History

Established in 2012.

To make a long story short. Howie was in 7th grade and that was when he realized that he wanted to own a Hot Dog Stand. He worked in several in High School and College.

Fast Forward to 2000. He moved down to South Florida and worked as a Project Manager for a couple of Internet Companies as the Internet was booming. Then that bubble burst.

He fell into a position working as an Office Manager for a local Synagogue where he watched and learned and quickly grew out of the position. He Applied to another one and began his career as an Executive Director. After almost 10 years working in the politically charged world of religion he decided he wanted a change.

Late in 2012 he opened up Howie’s Top Dog. Now that he is away from the politics and working for other people he is able to soar and provide people great service, great food and now only has to answer to his wife and family.

Life is much better now. Stop in and see how happy he is and how happy you will be.

Coming from New Orleans about a year ago, it is almost impossible to find a replacement for Dat Dog, our beloved NOLA favorite. Howie’s is a damn good replacement! I am a large guy, and should have listened to Howie when he said the loaded tater tots were really filling, but they tasted so good, I had to order a second order of them. Howie was right. Thank you Sir!

My Mother is from Chicago and was missing her Chicago Italian Beef sandwich so being the great daughter that I am I took her to Howie’s Top Dog and made her happy and me also! Besides the delicious Chicago Beef Sandwiches they also have great Gyro’s which I get sometimes on top of a Greek Salad. I’ve liked everything I’ve tried at Howie’s and Howie is Awesome. Super friendly and he plays a great Chicago radio station.

Great place! Family operated. Owner is extremely friendly, everyone polite, make your food in front of you and with love, go out of their way to accommodate you, not cheap with their toppings, they dont look at you like you just killed their pet rabbit if you ask for more cheese. Just a cool and clean down to earth american burger and dog place with great prices, great people and quality ingredients, will return :)

Wow and yum!!! Took my grandma here for lunch and we loved it. I had a Chicago Dog and a Chili Cheese Dog, completely delicious! We also had a side of onion rings and they were perfect. Got to meet and be served by thee Howie! Super nice! Already looking forward to returning.

just had the Francheesie dog and it’s SO GOOD it should be illegal. Deep fried with bacon and really good cheese topping, I’m already planning my next visit. Last week I had the loaded tater tots which are so hearty, you really should plan on having them as a meal, not a side dish. crispy tots that are loaded with a liberal helping of chili, cheese, sour cream and bacon, in a portion so large that I couldn’t finish them.
very friendly staff and chef (Howie, I presume?) a fun place to eat and the food is certainly the star attraction.

He serves Chicago style and product here. The beef is good and the hot giardinera was on, I prefer shredded mozzarella. The Chicago hot dog was very good, not sure if he steams the buns. The maxwell st polish was good. I’ll be back to try the rest of the menu.

I’m going to go against the grain, with my rating. Despite the praise being heaped upon Howie’s, I’ve tried dogs all over the world and this location does not measure up to any of it’s peers. That said, I just may not have the local connection to this eatery, to appreciate the fare. Yes, the price is great, but Howie’s just doesn’t make the cut with me. 1.5 stars… I do not recommend…

This is the best hot dog restaurant that I have ever been in. Nice clean place right off 441. My friend and I got there well before the lunch rush around 11am so we had the place to ourselves. We both ordered the Chicago style hot dog with a side of onion rings. We were very happy with both and will definitely be back for more.

They have quite the menu here! The owner is super friendly and staff! Sounded like Chi town customers in there as well!

Pretty good chicago dogs, I was able to use the Unilocal deal of buying a $ 10 voucher for $ 6, so I just paid $ 6 for my meal of Single Italian dog with loaded tater tots. both were very good and very filling. Great guy– Howie, working behind the counter and cooking the food, you can see him really enjoy his cooking, menu, and location. Only complaint would be his store hours are during work hours for me so very rare do I get a chance to see them open, but good food!

I enjoyed the food and would echo the other positive reviews. I rarely talk about the price, especially if the food was good, but I think it important to mention. I ordered two chili cheese dogs, an order of onion rings, and a fountain drink — Total: $ 13. I know the average lunch is $ 10 – 20, so this was well within range, but I’m not sure how I fell about spending that amount for hot dogs. Maybe I’m just not a big hot dog person.
Let’s get to the more important part.
Onion rings: Amazing! I am not a huge o-​ring person but I thoroughly enjoyed them.
Chili cheese dogs: Good. I will go back to try their specialty dogs to get a better feel of what I may have missed out on.
Overall, I give a solid 4 star rating for customer service, speed, and quality of food. Well worth a try.

OVER A POUND OF MEAT the young man told me lol.
I was looking for some where new to eat and stumbled on top dog. They recommended the bilge pump! (OVER A POUND OF MEAT the young man told me).
I was surprised and said i could use a snack for later. It was BIG!
More a of a meat lovers sandwich.
I didn’t add much toppings cause i wanted to know the taste head on.
But wasn’t disappointed.

Got a Groupon and decided to give it a try. Place is a little dirty not gonna lie. I have celery salt on my butt from the chair I didn’t check before Sitting. Ok so, selections we’re Chicago dog, which is probably their best choice. Very salty and tasty, hot dog was delicious. Comes and bread and butter pickle. And of course salt.
Howies chicken sandwich was ok, the chicken didn’t really have any taste besides the teriyaki sauce. And last but not least the Italian hot meat sandwich which was very good as well. You can order it hot or sweet. Worth the stop if you are in the mood for a quick bite and Seminole sight seeing.

Yummilicious. Lol if that’s even a word. I got the Unilocal deal and bought one Chicago dog and one New York. Both in a gluten free bun. Howie was careful to ask how sensitive I am to gluten and informing me of cross contamination.
Surprisingly the buns are soft and taste like real hot dog buns. I’m happy
