Tried to save a few dollars by having my hair blown out here. HUGE mistake. Save your hair, time & money. Just go elsewhere. So unprofessional. Cannot believe they’re setting the pace for future stylists. Embarrassing!

Great new salon I found to get my haircut. They did a great job on my hair and the stylist had great customer service.

I LOVE W Academy. I have been coming here since it first opened a few years ago. Every student who has worked on my hair has done a good or even excellent job. I always worried when my hairdresser graduated and I had to move on to another. Now I don’t because I know the instructors are fabulous and carefully oversee and help out the newbies. Elayne and Cindy are terrific instructors who know their stuff. I’ve sent many friends who have all been delighted with the prices and the stylists. Just allow extra time since the students are learning.

The W Academy is an excellent school, brimming with talented and enthusiastic students who seem to adore what they do and teachers who provide excellent direction and support. I have had many appointments here, both for my skin and my hair and only have wonderful things to say. Sure the services can sometimes take a little longer that they would at a professional salon, but that’s the nature of these types of schools and that is why the prices are next to nothing. Also worth noting — the main floor instructor, Elayne, is an absolute doll! She spends so much time working with her students to ensure that clients receive an excellent service and it’s clear that her students adore her. I highly recommend this hidden treasure of a place for the next time you feel like getting pampered without breaking the bank!

Just as an update. Here is a private message I received today on Unilocal from one of the stylists (not my stylist). At least you can see a different perspective of how the stylists feel about Elaine. I feel that this is extremely inappropriate to be contacted in this way. It is freedom of speech and my experience was exactly how I stated it. I truly felt bullied and there was zero customer service and the issue was blown way out of proportion. Management could have easily diffused the situation at any given moment by showing an ounce of concern for my experience. I was never rude to my stylist, I tipped her well, and I never had a problem with her — just the situation and how it was handled by management. Receiving this private message from one of the stylists is very unprofessional, unwarranted, and disturbing.
«Let me start by saying I am a student at the w academy and am in no way a formal representative of the business itself. Us as students are absolutely appalled at your perspective of what happened. The disrespect you showed the students and the teachers was unacceptable. Our teachers are in no way bullies. They mentor us care for us as if we are their children. Elaine is LITERALLY one of the sweetest human beings I have ever met. Everyday she greets us all everyday with a hug, and starts off the day giving shout outs to all of the students at how great their work the previous day was. Every time a student graduates she crys because she is going to miss us and loves us so much, and we love her just as much. It makes me sick to my stomach seeing how you dragged her name through the mud when day in and day out, she does so much for us. She comes early, stays late, and consistently doesn’t even get to take a lunch because she is making sure we get all of the care and assistance we need to grow as students. She is truly one of the most selfless people I have ever met. I am so disappointed I even had to take the time do address this. To Address the other points of your review. There may have been color left on your scalp, because we’re students. It took 2 hours and 45 minutes, because we’re students. Your service, even with the extra bowl of color, was dirt cheap compared to anywhere else in this area, BECAUSE WE’RE F-​ING STUDENTS („F-​ing“ was spelled out in her original note to me). All of your criticisms are ridiculous because they are expected when coming to a school. You took out your anger on literally everybody whose fault it wasn’t. None of those people were responsible for the ordering and not having enough color. It was a series of unfortunate miscommunications, and they did their best with the situation they were presented with. Next time think before you speak when publicly criticizing people, because you don’t know what your talking about.»

I’ve gotten my hair done here twice now with Monica. She is a FABULOUS colorist! Always does exactly what I want, has ideas/​suggestions, and does it in good time! LOVE!

I’ve been here twice for blow out and both times had excellent services. I have long hair that is thick and curly. can’t beat the price and it took just a little longer than most Blowdry bars. I followed up with a hot iron at home to make sure my hair stayed straight. would def go back!

I hadn’t gotten my hair professionally colored in almost a year because I moved and was afraid of paying a fortune for it with someone I didn’t know. I took the leap and went here, let me tell you it was fabulous! Renee was the lovely lady that helped me out, I went in there not really sure of what I wanted so I let her as well as the instructor kind of decide what to do. Everyone there was friendly, energized and loved the rusults of Renee’s artwork on my hair. The only reason I didn’t give it a 5 is the amount of time it took which was longer than expected. HOWEVER it is a school, so the process is a little different than a regular salon. I will definitely be going back for my next color or cut!

My girlfriend decided to get her hair cut at the W Academy which we have never been to before and i was afraid the stylists would cut her hair too short since we usually run into that problem at places like Sports Clips and Super Clips, but our stylist Danielle did an excellent job! it wasn’t cut too short and I’m really impressed with how she layered my girls hair. Thanks Danielle!

Have been a client for quite awhile and will continue to take advantage of the very high quality service and products I get here! I get both hair and skin services which are as professional, or more so, as they are in high $ spas and salons for a fraction of the price. Can’t say enough good here! The students are talented, motivated and well trained while being supervised by experienced professionals from the field. This is the best value in the Bay Area. I invite the most critical and picky client to come here and see, you won’t be sorry.

I just brought my mom here and they made her look absolutely fabulous.

This was seriously the worst experience I have ever had at a hair salon. I ended up having to spend the whole day at the salon (10 – 5) while my hair dresser could care less about my hair.
They didn’t do what I asked them to do and ended up making my hair look horrible. I paid 83 dollars and I have to get my hair done again.
I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!

I had a wonderful full day (8 hours) hair makeover. Danielle was fantastic, the supervisor was helpful and supportive. It was great having the most updated products and techniques used. I am returning for my hair and will add nails, make up and facials to future visits.
The only downside; the chairs. Hard and uncomfortable and seemed awkward for stylist. I will return and I will bring a cushion.
Danville should embrace this gem and remember to tip stylist well!

Had an appointment for a facial and loved it! Suzanne spent a lot of time explaining what she was doing, it felt great, people said I was glowing afterwards! Very friendly and relaxing.
