Ground Zero Clothing & Board Shop

Called on the phone to ask about a specific item. The sales representative who answered (not sure his name) was not only not helpful, but when I asked him where I could find the part I’m looking for he said (in a couldn’t-care-less tone), «yeah, ummm… I don’t know». I got the feeling that I was somehow bothering him by even asking or somehow wasting his time… It was quite shocking to me, especially since this is a locally-​owned business (as far as I know) and not a large corporation.
Maybe I just have high standards for customer service (especially for mom-​and-​pop stores), but if you don’t know, then you either ASK someone else in the shop, or recommend another store that might know. If all else fails and you really have no idea, a nice, «I’m really sorry, ma’am, but I really am at a loss for any input on that.» Anyway, to me customer service is the most important reason to frequent a business (maybe second to quality), so I will not be shopping here for anything I may need in the future.
Taking my money elsewhere…

Came for a face mask and gloves to keep me warm while biking on chilly nights. Found just what I needed. Helpful staff and the shop seemed to have sale prices on many items.

Ground Zero has a great selection on new items. There’s a lot of snow gear, snowboarding gear, skateboards, men’s and women’s skate shoes, a wall of Vans, and a lot of Toms. They also recently got a larger selection of new bathing suits, too. Items like Obey, Volcom, Quiksilver, Roxy, and many others are often on sale on their sale rack. They always have a sale rack with some pretty good marked down prices. I love their selection of Toms. I think they have a larger supply of men’s clothing and accessories than women’s. The staff is super friendly and always asking if I need help finding anything. You can rent gear for snowboarding I’m pretty sure too. This is pretty much the only place in Davis I shop at with new trends and clothing I could actually wear! Keep ‘em in business and shop here!

I like this shop. This is where I got my snowboard set up and I love it! The staff is friendly and knowledgeable in helping you choose the right gear for your skill level and needs.
They have great selection in terms for women’s clothing. I guess it was my misconception of thinking that the merchandises are over priced. But I did some research and with the free lift ticket you can’t beat the price.
they also have a store in Sacramento. I am happy that this shop is still around.

Knowledgable and kind staff members; great items; occasional groupon promo’s — all with still maintaining the feel of a smaller «mom and pop» store.
The BF and I usually go to Ground Zero for their Winter Items and have come here from getting our boards tuned up and picking up some gear to just browsing and asking questions. We were just here a few days ago and were surprised that ALL snow gear was 40% — including boards! Even though we already have a few sets, this tempted us to think about purchasing another. So tempting.
I’ve even picked up a few misc. clothing items for myself from Ground Zero as well (a few cute summer tops). They also sell Toms (flats and wedges) and bathing suits.

I loved this shop as a student and again even more as a visiting alum.
The staff here are always helpful and are generally snowboarders or skaters themselves. I like that a lot about the staff. It lends really well to the college town atmosphere here. There have been some significant changes to the shop since I was a student at UCD. They now sell a lot of clothes and shoes. They have before, but it seems like the stock of snowboarding equipment especially has taken a dive. There really isn’t a whole lot to look at even at a peak time in the season.
But the staff there are great and are willing to help out as much as they can. My buddy was looking for a specific board and they offered to have it in the store in a few days. I like that the staff knew enough about other things not in stock and knew they could get it relatively quickly.
I rented from Ground Zero in my last trip to Tahoe this season and the equipment was alright. They take care of their stuff, but rental boards will always be sub-​performers. The rental prices are crazy good though. You can’t go wrong here.
They also carry Toms!

Had 2 really good experiences here in the past few days worth sharing.
Their hours (11 – 8 every day except Sunday they close at 7) make perfect sense, you can find time to go if you have school or work or both and they’re open 7 days a week.
I didn’t get the name of the girl in glasses who helped me out but she was informative and patient with my questions about longboard wheels and bearings. She gave me suggestions, prices, and her own preferences, so I had a lot to consider.
Just today I went in with my board this time and was helped by her again. She showed me different sets of wheels — they can sell you any of the wheels on the boards on the floor, not just the ones in the glass case. After picking bearings and wheels, she installed everything and gave me my old bearings back and then offered to buy my old wheels from me so she can try them out on her own board.
Quality Orangatangs and Bones Redz for $ 72 after selling the girl my old wheels (would’ve been about $ 85 after tax had she not bought them from me).
I’ve given minus stars for stores that charge substantially more than the price I can get other places i.e. Amazon; not the case here, the prices I saw on all of their boards, wheels, bearings, trucks etc. were comparable to Amazon.
Overall two good experiences and I’ll be back if I’m making board upgrades of any kind.

Very helpful staff. Went in for some basic black Reefs and they were out of my size in the style I wanted, but they had enough other styles that I wasn’t disappointed and still walked out with a pair of sandals. The employee offered to order me a pair of the ones I wanted, which I appreciate way more than a shrug and a, «Guess we’re out.» I’m glad I checked them out.

This Ground Zero is okay.
The workers were nice but they lacked the sizes I needed. Most of the Men’s t-​shirt sizes were gone (M-​L). They did have a sale when my boyfriend and I came here (buy 3 get 1 free) on shirts. We bought Diamond and The Hundreds shirts for a reasonable price. No one was shopping during the time I went.

