Specialties

Founded in 1956 by owner Monroe Udell, Jaxson’s specializes in house-made ice cream and toppings as well as a full food menu featuring fresh burgers, amazing hot dogs (including our 1 lb. Artillery Dog) and a variety of sandwiches, salads, and wraps. Our corned beef and pastrami rival those of any deli! We even make our own soft drinks using the finest flavors and pure cane sugar with no preservatives or high fructose corn syrup.

Take a step back in time when you visit our candy store located on the premises. We have candies that will remind you of a time gone by as well as a selection of stuffed animals and our famous Jaxson’s T-shirts.

Jaxson’s has both table service indoors and a take out window with ample outdoor seating. There is live entertainment outdoors on the weekends in addition to a highly skilled balloon artist and Mikey the monkey who will take your dollar bill and shake your hand!

Marvel at our collection of memorabilia and vintage and specialty license plates.

History

Established in 1956.

Located in the same spot since 1956, Jaxson’s was founded by owner Monroe Udell who moved to South Florida from Rhode Island in 1947. Monroe had worked in a number of his father’s restaurants both up north and in Florida, and decided at age 28 that it was time to strike out on his own.

Jaxson’s offered fresh ice cream made daily on premises right from the start. Air conditioning, a local rarity at the time, also helped bring in the crowds. The classic curved formica counter and open kitchen were 50’s state of the art.

The early 1970’s brought big changes to Jaxson’s. The adjacent retail space was turned into more dining area and much needed back of the house facilities. A major decorating overhaul was undertaken, with the results of that effort visible today. The incredible license plate collection was first installed at this time and continues to be augmented to this day.

Jaxson’s has appeared 3 times on the Food Network, ABC’s Good Morning America, CNN and others.

Meet the Business Owner

Monroe U.

Business Owner

Born in Connecticut in 1928, the future King of Ice Cream first cut his teeth in the restaurant business as a young man helping his father’s diner survive the rationing rigors of World War II. Soon after the war the Udell family moved to Hollywood, FL.

At age 28 Monroe decided to strike out on his own. Having seen the storm of 1947 push the ocean up to Federal Highway, Monroe settled on his present location just north of Stirling Road on Federal Highway. On opening day in 1956 Jaxson’s occupied half the space it now fills.

While there have been many changes to Jaxson’s over the years, one constant has remained: Monroe’s relentless pursuit of serving the highest quality product. Through dedication, hard work and attention to detail, Monroe sets an example for the entire staff that will ensure the continued success of his landmark creation.
