Urban Paws

So I had initially written a strongly worded review of Urban Paws based on my experience from boarding my dog Maverick with them in August. I praised the people who work there for being very helpful and attentive. A woman who worked there even came out to my car when I pulled up and helped me gather Maverick’s things to bring inside. When I came to pick Maverick up after 3 days, I looked through the clear glass window into the doggy play room and saw him sitting in a corner by himself, looking frightened. I said this in my initial review. It wasn’t anything major, just a split second observation that made me question Maverick’s stay.
Within minutes the owner of Urban Paws called me about it. She was so kind. She assured me that Maverick had a fantastic time and got along fine with all of the dogs. He was probably just worn out that day. Plus, it was his first time ever being boarded. The point I am trying to make is, the owner took the time out of her day to call me and assuage my fears even though I had boarded my dog more than 6 months back. I really do feel Urban Paws is a safe and great place to board your dog. The people who work there are top notch and care. The fact that the owner herself reached out to me about Maverick speaks volumes. She really cares about her business and assuring all of her customers that their dogs are well taken care of. I would board my dog here again.

I love this place and so does my pup, Lily! Any time we need to board her this is our first and only option. They are such kind people and really love our pup. Very grateful for you Urban Paws! You guys are awesome!

I was so thankful to find Urban Paws before moving to HOU. While living in DAL I boarded my dog a few times there and was extremely happy with the excellent care given to her. My dog is a Chihuahua who is shy and timid so I was worried about her mixing and mingling with larger or hyper dogs. The caretakers took notice of my concerns and worked with her. I was so pleased with the care given to her then that now that I live in HOU and have to travel out of the country I take her to Urban Paws in DAL just so I can have piece of mind that she will be lovingly looked after. On my way to pick her up now. Can’t wait to see her smiling face.

The team at Urban Paws, especially the manager, Elaine, is amazing with my dogs. I know they take excellent care of them because my (sometimes moody and anti-​social) dogs can’t wait to get out of the car each time I take them to stay at Urban Paws and everyone knows them by name. Highly recommend and won’t take my boys anywhere else!

My dog couldn’t get out of the car fast enough — he LOVED this place!
He spent all day playing, and swimming and being social — was exhausted when he came home, and that’s what I wanted.
He seemed happy with the staff, and the «valet» option is cool. made me feel lazy but nice to have it

Quick and great service! Dropped my doggie off at 9 picked him up at 11. Usually groomers take all day. I have a very nervous dog so the fact that they cut him well and quick was a huge plus for us. His cut looks great

While my mom was hospitalized in Dallas I found this groomer. I have a service dog so it is imperative that I maintain an excellent level of cleanliness. The first time I took her I was so pleased. She looked good and she seemed to have fun. Because I have to stay in the hospital with her, and basically live here, after two weeks I took her back today and asked for them to just bath and dry and brush. After an hour I went to get her, I paid and I left. I had to go to Walmart and when I got her out to put her service vest on I noticed her tail was bloody. I tried to call, got no one, called again got the owner and I asked her about it. She apologized and told me that her tech used a dremel on my dogs nails, it got caught in the hair on her tail and ripped hair out causing the wound. The tech never told anyone. I had noticed she was limping too, so I took a closer look at her nails. They were cut to the quick. I rely on my dog for assistance every day. Now I am 3 hours from my vet, with a dog who is in pain and is having pain just walking.
I am horrified that they used that tool on her feet. I realize it is commonly used however my dog is very sensitive. It will take a long time for her to trust anyone with her feet again. I am horrified that she was so scared about it that her tail was that close to her feet. I am heart broken that my dog was traumatized like that today. I will never put her through that again. I never asked for her nails to be done. Knowing her feet hurt after and knowing we have to walk a lot while staying here to go outside so she can potty I would have declined.
What I think would have made this a five star review would have been if they had asked me if I wanted her nails done, and had I said yes and she got hurt, then that the tech would have just told me up front rather than let me find it for myself. She was very clean but I am an over protective mom.

We really enjoyed bringing our Italian greyhound to this place. It was a very convenient location and their hours fit our work schedule. Since it was hard to find a Designated small dog park we decided to give Urban Paws a try! We will miss this place so much. I could take Langston for a whole or half day if I needed to get work done after school or just for evening play if I needed to run errands. He was always so excited to go play there and would come home from a day of playing that he would just cuddle on the couch afterwards. The people who work here were so nice and really looked after him! We moved away and this is one of the places we will miss the most in Dallas!
One last thing, please sell a half day package — that would be perfect.

