Thein Patrick MD

I have loved Dr. Thein as my OBGYN. I have never had a more caring and compassionate doctor. My first two daughters went to the NICU after begin born (I was under the care of two different doctors then). For my third daughter, he approached the delivery differently and she was able to be born without having to go to the NICU afterwards. The only thing that was different in that delivery is that I had Dr. Thein. He’s the kind of doctor who truly knows you as his patient. My deliveries are very fast (my last one was born within an hour of getting to the hospital) and Dr. Thein had called in the medications that I needed ahead of time so that the nurses were ready when I arrived. He is kind and takes the time to explain things and answer my questions. He was also incredibly accessible – a rarity nowadays! I also have learned that many of the nurses at the hospital choose to have Dr. Thein as their OBGYN since they consider him to be the best. I have so appreciated the exceptional care I received as a patient of Dr. Thein. I wish every doctor could be more like Dr. Thein.

Dr. Thein is by far the best OBGYN ever. I have traveled to him from Oceanside, from Murrieta and from Torrance. I have delivered 2 of 4 children with him. He is very knowledgeable and professional. I’m a nurse and I felt absolutely satisfied with my care. He has great bed side manner, takes time to explain procedures, medications, etc. He is on top of everything. He always made me feel that my baby and I were in safe hands. My family could not stop talking about how great he was when they met him. He is head of a labor and delivery program that ensures that a dr. Is always on call or available for deliveries at Mission Viejo. His office staff is very kind and professional. She is always helpful and responds to messages quickly.

Dr. Thein is by far the best doctor I’ve ever had! I have been going to him for 15 years. He always listens and goes above and beyond. He is honest and spends time answering all of my questions. I have been through a lot over the last 15 years with pregnancies and other issues, and I’m glad I was in his hands.

Dr. Thein is the most hands on, professional, and informative Dr I have had. I went to 6 – 10 obgyns when I had our first son and realized that Dr. Thein was the only one that listened to my concerns and actually answered all my questions. The other Drs at the newer mission building told me that they may or may not be there for delivery, a different dr may be on call. With Dr. Thein he was there every step of the way, even with my 3am calls when I wasn’t feeling well. Our next baby is due in Nov and I’m so glad that he’s still practicing. I have recommended him to several people and they love him too!

By far the best doctor I have ever had. What sets him apart is that he actually spends time with every patient — he does it all, and listens to all your concerns and questions. I’ve delivered my two children with him and every time he as been at the hospital checking on me and even arrived at 5AM on a Saturday to deliver my first. He has wonderful bedside manner and his staff is great and very easy to work with. Yes, his office lacks all the bells and whistles of other OBGYN’s but he by far makes up for this with his patient care.

Dr. Patrick Thein was reffered to me through nurses at Mission Hospital, where he delivers. The nurses said he was hands down the best most gentle doctor. Since then Dr. Thein has delivered all three of my children. He also was successfully able to turn my breeched baby at 38 weeks to avoid c-​section. He is gentle and compassionate. VERY professional and caring.

Just called to get an appointment and was treated very rudely by the front desk. Moving on to the next office

I am not one of Dr. Thein’s patients, but I did see him yesterday as my doctor is currently out of town. I was SO impressed with Dr. Thein and how attentive and caring he was without me even being his patient and never having met me before. I am 36 weeks pregnant and am having a lot of pain and some concerns. He was very thorough and I can tell he truly cares about his patients and loves what he does. He even gave me his cell phone number for any emergency while my doctor is gone. Wow! I highly recommend him, as doctors like him seem hard to come by these days!

This is a very good, caring and smart doctor. Our kids, both delivered by Dr. Thein, are 10 and 13 now, but I remember how safe he made us feel, and how accessible and on-​the-​ball he was.

