This medical practice specializes in comprehensive foot and ankle care. We treat a wide range of foot and ankle problems, everything from ingrown nails and nail trimming to heal pain, but it’s, neuroma, forefoot and metatarsalgia. We specialize in diabetic care, including amputation prevention. We perform reconstructive foot and ankle surgery. We perform flatfoot reconstruction. We also operate a neuropathy center perform comprehensive lower extremity neurological assessment and treatment for advanced, recalcitrant neuropathy symptoms. We have in office x-ray, laser therapy, vascular testing, neurologic testing, ultrasound imaging for musculoskeletal pathology, as well as advanced treatment such as PRP injections for hard to treat heel pain and Achilles pain.

Established in 1991.

Dr. Basso is certified by the American Board of podiatric surgery and the American Board of podiatric orthopedics. He is a fellow of the American college of foot and ankle surgeons, a fellow of the American college of foot and ankle orthopedics and medicine, and a fellow of the Association for extremity nerve surgeons. Dr. Basso performs advanced peripheral nerve surgery for neuropathy. He is a past president of the California Podiatric Medical Association, and served on advisory board to the California school podiatric medicine at Samuel Merritt University from 2002 to 2012. He currently is a delegate to the American Podiatric Medical Association and is a member of the public health committee within APMA.

Dr. Basso studied physiology at UC Davis. He graduated from California College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco in 1988. He then went to Dallas, Texas to complete his residency in podiatric foot and ankle surgery. He was certified by the American Board of podiatric orthopedics and medicine in 1993 and then certified by the American Board of podiatric surgery in 1997. He is a fellow of the American college of foot and ankle orthopedics and medicine and a fellow of the American college of foot and ankle surgery. He is trained in advanced techniques in peripheral nerve surgery for the treatment of neuropathy and recalcitrant pain syndromes. He is a fellow of the Association for extremity nerve surgeons.

Dr. Basso has been active in the Association. Served on the Board of Directors for the California podiatric medical Association from 1998 to 2008. He served as president of the California podiatric medical Association from 2005 to 2006.

I was referred to Dr. Basso in April of 2015, when I began developing a sharp pain on the bottom of my feet. On my first appointment, not only did the staff take x-rays of my feet but I was evaluated by Dr. Basso. As it turns out the pain was due to my flat feet. Since I had been using orthotics for years, it never occurred to me that my feet were in fact getting worst.
After the evaluation, Dr. Basso explained to me the x-rays, how my feet were affecting my walking, balance and how they were causing the new pain I was experiencing. After listening to my options and his advice, I decided to move forward with surgery. I had my right foot undergo surgery in June 2015, and it was a success (I was walking 6 weeks later). November 2015, I had surgery on my left foot. Once again, it was a success and began walking on my boot 6 weeks later. For someone who had never had a surgical procedure done before, I am glad to have been referred to Dr. Basso. He made the procedure less scary and having regular follow-ups, assured me that my recovery was on the correct path. Overall, I am extremely happy with his care.

Dr. Basso work on my toenails that got funky after years of endurance running and training. Eventually he removed two nails — my big toes.
What I liked: He kept appointment times, was personable, and the procedures worked.
What could be better: The office feels like a little dark, and the staff is professional but not the most chipper.

I’ve been seeing Dr Basso intermittently since 2011, totaling three times (three separate issues.) Each time he has done perfect work, which has healed up nicely, and I haven’t had pain since. I visited him on my vacation back here because I needed something done and trusted him to do it right, which again, he has. Couldn’t be happier and my feet are not in pain anymore!

I am 5 days post op for bunion surgery. Before my surgery I had Googled all kind of information about bunion surgery and I was so freaked out. Once I met with Dr. basso and he went over my procedure, recovery, and what I would expect it went as he stated. I had NO pain! Get this NO pain! I only had to take one Norco pill and it was only because the nurse at the surgery center asked me to just in case I experienced pain after the anesthesia wore out. I went in for my post of today and my foot is healing just fine. dr. Basso is awesome and I am definitely doing my second foot. He has such An awesome sense of humor and the sweetest doc ever. He knows how to make you feel at ease. His staff is Great! Lety and Terry at the front office are so sweet and kind and are always super helpful. dr. Basso def gets five stars plus.

