Federal Automotive Service and Towing

I came on my lunch break and was in and out so fast I still had time to sit down for my meal. Everyone was very friendly with a good sense of humor. I only had to get my emissions done and it was only $ 20. I paid in cash but they do accept cards for emissions as well. They have great customer service. A few years ago my sister totaled her car and these guys towed it and they couldn’t have been more helpful and kind. It’s nice to know their quality hasn’t change.

I was referred to federal towing by one of the tow truck drivers who promised me they would be fair and honest about fixing my car. So I used them and was happy with the service price and the time in which the job took.
HOWEVER… The next time we call AAA was for my sons car. The tow truck driver was a different one form the first time and he quoted us 50 for the tow. When guy in the office called the next day he gave me a ridiculous price of 2200.00 to fix it. So we decided to get another estimate. He then said he was charging me 60 for the tow and 90 to look at it. When i argued the 60 instead of 50 he insisted that the driver didn’t tell me 50 and he would take the other 10 off. So we paid the money and found another mechanic to do the job for 500.00.
So at this point I thought since my experience with them was ⁵⁰⁄₅₀ I would give them another shot. So i called AAA AGAIN they came and the tow truck driver was very rough with dragging my car on the truck. So they take my car in and said that the problem wasn’t as big of a deal as i thought it would be (thought it was the starter) and and only charged me to change the batteries cables. They also mentioned that the exhaust seemed to be a problem. He said to replace it would be very expensive so he could do a temp fix for 150.00. I said no problem since I knew It sounded like there might have been small hole in the exhaust. He also mentioned that it needs two front axles. I told him would have to bring it back for that because I didn’t have the time to fix it at that point. He quoted me 1400.00 for the job. So when I pick my car up I couldn’t believe how loud it was. It went from sounding like there was a small hole in the exhaust to sounding like they took the exhaust completely off.
So when when I took my car to the other mechanic he said yes he did make the exhaust worst and that he would fix it but he also told me that the car was so dangerous to drive that by law he couldn’t allow me to take it with out fixing the front suspension. It was a hazard. He would only charge me 300 for two front axles. (Compared to their 1400). But he needs to fix the front end as well. The whole job including fixing the exhaust that federal towing messed up was 1100.00. Still A LOT less than what federal wanted to charge me for just two front axles.
I will not be using them again.
