Super cool shop! Lots of variety! Very clean & organized.

Loved the selection of classic vinyls. Owner was very helpful. Says timing is everything. Purchased entire collection of Ol’ Blue Eyes/​Frank Sinatra for my Dad. Owner gave me additional 10% off. Definitely will return and recommend to other classic music lovers like me.

As you probably know when I visited Davis, I was pretty charmed by the feeling of the downtown area. Everything is so small, feels really local and effortlessly authentic for the most part– and the Armadillo is definitely a place that epitomizes that feel.
Inside, there is this cute little display with some fake armadillo figurines and A BILLION CDS, VINYLS, AND DISCS EVERYWHERE! Never really being in a music store like this, I was really taken aback and spent a good while in here just soaking in the hipster feels. I was really impressed by their ginormous collection of different genre of music– from classical to blues and contemporary. Then there was the CHEAP DVDs (from WHOLE series collections from the movies that were just a few years old– my friend totally picked up the complete Bourne series.) as well as these really cute CD coasters, which are repurposed discs that can no longer play but HEY it can look dang good underneath a cup of coffee (insta-​worthy!)
Totally worth the check out if you are in the area. :D It charmed me!

I’m not from the Davis area, and where I live we don’t have really good record stores, so when my friend and I drove by we knew we had to stop by this place. First off I was really impressed by all the deals they were having, and I also really liked the atmosphere there. But what really made my experience at Armadillo wonderful was the worker there (I think her name was Vanessa?) not only was she super sweet and super helpful, it seemed like she really knew what she was talking about when I asked her about different CDs/​vinyls. She kept my friend and I informed about the deals and promotions that was going on and also answered all of our questions. My friend and I ended up leaving with a few gems in our hands! The next time we make the drive out here we’ll be sure to stop by Armadillo again, and hopefully we’ll be greeted by the same awesome worker again!!! Thank you Vanessa!

What a great record store! They have a decent selection of both new and used vinyl to dig through, but the best part is how sweet and friendly the girl working here was. You don’t get that kind of customer service in record stores often, but she made it a really pleasant experience. She informed me of the Sunday sale on used vinyl (30% off, don’t mind if I do!) plus she got me set up with a frequent shopper card. Ended up walking out with some great finds, and I will definitely be back any time I’m in the area!

Their new location is the best & they put on the best vinyl fair in NorCal about twice a year. I like going in during normal business hours M-​F to talk with Paul. He knows his stuff. Tickets, local music, records, DVD’s, CD’s & even old beer signs along the stairs. This place is great.

Paul is amazingly knowledgeable. Haven’t encounter all the employees, but the few I have seen are all nice people. Whether you’ve got 10 cts or hundreds, you can stretch it here for some beautiful art.

I absolutely love Armadillo’s new location! I visited them a few times last year at their old location and it would definitely get a bit crowded in there — especially weekends. This relatively new location is much more accommodating.
I own several used CD’s from Armadillo’s that I’ve bought for listening in the car for my road trips back home. Used CD’s usually range from $ 6.98 to $ 7.98. Their music is very well organized which I really appreciate and if you can’t find something, I’ve almost always been approached before I have the chance to ask for help. Super nice guys!
What I really like is that if you are looking for something in particular that they don’t have at the moment, they can look up if they’ve bought music by the artist in the past. I did this for a favorite artist of mine and left my name and phone number with them so I could be notified if anything came in by the artist. Got so lucky this past week — Paul called me that a CD by Manu Chao came in! Lucky me ;-) They do 24 hr holds so I was able to swing by later that day to listen to it at one of the three listening stations.
Love all the cool Armadillo gear (zip ups, t-​shirts, etc.), the armadillos around the store, and the cool buttons and coasters made out of vinyl CD’s they sell by the register. Armadillo Music rocks my socks, you should definitely check them out!

Finally went back and bought some records here, loved it! The store associate was very helpful and knowledgeable, they had what I wanted and he explained how I could sign up for email coupons and Facebook announcements. Will be back :)

The new location is a nice little upgrade from the previous spot next door. Now a little bigger, but not not big that it loses its intimacy. It actually looks like theres space for events like in store signings or shows. The best part is there’s a bargain bin for CDs and their movie/​TV DVD collection is growing.