I bought Toms shoes here recently but I had to go in on 3 separate times since they sell out so quickly! I even put my name on a list to be contacted when they got a new shipment in, but never received a call.
The 3^rd time was a charm though! I happend to luck out because they literally just got a shipment in and had boxes all over the stores filled with Toms shoes. The staff let me rummage through the boxes until I found a perfect pair. super cute and super comfortable!

When I was still in school, this was my go-​to place to get anything and everything for my longboards. Actually, I got my first born (GFH Penny) and my third (Arbor Bug Bamboo) plus various upgrades at this location.
First of all, When you walk in, you automatically feel at home. All the employees here are so down-​to-​earth, helpful, and friendly. They are also very knowledgeable about their gear. When I would ask questions, they went above and beyond to answer every single question I had.
I got my first board from Carlos (who no longer works there I think) and he was amazing. He recognized me by face every time I went in and asked how my particular boards were for me. Kind of reminded me of a younger cooler Mr. Olivander from the Harry Potter series but with longboards.
I got my third board from a blond younger guy with a unique name (I forgot his name! Sorry!) and he was really cool to work with.
They are great at helping you pick out certain upgrades for your board and will assemble it for you in the store too.
Oh! If you want to customize a complete deck with different trucks or whatever, you can. They will just ask you to pay the difference by piece.
They really are an amazing bunch of people. They also seem to work very well together. Whoever is managing this store– you are doing a wonderful job and keep up the good work. I went to two other locations and this one is really the best one. I will come back when I am in the area to pick up some gear and accessories. Thanks!

Ground zero is the only skate shop in Davis and has an extensive selection of apparel as well. The staff is always friendly and chill. I like to browse this place whenever I’m bored. They had the $ 15 for $ 30 groupon a while back and I hope they”ll provide the deal again. I purchased a couple of shirts and sunglasses here and was always satisfied. They’re not overpriced and offers to match any other price.

My daughter built her own long board and needed the hardware for it. I called around from Benicia to Elk Grove and over the phone these people were the friendliest even with my stupid questions. I dropped in as I was driving buy and the instore service was as good as what I got on the phone. I also got to watch other customers get just as good, honest customer service — plus they were friendly and didn’t hurt my eyes and wanted to help me.
Not sure when but I’ll be back and happy to spend my money there.

This is THE go to boardshop here in Davis. The staff here is very friendly and helpful, and have become friends of mine as I frequent the shop to check out new gear and hang out. They have built snowboard set ups for me and my friends and are well aware of your skill level and your style of riding. They are well aware of their target demographic, which are beginner to intermediate riders. When I was trying to look for more specific gear, they gladly pointed me to other boardshops in the Sacramento as well as Tahoe area where I might find those upgrades I wanted. Even now when I no longer live in Davis, I still drop by Ground Zero on my way up to Tahoe.

This is a pretty good board shop. I stopped by when visiting Davis Sushi House and found the perfect snowboard bag. The price was awesome and the staff was very friendly and helpful.

I took a day trip to Davis last summer just to come here and buy my snowboarding gear. I heard they had the best stuff around and it’s all buy 1, get 1 free. So, my cousin and I got Burton boards, K2 bindings, and boots with no laces. Everything was top quality and good. We spent about 2 hours here picking stuff out and trying everything. The guy that helped us was really helpful and stayed past his shift to help us out.
I decided last minute to get another set of bindings after I paid while they were installing them onto my board. The guy was nice enough to exchange it and he understood, they didn’t really match my board.
The downside is I bought gloves and socks here, they were kinda pricey. I felt like I got gypped when I just bought 10 pairs of burton socks from SierraSnowboard for $ 2/​a pair and nice burton gloves for $ 18.

I really like this place. In fact I was just there today getting some cheap snowboarding bags and snowboarding equipment to get ready for the season. They have very reasonable prices for snowboarding equipment compared to some of the online shops I’ve seen although I’ve never bought a snowboard there.
They do have off season stuff for ridiculously cheap. Usually all prior season items are buy 1 get 1 free and sometimes current season items are buy 1 get 1 half off. You really can’t beat the kind of deals they have when you look at the prices and you can get an extremely good snowboard for $ 150 — $ 200 which is normally $ 400+.

Wow! I’m suprised that not a lot of people have reviewed this place. It’s always packed whenever I walk in here.
they’ve got a really good selection of merchandise here. I especially love their sale table and sale bin. I found my Roxy duffle bag for $ 15.99 and it was originally $ 59.99. I’ve also bought some limited edition vans for my brother, a Roxy scarf for $ 7.99 and the bf has purchased a handful of shirts from here.
whenever i’m in davis, I always make a stop here.
the reason for 1 less star… service isn’t great at all. They don’t even greet you hello.

So I guess I“m a bit old to be in this store?
Wait was I wearing my super special retail camo?
The few times I’ve been here I’ve not once been greeted by the employees here.
I’m sure I could have walked with a new board if I were so inclined.
Thats right I could have bought the cool ass arbor long board,
or just as easily shoplifted the thing.