This is my dogs’ primary day camp and boarding place! My oldest has been coming here for about a year and a half, and my little one for a few months. I am a total helicopter parent when it comes to my pups, so I spent hours researching different doggy daycamps before choosing Urban Paws. Here are the things that we like about this place:
BOARDING
As far as I am concerned, this is the best part of Urban Paws!
The dogs are not kept in cages, but in «townhomes,» which are basically second-​floor rooms with outside-​facing windows. They have raised beds. There is plenty of room if your dog wants to bring his toys, bedding, chew toys, HDTV, Nintendo, etc. (Just kidding– my dogs don’t have their own television sets or video games, but if they asked me for them I’d probably agree. I have a serious soft spot for these pups). My dogs are housed together, at a discount for the second dog, and they are very comfortable.
They have the option of playing with all the daycamp doggies during the day, and returning to the townhomes for «nap time.» Even if you opt out of playtime during the day, they will be taken outside four times for 15 – 30 minutes each time, which is a lot of interaction compared to other boarding facilities.
The folks at Urban Paws are very accommodating for different doggy needs. At one point, my little one was on medication, but we had to board him. I walked in with him, two overnight bags, and a list-​long single-​spaced instruction sheet. They were really patient and walked through the sheet with me.
DAYCAMP
I used to take my oldest here 3 – 4 times every week, so she was quite a regular. (I cut back because I have two dogs now, and they keep each other company). Everyone knew her name!
Urban Paws has over 10,000 square feet of play areas for the dogs, sorted between small, medium, and large dogs. All play areas are constantly supervised and cleaned. This facility is one of the cleanest doggy daycares I have ever seen!
In order to keep the dogs from getting bored, they rotate play areas between indoors and outdoors every few hours.
They have pretty good hours (7am-​7pm) on weekdays, which is appreciated. I’ve picked up my dog a little late a few times, and they were really nice about that, too. They also provide «valet» service, so during drop-​off, they come and take the dogs from your car. It’s really convenient!
The best part is that after a full day at Urban Paws, my pups are always so tired and happy that they sleep on the car-​ride home.
OTHER FACTORS
The folks at Urban Paws really get along with the animals, and they care a lot. The owner of Urban Paws has a good relationship with the vets at Katy Trail Animal Hospital (where I take my dogs) so that’s a plus.
They also upload photos of daycare days pretty regularly onto their Facebook page. It’s really fun to look through them and look for your dog.
Some of the other reviews have mentioned dogs coming home dirty. I haven’t had too much of a problem with this– at least not any more so than with other boarding places. If I leave them there too long, they will smell like dogs when they get home, in which case, they get the pleasure of being bathed in my sink. As a side note, they do laundry at Urban Paws– they’ll clean my dogs’ beds and blankets before returning them.

This Cosmo’s home away from home!!! Loving people. Love that the kids are not in kennels; all in individual rooms for boarding. Great communication, and completely full service. ;) BADASSES!

My dog Maverick loved it here. He would nearly trample me over in the car just to get thru the front doors. The staff was great about coming to your car and taking him from me without me going inside (big plus since I had a baby in the back). The staff was really great with him and would always remember his name. He always came home tired from all the playing he did. During hot days he would come to the car wet from playing in the pool all day. Unfortunately I had to stop bringing him there bc he got giardia (I’m sure from being or drinking in the kiddy pool). I know it’s not the staffs job on taking my dog out of the water which may or may not be infected with giardia. It can happen to any dog day care. It just sucks it happened bc he really liked that place and I don’t want to risk him getting giardia again so we have hired a dog walker to come to te house instead.

I cannot recommend this place enough! We take our Siberian Husky/​Lab mix fur baby here twice a week for daycare to play all day and boarded him for a few nights when we had to go out of town a few weeks ago. They have both outdoor and indoor yards for the dogs to play in and I trust the staff completely. The entire staff is very friendly and even meet us outside and get him from the car when I pull up to drop him off. When I first moved to Dallas and rescued Bexar, I was very nervous trying to find a place to take him on days that I would be too busy to give him enough attention. Urban Paws had great reviews and we couldn’t be happier with our experiences! It’s great to pick up a happy pup who falls asleep in the car on the way home from playing all day.

Visited 2 times with our french bulldog puppy.

I love this place! I have been taking Max to this daycare since my mom told me about them. She takes her Cookie and Pelussa and they love it. Max seems to love it too because whenever I’m close to the facility he wants to jump off my car and get in! Lol .
Also, their groomer, JD is amazing, and he leaves Max looking like the badass Jack Russell he Is. Everyone is so loving and caring of all doggies it’s really cool. They are also pretty flexible about their hours, which is good for us hard workers.
My doggie has some behavior issues and they seem to understand it, so I feel really confident about dropping my baby off.

I’ve been a «regular» of this boarding facility for over a year. However I will not be bringing my dogs back here again!!!
A few months ago I was concerned when I unpacked my dogs bag to find rat droppings in the bottom of their bag. I immediately called urban paws to find out what was going on and they apologized and told me that they were having an issue with rats lately however the bags were kept in a closet that was separate from my dogs food, toys etc. They also offered to replace my dogs toys since I was definitely not going to let them chew on them again now that they were in a bag with rat poop. I decided to give them another chance since this was a one time issue.
However, today we picked up our two dogs from urban paws and as soon as we put our dog in the car noticed that his ear was bleeding and had a wound on it. We immediately went inside and asked them if they knew he was injured. They said they had no idea what was wrong with him and there were no fights today. Once we got him home we noticed that he also had a puncture wound on his lip and it was beginning to swell up. We had to take him to the vet ASAP as he appeared to be in a lot of pain. The vet confirmed that he had 3 puncture wounds and would need to be on antibiotics and pain meds.
Urban paws paid for his vet bill which was nice since it was their fault! However no dog should be injured in a boarding facility and no one know anything about it!!! They did call to check on my dog but again stated that no one there knew or saw anything. To just put the cherry on top of this horrible experience, my dogs blankets were soaked in pee and had what appeared to be rat chew marks in their ziploc bag of dog food. Needless to say I would not trust my pets there ever again!!!

