I just wrote a tip, but I cannot express how much distaste I have for this staff. I was outside at 11 when she was locking the doors. She had just turned the key, and there I am with my toddler son pointing to my Pampers baby wipes. We had just had an awful drive home where we realized we were on empty gas, it was late and we were trying to get home. We needed to use the restroom, and she just looked at me paused and thought about it, and shook her head no. She didn’t even say sorry or anything, it was the worst. I believe that the café area closes at 11, and we were there by 11. It’s not like I was there banging on the door after they had been closed for like 5 or 10 minutes. She had just literally locked the door as I was right there, she saw me and the wipes and still choose to ignore me. My husband was in the car trying to get the gas at the Safeway station, but everything was closed. There was a homeless person on the bench, and drunk drivers hollering at me. As we walked wondering around for a restroom.(We ended up at 7 – 11) Because of this woman’s decision, it made our night very tough and full of anxiety and grief. Just another reason why McDonald’s is not for me. No faith in humanity. I might also add that I am a stay-at-home mom, completely sober after a night at my in-laws with our son and family, I had my hair and my make up and everything proper, wearing a nice outfit, and was not at all somebody to turn away for any fear or threat. There was no reason physically or aesthetically for this woman to judge me the way that she did. I feel a little racism going on here. Outrageous! I’ll tell you why racism… The fact that it wasn’t exactly 11, and the fact that she actually saw me after she turned the key in my quandary about the toilet with my pampers in my hand, leads me to believe that this was an act of racism against white people. She paused for a second looked at me and just ignored it shaking her head no and moving on out of sight.

As my McDonald’s reviews continue, I find myself in Damascus, MD. On New Year’s Eve, my wife and I were visiting friends in Mount Airy, and decided that we were going to arrive just a too early for dinner. So about half an hour ahead of our schedule, we decided to grab a quick bite at this McDonald’s. Now if you have seen my review about the location a bit up the road in Mount Airy, you could guess that I was not too hopeful about this one. However, it was perfectly fine. The only notable thing was that the peppermint hot chocolate was mixed properly.(Yes, some McDonald’s can even screw that up.) The most remarkable thing in the store was a teenage girl texting, most likely with her friends, before a party or something. Otherwise, this is just your run of the mill McDonald’s – nothing less, nothing more.

This morning my kids and I stopped to McDonald for breakfast. The staff was greet greeting and taking our order; but once we got to the car my daughter opened up her breakfast sandwich took a bit and pulled out a piece of hair. WTF. I went in and spoke to a manager and they refund the money back and gave me my food for free. I think I’m going to report them to the department of health.

The food is standard McDonald’s fare, but going through the drive-thru, it’s nearly impossible to understand the usually-Spanish-speaking order taker. Nor can he or she understand you well. For the last three years, I’ve watched as the understanding-at-the-speaker-point has diminished to the point where I almost always drive right past the speaker and go straight to the window to order. I speak a bit of Spanish myself, which helps, but miming and pointing at menu items helps speed things up. I often wish I was fluent in Spanish just so I could get through the drive-thru quickly and didn’t have to always check my bag, which inevitably contains at least one wrong item because they couldn’t understand my Maryland accent. Love the food; hate the experience.

Pretty good, as far as McDonald’s chain restaurants go. Very popular locally, especially with the older citizenry, who tend to come from breakfast. Quality of service has varied enormously over the years, since turnover is extremely high, but generally it’s decent. Seems clean enough. If you absolutely need quick food, you could do worse than come here. If you eat in, try to sit in the well-lit terrarium-type area.
