Meet the Business Owner
Michelle C.
Business Owner
With nearly 23 years in the industry, Michelle Carpenter is widely-known as one of the best sushi chefs in Dallas. Her culinary perspective is as unique as she: Michelle is half-Japanese and half– Cajun. After working for 12 years at the legendary Yamaguchi’s, known to many insiders as the best sushi in Dallas before it closed, Michelle decided to open up Zen in the Bishop Arts District.
She prides herself on using the best and freshest ingredients. Each dish on her menu, often southwestern and Japanese, is conceptualized and executed with exacting standards.
Michelle has received numerous awards and accolades including: Where The Locals Eat Award for Best Restaurants in Dallas in 2010, Favorite Restaurants in Texas Monthly in 2009, Best Sushi by the Dallas Voice in 2009, Best Sushi by the Dallas Observer in 2008, Top Sushi Bars by the DMN Guide in 2008, Best Roll (Sakura Roll) by D Magazine in 2008, and Rising Chef Award Contest in 1998.
