Hung out with Roxy the dog while my car was smogged. Fast service, very helpful, very easy!

Very good experience. The owner was very nice, the smog check was quick and affordable. He offered me coffee and there was a heater on me while I was waiting. He also has the cutest dog who hangs out at the shop. Will recommend and come here again. He also noticed my tires were low and filled them for me!:)

Great place! VERY fast service. The owner, John, did a great job and his little dog kept me company. I was in and out in about 20 mins. Will definitely go back there for future smog checks.

I thought I needed a smog check based on paperwork that I received from the DMV (which I had lost). John was very diligent in checking information about my car and helped me realize that I didn’t actually need a smog check, but just needed to pay a renewal fee. He very easily could have taken advantage of my ignorance and charged me for a smog check anyway and I would not have known. I appreciate his honesty and will definitely return next time I need a smog check or oil change.

These guys are perfect. John is the man. I work in a service industry, and I haven’t been this impressed with the helpfulness, polite manners, and attitudes anywhere else in Davis. I take all my smog needs here.

Went in with my girlfriend yesterday to have our vehicles smog since we were in town visiting family, I Googled this man, read the reviews exactly what we expected, the most best, awesome, service we could have asked for. The man was highly professional, and was quick in and out. From start to finish were there no more than 20 minutes tops. I have self are recommended all my family and friends that live in the area. Wish we had someone like him where I live, but we just might end up taking a trip to get our vehicles smog with him when needed. Great job!

like others have said, you have to work to find this place but i’m glad i did. read all the positive reviews on Unilocal and have brought multiple vehicles here for their smog test. was able to get in and out very quickly. customer service is very important to me and it’s top notch here. the dog is a nice bonus to make the time pass more quickly. they’re going to start doing oil changes and brakes so i’ll know where to go when i need those done.

Had to get my smog done as today was my deadline for dmv and have to say A-​1 really did an awesome job I had one person in front of me and it was close to closing time and they went ahead and took me anyways. Friendly staff… they even offered a free cup of hot coffee. The little things count and they are worth the visit, quick, fast and professional! Good job!

Hard to find this place as it is hidden behind a building but it is worth the visit. Service was excellent. The whole process from beginning to end was 15 minutes. The owner even turned on the portable heater and aimed it towards me to keep me warm as I waited for the smog check to be done. Price is super competitive here with the coupon discount!

Researched all the locations in Davis and the great reviews and ratings matched my experience. Owner was very pleasant. In and out quickly with no appointment.

Went in at around 4pm on a weekday. There were no other cars being serviced, so after a quick filling-​in of paperwork, my car was rolled into the garage and worked on. It lasted about twenty minutes or so, give or take.
While I was waiting, there was a beautiful dog to feed and play with. John was friendly during the process, and it seemed more genuine than trying to keep his business running.
The price was quite reasonable as well. I didn’t even have to show the coupon. He just set the price to the discounted amount from the start.
Great experience. I’ll be back if I’m still around Davis the next time I need a smog check!

Awesome service. The other reviews weren’t lying when they said in and out in 15 minutes. I walked right in and was immediately greeted. The price (for me personally) was kind of expensive but getting slogged in general usually is. It was $ 52. For how quick it took compared to other places was totally worth it. They also had a super adorable, friendly dog that kept me company as I waited. The guy working was very nice and I appreciate him not trying to sell me anything else. He did specifically as I wanted and nothing sketchy! I will totally be coming back again next time!

After having an effortless experience taking my boyfriends car to get smogged at A1, I took my own car in when it was time for a smog.
Unfortunately, my experience has been nothing but a headache. I have an aftermarket air intake installed that John failed me on the visual inspection because he didn’t see the Carb EO sticker (this was the first time I’ve heard of this). Fortunately he didn’t charge me anything as he hadn’t started the actual test.
After being a little pissed, I did some research and found that in this glorious state of CA, you cannot have an aftermarket air intake installed that is not certified by CARB as legal for use in CA. (What a joke). I contacted the manufacturer for a replacement sticker as mine was certified and took it back to A1 thinking things should go smoothly.
Unfortunately again, they didn’t. He looked up the Carb EO number and said my car was not listed. He asked where I’d received my sticker from (a bit accusatory) and I explained directly from the manufacturer after submitting my receipt, VIN number and photos. He said he would not pass me since my car was not on the list and handed me the print out of the CARB EO from California’s ARB site. When I got home I took a look at the list he gave me and my car was right there on page 6. I called John and he responded «That’s why I gave you the paperwork. Bring it back in.»
Safe to say I won’t be. I know John is trying to follow the rules set be this crazy state, but this run around was ridiculous. I never had a single issue at the place I used to take my car in Sac, but it seems to have closed.

I’m new to Davis so I really have to depend on Unilocal to know which places to go for specific purposes. They did not exaggerate when everyone gives it ⁵⁄₅ stars! The service was super friendly and professional, best of all, I was out within 15min!
There is the most adorable dog there that will sit next to you while you wait. Also the price here is the most affordable compared to other places I called. Definitely recommend and I would come again for my next smog check.

Obviously, I agree with everyone else that has written a review about this place. John (the man who did my smog check) was extremely and genuinely friendly. He was very quick with my car and informed me about wait time and what the procedure was for the whole smog check deal. It took him 20 minutes from the moment he took my keys to start and returned them to me after finishing. He made sure I got all my paperwork in order before I left and even opened and closed the door for me upon arriving and leaving! Call me a sucker but that was the cherry on top.
Overall, wonderful service without hassle and very quick. I will definitely do all my smog checks here.

One of the best experiences I’ve ever had with an auto shop. I got a smog check with Jon a couple of weeks ago and he was quick and easy to work with. He fixed a small hose for me FOR FREE and told me that I might need to check my radiator soon. A couple weeks later I bring in my car to Jon to replace the radiator. I figured it would take a couple of days to order the part and replace but Jon finished the job by the end of the day. He also gave me a ride home after I dropped the car off! Very nice guy, and you can tell he’s honest, knowledgeable and hard working. I would definitely come here again if issues arise with my vehicle.