Better not drop off your pup if it has long hair… Dingleberries and matted clumps of shit all over your dog galore will result. And the folks behind the counter and the employee pet-​retriever will shrug and blame you for the disgusting occurrence.
I have been taking my dog, Rufus, to Urban Paws for a year and have always had good service, but the last thing I needed after a week long work trip, was matted sh*t in my pup’s hair.
Why couldn’t they have called to advise that he needed a haircut? They provide that service… Who’s running this joint!!!
I moved on down the street for my puppy boarding and daycare. Onward and upward. Thank you!

Ive been taking my small dog (terrier mix) to Urban Paws for the past 2 years. He is an older rescue and had some quirks, fears and socialization issues to overcome. Urban Paws has been very sensitive to this and protective of him. They understand and give him extra TLC. After 2 years of slowly warming him up, he now runs and plays ball with other dogs. It’s so heartwarming to see his progress which I believe is partly credited to Urban Paws.
NOTE: They also do GREAT grooming!

Went on vacation for a week and a half and had my 3 small dogs kenneled here. I just got them home and their condition is actually scaring me.
Looking through these reviews I see a lot of similarities. My dogs are «lethargic and sick». Just plain not right.
One of my dogs, the smallest, got home and had the most watery diarrhea i have ever seen. She seems extremely dehydrated and won’t eat or drink. The not eating part is pretty normal for her but she will only eat if I feed her ONE piece of food at a time and sits there shaking. She won’t drink any water. We TOLD the staff that they need to watch all three dogs while they are eating because the other two will try to eat the smallest ones food. My HUNCH is that they didn’t watch and my poor dog starved.
Meanwhile my other dog is taking little bits of her food and eating them in the corner.
I’m about to call this establishment and ask what is going on?

I’ve boarded my puppy here a few times and take her here for daycamp a lot. She loves it! She gets so happy and excited to go in and always falls asleep on the car ride home. She’s been unsocialized before because she was an isolated pampered princess so I’m relieved Urban Paws is helping her become a little team player!
My baby actually has a social life now, and friends! Yay!

Best things about Urban Paws: valet service (they get the dog from your car– good if you tend to run late!); lots of play areas with rotations; photos posted to facebook of your dogs; they separate dogs based on size and temperament; and of course, my puppy loves it and comes home tired!
Things to improve: some of the staff can be sort of unfriendly or awkward sometimes, but are mostly very nice and helpful. They can also a very disorganized. Several times they’ve tried to give me leashes and dog toys that aren’t my dog’s.

I’ve taken my dog to Petsmart daycare and also Downtown Dogs and I really think Urban Paws is the best of the three. More fun, bigger, better facilities and more playtime than Petsmart, and less sketchy of a neighborhood and cleaner than Downtown dogs.
Also, the dog groomer doesn’t look super professional but he’s very good and knows what he’s doing!

I saw all the high ratings and instantly went for a tour of the facility– it is beautiful, clean, and the dogs seem very happy. HOWEVER, my dog did not end up staying here because of the total lack of professionalism from the front desk staff. I have had several interactions with one worker in particular that have caused me to feel like I am not welcome as a new client.
I needed to drop off the application– so I called to make sure it was a good time and was given a very sarcastic response (along the lines of «well I’m here, so why wouldn’t it be a good time?»). I brought the application and was there told that they also needed my pet’s vaccination record… oh and their fax machine is being ‘finnicky’ so I need to make another special trip. Why wasn’t I told this on the special phone call I had made to make sure I could bring the application? Instead I had received a rude response. And the time I am taking to make all these special trips is not considered whatsoever.
I thought maybe this was an uncharacteristic situation and the worker was having a bad day. So I called back the next day to ask about setting up a grooming appointment. She couldn’t answer any of my questions about how long the appointment might take because «Ma’am, I am not a groomer». I said «Ok, so are we talking 30 minutes or 4 hours? I have to schedule around my job.» The response I got was– «I guess probably something between 30 minutes and 4 hours.» Totally sarcastic and rude. When I ask what they would do with my dog if they finished grooming him really quickly and I couldn’t get away from work without any warning, she flippantly says they would charge me for daycare. I am asking if there is any way I can avoid that and she wouldn’t help me at all.
Keep in mind that almost every exchange we have had has been in the middle of the day– I am trying to be understanding of the chaos she has to deal with around pick-​up and drop-​off time.
I hate to give a bad review of a business based on 1 unprofessional staff member out of probably 30 extremely professional and capable people. But something has to change because this is such a well-​run facility and I would love for my puppy to stay here and for their client base to continue growing, but I don’t see how that is possible with the current situation.