I was referred to Dr. Basso by a friend who is a physician. I went here with worries of surgery, or some other very expensive treatment, after talking to another doctor about my foot. I did not feel confident with the care from another facility, so I went to Dr. Basso for an EXPERT opinion.
He took the time to talk with me, examine me thoroughly, review my medical records, then gave me my options and his recommendations. In this time of rushed cookie cutter medical care, I really appreciate the time Dr. Basso took to ACCURATELY DIAGNOSE my medical condition and thoroughly treat it. I’m 90% recovered and well on my way to 100%. The all of his staff are friendly, professional and helpful. I am really happy with my treatment and the overall experience.

I have been seeing Dr. Basso for three months for severe pain in my left foot. On first visit they took x rays and did not look at x ray ordered by my primary care doctor. After a very quick look at the films he told me I had tendonitis from flat feet. He suggested a cortisone shot (which I got) and then orthotics. The shot did not help at all. Had to wait three weeks, in pain, for plaster molds for the orthotics so they could contact my insurance company. When I came in, after three weeks, they still had not finalized with my insurance company. They told me I had to pay the highest co pay before they could start the inserts. I paid it-what option did I have? Now I waited another three weeks to get them, pain is escalating. Finally got them. Wore them every day, no improvement, for two weeks. Went back for check up. I told him I was not improving. Now he says it could take 1 – 2 months to work, first I heard of that. Also, brought up laser treatment, not covered by any insurance, which is pricey and a temporary fix if it works. Told him I couldn’t afford that. Made another appointment for one month to discuss laser, didn’t he hear me? Went to my primary care doctor a week later. I was still wearing orthotics and still no relief. I told her I felt I was not getting any help from Dr. Basso. She suggested a MRI on my foot after she looked at it. I had the MRI. It showed the tendinitis he diagnosed but also showed arthritis and plantar fascitis. How did he miss those two things? I am currently finding a new podiatrist, hopefully one who will listen to what I say and can find a course of action that can give me some relief. I have already wasted 3 months. :(

The care was good, just a few things that I found a bit odd:
First, this office looks like it hasn’t been renovated since the 1980s and it’s a grossly stereotypical doctor’s office: Male doctor with all female staff.
Second, I had to wait 45 minutes for my first appointment. Annoying!
Third, after I had a wart removed, they scheduled 2 check-ups. For my first check up, I had no copay — great! But, when I went in for the 2^nd check-up, they told me that there was a copay ($ 25)! The receptionist said that the copay is waived for 10 days after the surgery, but my second check-up was schedule 13 days after the surgery. I just found it odd that they suggested an appointment time outside the range of the free check-up without telling me about it beforehand. Not the biggest deal in the world, but again — it’s not right to keep patients in the dark.

I was told by my Internist that I had plantar fasciitis and should see a podiatrist. I actually called dr McDowell on Coyle ave in Carmichael but was told the first available appointment was the following week but could see Dr Basso who comes to this office a few times a week. So, the next day I was seen by Dr Basso. Within a few minutes he diagnosed me and said I didn’t have plantar fasciitis but needed an imaging scan on my right leg which he set up with the RAS imaging center downstairs (this is the St George Medical Center). The scan showed that I had a DVT (blood clot) in my leg. I was sent back up to see Dr Basso and was told to go directly to the ER! So — I’m pretty sure Dr Basso’s quick diagnosis saved my life. A later CT scan at the hospital showed that I also had a pulmonary embolism (blood clots in my lungs). Five stars for Dr Basso!

Dr. Basso has twice performed surgery on me. There were problems both times. The second, far more serious than the first, required repair surgery which I had done by another doctor. I agree with the prior post to some extent about the office. I would never refer anyone to Dr. Basso.

I saw Dr. Basso once for Pinpoint laser treatment and twice for follow-ups. I walked out of his waiting room on my 4^th visit, during which I intended to have a 2^nd laser treatment. On every visit, Dr. Basso was late. For my initial appointment, he was over 35 mins late and I was the 1^st patient of the day; the morning I walked out, there was a patient in front of me and the doctor was already 20 mins late at 9:40. Dr. Basso is a charming person, and I don’t doubt his medical skill or knowledge, which is why I returned 3 times. My complaint is with his untimeliness, the curtness of his office staff with one another (!), and the outdated/seemingly unhygienic condition of the facility itself. (All the time I spent waiting gave me the opportunity to observe my surroundings.) I don’t expect all medical facilities to be state of the art, especially in this economy, but elbow grease and equipment maintenance are close to free: once, the exam chair was broken, and twice the computer protested. Sadly for me, the pricey Pinpoint laser treatment did not resolve my problem, which I do not attribute to ineptitude on Dr. Basso’s behalf, but I won’t spend my time or money in his office if I try the treatment again.
