Friendliest staff! Big portion on the food, limited beers on tap but they have my Lagunitas so I’m a happy guest.

This is your Taco Tuesday or happy hour Mexican food place. We come here to be loud, enjoy laughters, beer and tacos, quesadillas, carne asada, or what ever floats your boat. We had great service with a smile and endless chips and(great) salsa. The food is fine and compliments the beer, atmosphere and laughters. Great place, outside, inside, all around a original beach surf hang out. A fun place if you are fun.

Taco Surf is just like any other Mexican restaurant. The food was alright. The menu didn’t have any original takes on traditional Mexican dishes. Prices were good for the OC area but weren’t great. The décor was much like Fred’s and some wahoo fish taco restaurants(read hodgepodge of surf related items mixed with hipster Mexican knick-knacks). Service wasn’t great either. The waitress did not remember what kind of dressing was served with the salads(not listed on the menu) and seemed stressed out. Which wasn’t a surprise because they were severely understaffed. Would not go again.

We stopped in here after a half day fishing trip out of Dana Point. The place was almost empty but we had a big party(20) so we thought that would be great. The waitress seemed put out that we wanted to sit together. She put us in the direct sun after a half day in the sun so we asked if we could sit in the shade and move an umbrella for my pregnant niece and her husband. She was once again put out. The food was slow in coming even though we were the only ones there. Food was good but the server ruined the experience. She made us feel like we were an unwanted burden.

Stop by for a quick take-out lunch. didn’t know what I wanted and the waitress said try our shrimp tacos that’s what we’re known for! So ordered a shrimp taco and a fish Taco. While sitting at the bar met the owner, seems like a very nice guy. He was working on a new computer system for his business. Took my two tacos home staying(just up the hill) and quite frankly it was most awesome shrimp taco I’d ever had, Messy but awesome. Fish was good, but the shrimp perfect if you’re Huuungrey .I’ll be back. Hopefully to give them that 5-star rating. which one should never do the 1st time.

Love the surf hut décor. Great Shrimp tacos. Good Margaritas. Nice staff. One of the owners is kinda cranky but the rest of the staff and his wife Dot make up for it!

I’m a regular customer. Love the staff especially Diane and Aubrey. They are friendly, fun, and well trained. They take care of the customer even when they are super busy. Chips and drinks are always refilled. My plates are always cleared when I am finished. I never feel rushed. The atmosphere is like«Cheers» –lot of regular customers who are nice and friendly. Love the surfer style décor. The portions are large and the price is inexpensive. The manager, George, always greets us with a smile. He is always seen walks around the restaurant, helping his staff, and making sure the customer is happy.

Just moved to Dana point a couple months ago and this little place is great! Has a great lunch special. Favorite is ground beef crispy taco. Finally a place that the ground beef has flavor and spice! They’ll warn you its spicy… but it’s great! Fun surf ambiance and kick back atmosphere. Nice staff!

Wicked friendly waitstaff, great prices, huge portions. I have eaten here with friends multiple times… only complaint from one was that the soft corn taco shells fell apart in hand. I can’t seem to stray from the shrimp enselada burrito which is excellent. Also tried my friends wet shredded chicken burrito and the ground beef burrito. Found both equally excellent. Very cool, casual, chill, semi-divey feel which I loved! Post surf food for sure! Great skinny margaritas too… Unpretentious mexican at it’s best.

Taco Tuesday! Great deals! I ordered a quesadilla I wanted carne asada but that not offered on the taxi Tuesday deal, that’s ok I got carnitas instead. Food came in a timely we got salsa & chips they were ok. My quesadilla with a tiny dollop of guacamole was so greasy, I had a small pool of greasy on my plate. Maybe order something else on the menu, I’ve eaten here before & thought it was pretty good. Hole I the wall kind of place.

I was in town for a few days and came across taco surf 30 minutes before they closed on a Friday night. With no idea what to expect I stared at the menu for awhile. A nice woman came by asked how we were and dropped off some chips and salsa. My first bite I was thinking, «wow this is damn good salsa» ok I’m in. I know if you do salsa right everything else comes together. The whole menu looked good so I asked the bartender for his favorite. He ordered for me a couple of shrimp tacos and I’ll tell you this. these were the best tacos I’ve had in my life! The staff is super friendly and upon leaving the bar we stopped to talk with the woman who dropped off our chips. She asked us how we liked the food and we told her it was amazing. Then after all this we come to find out she’s the owner! Such a humble woman, serving great food, I know I’ll be back anytime I’m around. Eat here and you won’t be disappointed.

So happy I found this gem! Greatest taco Tuesday I’ve been to in a while. There was a short wait to be seated(we got there at 6:30pm on a Tuesday!!), a little crazy inside so we decided to sit outside and was not disappointed with it whatsoever. Almost every table had its own heater and to our surprise there was only one other couple sitting there the entire time we ate. Our waitress Molly had a great presence and was on top of everything! 5star! Definitely coming back next week. ;P

I thought this one was going to be as good as the Taco Surf in Pacific Beach in San Diego(which is amazing by the way). We should have taken our cue from the fact that this place was completely empty at noon on a Saturday. No lunch crowd? No other customers at all??? I ordered the smothered bean and cheese burrito. Seemed like a pretty safe bet. I’m not sure if it was clove or what but there was this«clovey» taste that was overwhelming in the sauce on the burrito. It just didn’t fit. Our waitress was VERY nice but as far as Mexican food goes, there are far better places out there and I probably won’t be back here.

Sleepy Mexican food place. Nice faux-Baja California vibe. Sports a patio and a full bar. Food is fine, but unremarkable with the exception of the salsa that comes with the chips, which has a nice heat to it. Service is reasonably good.

Jen and I ate here on Saturday night after Pacific Paddle Games in Doho. She had a huge plate of steak fajitas and I had the ground beef wet burrito. Our server was cool and outgoing when she took our order. After we received our food, she must have gotten busy or something, because she didn’t return until the end. Food was decent, like most Mexican restaurants. I wasn’t amazed, but I was satisfied.

None of the food seemed to be freshly made in the restaurant. The basket of chips was a mish-mash of different textures and ages. One was thick and greasy, the next was smaller and stale. Definitely not made in-house or fresh at all. Their hard shell tacos practically broke our teeth and the red sauce on top of the burrito was inedible. The chicken in the chicken tacos was old and tough. Absolutely do not recommend this restaurant! However, our server was very nice and helpful. She gave us a great recommendation of where to get ice cream and even wrote down the address for us. She seemed to know that the restaurant had poor quality food and was trying her best to make up for it in service.