This is one of the best record stores that I’ve ever been to. It’s small, but the people who work there are really helpful and knowledgeable. The discount racks are the best because the CDs there are REALLY cheap. Once in a while they’ll put the clearance on half off, so they become, like, 99-​cents each.
If you really like 90s music, this is a great place to go because that’s the stuff that usually gets binned. Found treasures here like early eurodance, Hilary Duff’s Christmas album, S Club 7, Lisa Loeb… all of which I plan to listen to IRONICALLY, of course.
I like that they let you listen to the CDs too. Also, one time I accidentally left the CD I was listening to in the machine when I bought the album. I called them immediately and was like, «HEY, SO TOTAL BLONDE MOMENT, BUT…»
They held the CD for me and I was able to pick it up the next day. Awesome.

Classic old record store thats part of a dieing breed. Its kind of sweet walking into this place and looking at all of the records. Shows the difference between album covers of today vs 30+ years ago. Staff is friendly and helpful as well.

Great selection, good place to get tickets. The problem I have is that usually if I find a CD I’m looking for, it costs a few bucks more than I’d like to pay. But all around a good record store, it’s nice to have it in Davis.

This is basically a ‘first impressions’ review. I’m not a local, but if there’s vinyl being sold around the corner, I’m there.
It may be a small record shop, but I’ve found some great gems in this store. I like various types of music, but my music taste has been tailored to a more specific sound that has grown so much stronger for ska-​punk/​crust punk/​punk/​psychobilly etc. I’ve loved Tiger Army, Anti-​Schism, and Choking Victim ever since I was fifteen. Nowadays, I listen more to Subhumans, Bad Manners, Madness, Citizen Fish, blah blah blah… Anyways, this record shop has a pretty impressive selection of the mentioned genres compared to Rasputin’s on Powell St. in San Francisco (I DESPISE THAT SPECIFIC RASPUTIN’S). Just by looking through the cd bins, I’ve found more bands to grow my music collection to the genres I had such a hard time looking for during high school.
Plus, they sell local art work, endless Culture Club pins, iconic records perched on the top shelf surrounding the store, some posters shoved in a tiny corner, and d.i.y. vinyl coasters.
I was pleasantly surprised.

NICELY ORGANIZED:
–All CD Media is protected and behind the counter. Cover is only available and provides all basic album info.
–A few labels recommend related artists which is nice for a music fiend.
–A few labels mention related record companies I believe… it’s lovely. (I’m a fan of Two-​Tone Records, Hellcat Records, Dischord Records.)

Somewhat overpriced (CDs that cost $ 14? The Cramps’ Bad Music for Bad People is a great album… but it’s a cd… welp, whatever a record store needs to do to keep the lights on and function.)
Vinyl crates could be more organized, but that’s the mystery behind a vinyl crate, you’ll never know what you’ll find…
So basically I kind of justified my cons.ahah.

A cool little independant CD shop. But it’s so small, that the selection is limited. It’d be hard to come in looking for something specific — much better to browse around and hopefully uncover a few cheap finds. They also have cassettes, DVDs, incense, and other stuff!
Staff is nice, and they have live music sometimes. If you like local CD shops, support this place!

Yes, it’s small and a little down at heel. This is one of my favorite CD spots, mostly because you can find the oddest things if you look. Because of the university, there are lots of different used international cds, and plenty of other stuff that is mostly the result of the large population of students in Davis. The staff is very knowledgeable, and will take the time to help you find and/​or order what you want. Also a great local place to buy tickets. Nuff said.

I love Armadillo. I’ve been coming here for a long, long time. Well, since the mid nineties, if that counts for a long, long time.
To me, this is what music is all about. People who love music for music’s sake. Not a big box retail store, but running a store because you love music and community. I’ll always shop here to support this store and the community.
Nice employees. Great selection of music. Local tickets. Doesn’t get any better…

Every time I go inside the employees have been very helpful by helping me find music and giving suggestions of bands in same genre.

This place honestly doesn’t have the best selection. It was okay. At least everything is alphabetized and that’s good. The prices seemed a bit high for some of the items, but that’s okay considering it’s a small store.
