I most enjoyed was the lack thereof. I also thoroughly enjoyed the perfectly-​cooked crust: not too chewy, not too crisp.
Tutta’s Pizza offered up a surprisingly flavorful twist on traditional barbecue. The inebriated crowds at the Truck Yard were a little difficult to navigate, but it was definitely worth it.

Blah. I was unimpressed. Crust was mediocre, cheese pretty generic, sauce used way too much cheap oregano. What I would expect to pay $ 4 from Sbarro for a small personal pizza… not $ 8.

Tutta’s Food Truck paid a visit to my office as part of our «Food Truck Thursdays», and I must admit was one of the better Food Trucks I’ve had. I was expecting a crust that would have a previously frozen taste… But, in this case, it tasted fresh; and had I not wanted to brave the sub-​freezing temperatures, I would have gone outside to order another for dinner later…
I had the «Smokey Pig», which came with a large amount of Pulled Pork (big pieces), some bacon, a 5-​Cheese blend, and BBQ-​Sauce. It was delicious. Even being an 8″ pie, I had a hard time finishing the entire pie with a half-​order of hot sticks.
Their «Hot Sticks» look like a smaller flat bread pizza cut into strips– and was delicious. It could also be used as a meal itself. I actually offered some to a co-​worker which helped to entice her to go out and order it and some of their pizza.
I’ve seen this truck before around town, and if I see them again, I may be inclined to partake again!

Nom nom nom! the fact that it came out of a truck I’m still amazed. all I had was a pepperoni pizza with extra cheese, by the way they did not charge me for extra cheese:), and the pizza was absolutely amazing. the thing that made it amazing was there for extra garlic herb that they put towards the end of the crust where the pizza me to the crust. OMG. this pizza truck is definitely worth going to! I wish they had it in downtown Austin!

It’s fast foodish pizza. This review is based on that. Great concept. Great gluten free crust! Thank you!
My days of gourmet pizza (and I’ve made it my mission to find the best pizza in cities in the US and abroad) ended tragically with a celiac diagnosis in January. Gluten free pizzas out have been nasty. This one is good!
The only thing is it is very, very awkward testing your pizza. It’s not done when you pay, but you do have to pick it up yourself right before the area where you pay. So now there is someone else trying to pay but you have to move to the other side of them for pickup. But is your pizza even ready? Awkward. They should give you a number and bring it to your table.

So here’s the deal. Not too long ago, I had my first trip to Tutta’s. As the two stars suggest, I’d simply had better pizza in the area. To my surprise, Tutta’s not only noticed my review, but turned the whole experience into a promotion! I’ve got to give Tutta’s where credit is due. Not only do they listen to their customers, but they actively keep their ears to the ground in search of constructive feedback. How could I not go back and give them another shot?
Star 1: How was the service and atmosphere?
As I mentioned in my previous review, Tutta’s absolutely nails it when it comes to service. Food Truck customers need to have a friendly atmosphere actively presented to them since it’s not necessarily something that they can experience like they can do within a brick and mortar store. Tutta’s honestly has this system perfected, and you can be sure you’ll be greeted by a friendly, knowledgable face who will have your pizza out to you in 8 minutes absolute tops. Star Granted.
Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost?
If you read my previous review, it’s obvious that I took issue with a pricetag of $ 10 slapped onto an 8″ personal pizza. To be honest? I still kind of do. Pizza is cheap. It’s always been cheap, and when I look at what $ 10 (yes, including tax) is getting me here, I’m seeing dough, barbecue sauce, cheese, a bit of bacon, some brisket, and overhead. Plain and simple? It’s not quite enough in this foodie’s humble opinion. $ 8 for an 8″ personal brisket pizza? Brilliant, but it’s double digits that gets me down especially when nearby food trucks are offering comparable quantities and quality for under $ 10. No Star Granted.
Stars 3 and 4: How was the food?
Good, as I mentioned in my previous review, but still short of greatness, and I think I now understand why. You know what’s awesome about pizza? It really doesn’t even need any toppings. Bread, sauce, cheese. Bingo. However, one of the key components there is the sauce. It’s what distinguishes pizza from cheesy breadsticks yeah? Now, what Tutta’s has done with their smoked meat pizzas is replaced the pizza sauce with barbecue sauce, and it simply doesn’t cut it. There’s not enough contrast among the flavors that is often brought on by marinara sauce, and I still kind of felt as though I was eating cheesy breadsticks with some (under seasoned) meat on top. Good, but not mind-​blowing. Single Star Granted.
Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could?
Tutta’s Pizza isn’t my favorite in Dallas, but I’m so blown away by this truck’s attention to detail, active pursuit of feedback and unmatched level of service that I would gladly stop by daily just to hang out with these guys. I’ll be back for sure to give the cheese and pepperoni a try, and if you’ve never been to Tutta’s, you need to go. Star Granted.

I’ve now sampled two of their pizza creations: chicken and veggie. The pizza itself comes out super fast, way faster than you can get a slice even at any of the local shops. For that reason, and the convenience of location to my favorite watering hole, I’m happy to pay $ 8 – 10 for a single person pizza. IMHO the veggie pizza was better than the chicken. It has artichoke hearts and for some reason that made it extra delicious to my midnight stomach. They also do sandwiches based on the same pizza options but the portion size is smaller. Usually when one approaches a food truck lat night, size is important, so if that’s you just get the pizza, you’ll be happier. Crust is standard slightly chewy medium thick ny style (akin to that found at zinis and mama Mia).

I only heard about Tutta’s through the enthusiasm of Kaia V, who lives dangerously close to the Doublewide, and subsequently lives too dangerously close to Tutta’s Pizza food truck, which is parked there on Saturday nights.
I must say, I am a skeptic when it comes to what I think is an unsustainable concept for the food truck business (think sushi, and well, hand made and made to order pizzas) But I love food truck culture, so I figured I would give this a try. Plus it was 1 am. My hunger scale is all out of whack.
First of all, the guys who ran the truck were very nice and seemed quite excited to be working out of a truck at 1 am on a Saturday night, serving obnoxious bar goers. The pizzas they had on their menu were interesting. They had a spicy chicken, a mediterrean, a pulled pork, a brisket, a cheese and a jazzed up calabrese (which is really good pepperoni). I got the calabrese personal pizza, which is an 8 inch pizza, and will cost you $ 10. Boo to the price! I think that is too high of a price for an 8 inch personal pizza, and too high of a price for a food truck. But I understand that all of their ingredients are top of the line, and the dough is handmade daily. On the taste of the pizza, you can certainly figure out quick that the ingredients are very high end. I found the crust to be a little too chewy and dry for my liking, and the cheese to be lacking. Otherwise, the calabrese was fine. My friend loves their pizzas, but I just found it to be average.
I was quite surprised and impressed by how fast I got my pizza from when I ordered it to when they brought it out of the oven. There’s a mini oven on the truck, they assemble the toppings on the spot, throw it in, and it comes out steaming hot in no more than 10 minutes. Very impressive.
Also, their website is nicely managed. They update their blog frequently, and have tabs for you to see their schedule, their offerings, how to stay in touch, read their blog, etc. I can just feel that these guys love what they do and love to share it. So I’m surprised this place hasn’t been reviewed yet! Hope this will spread the word a little! Best of luck to this pizza truck… I know one friend who is very happy that they are now a regular in her neighborhood!