Yes, décor is out-​of-​date (hasn’t changed since my first visit to his office in 1995 — lol), but this bears NO reflection on quality of care you receive, which is excellent. I have two sons (17 & 14) Dr. Thein delivered and one on the way now.
My current pregnancy is extremely complicated (I had emergency surgery where both my life & baby’s were on the line) and Dr. Thein is proactive, caring, diligent and follows up with other doctors and the hospital like no other. He was the attending OB/​GYN when I had my first son (1995). It was an emergency c-​section, he took over for my doctor when it became an emergency. She was NOT wonderful (I annoyed her by «ruining» her expensive dinner as I ‘came in before my contractions were close enough together to warrant her dropping everything to come in’ even after she sent me home a first time when I knew something was feeling «off.». Good thing, since it turned into an emergency situation quickly…)
Important points:
1) Dr. Thein reviews all options & educates the patient — every available test is explained, but he does not push for over testing (our neonatologist has a battery of tests we «just need» everytime we walk in, vs. Dr. Thein who reviews and explains why something is beneficial, lets us know when something may not be worth the cost, then allows us the choice without pushback if we opt out.
2) He is an excellent surgeon. I had an emergency c-​section and then a planned c-​section (he encouraged me to try VBAC the 2^nd time but when I opted for a c-​section, he didn’t make me feel badly) and this time I will have a planned c-​section due to emergency surgery I’d had (by another surgeon — I had an intestinal blockage/​infection). He is well respected by other specialists, surgeons and nurses at the hospital. His approach tends to be conservative, but he offers all options and we don’t feel pushed in one direction vs. another.
3) He takes every concern seriously and made himself available before/​after office hours when we had a couple of emergency scares. He is EXCELLENT at returning calls personally and responding to his emergency pager (for REAL emergencies).
4) I had to be pulled from work on leave for a couple months. He has been supportive of my desire to return and works with my husband and I on every decision (there are a lot of decisions to make due to complicaitons) and directs us to resources to do our own research. From everything to prenatal vitamins (I couldn’t keep ANYthing down) he gave us samples to try sdo we weren’t spending money for me to just throw something new up, until we found what would work.
5) Denise, his office manager, is WONDERFUL, knows most patients, works well with insurance issues and has been amazing with getting emergency prescription/​refill requests handled out of the blue (I’ve had hyperemesis graviderum & take medication to keep ANY food/​liquid down for months, and «pregnant brain» caused me to forget repeatedly to plan ahead to order a refill — yet she never made me feel bad for yet again another rush call.)
I recognize this review is long — I just can’t say enough! I’ve been overwhelmed by what a wonderful doctor we have. We have 3 other specialists we must consult, and Dr. Thein has gone out of his way to make everything as seamless as possible for us. I would recommend him to ANYone! The only reason for the 4 stars is that i recognize the décor may be off-​putting to new patients, but medically you won’t go wrong!

Amazing doctor! Always returns phone calls and truly cares about his patients. He made me feel safe and cares for during my complicated pregnancies. He had car problems during my second child’s birth, so he hitch hiked to get to me! Truly
amazing, better than those factory OB/​GYN offices.

We didn’t actually see the doctor. We made it into the waiting room as were disgusted by how filthy out dated it was. It is in a small run down looking building. Smelled bad as soon as you opened the door. Carpet was matted and stained. Don’t think it had ever been vacuumed. Chairs were too stained and disgusting to even sit in.
He may be a good dr, but it’s not worth finding out.

Dr. Thein is kind-​hearted, empathetic, perceptive and caring. Office décor is dated, to be sure, but the quality of care is absolutely top-​notch. He is an outstanding surgeon, understated and unflappable. Completely up-​to-​date in terms of the latest testing/​procedures/​medications/​etc. An insiders secret of a doc!

TEMPER TANTRUMS, rudeness, yelling, violations of patient privacy & confidentially — STAY CLEAR. Unbelievable. I’ve never seen a doctor act like this. This doctor literally screamed at me and at other patients. He makes calls about patients’ confidential medical information at the top of his lungs in the middle of the open office where everyone in the waiting room can hear him. His secretary has an attitude about even scheduling appointments. He picks fights with every other medical practitioner and service. I don’t care how good a medical practitioner he may be, this doctor doesn’t treat women well and he won’t talk to patients about their medical options. Scary. STAY CLEAR!
