Dr. Alicia Silva, M.D.(surgeon at Sutter Davis), My daughter saw doctor Silva as a consult in September of 2014. She was sent over there from Pediatrics as a consult at around 9:30AM. The pediatrician wanted her to be seen to make sure she had appendicitis. When she went to see Dr. Silva she(so sick and in a wheel chair) had to wait an hour in the waiting room, after I demanded she be seen, we finally ended up in an exam room to wait again for 25 minutes. Dr. Silva kept seeing her regular non emergent patients before my daughter. She finally came into the exam room thought she was indeed needing surgery but needed to double check that they didn’t do the surgery there.(how do you not know that you are only an adult surgeon??) So we were sent to get labs. We waited for the labs another hour and then back in her waiting room for about 30 more minutes. My daughter was in excruciating pain, and finally when the doctor came in she said she needed to go to Sutter Memorial to get surgery, and that the appendix will not burst in 24 hours so she wasn’t worried. So instead of us just going straight to Sacramento, she wheelchairs my daughter to emergency(4PM) where we did 2 more hours of tests and waiting. My gripe is that she was absolutely wrong and my daughter did burst. The best surgeon around Dr. Greenholtz out of Sacramento did the appendectomy and said he had been waiting for her since 3PM. We didn’t get there until almost 7PM. When he came out of surgery he said that she had burst and it probably happened in the late morning. I think Dr. Silva and her group really failed my daughter and the bummer part is they admitted this to me numerous times. My daughter incurred days of pain and suffering(not able to eat for four days) and in the hospital for a lengthy stay. I still have thousands of dollars in medical bills to pay for this horrendous day. I called billing and discussed this with them, I shouldn’t have to pay a dime for their fault. They don’t see anything wrong with these bills I need to pay. My daughter ended up staying in the hospital for 5 ½ days, instead of an overnight stay for a regular appendectomy. Bottom line, she put my daughter in a very dangerous situation and didn’t get her to the right place till 7 hours after she was initially seen. Not effective. Not right.
