James Free Jewelers

Wish I could give James Free Jewelers a fantastic review. My husband and I approached them about making a custom ring, they talked us through the process and based on what they said we expected to hear back from them in a few days to see the initial design.
Two weeks later we still had not heard back so we called them only to be told they had not written down the information they needed to design the ring, we supplied them with that information and returned to the store to followup and basically start the whole process again. We made sure they had all available email addresses and phone numbers so that there was no possibility that they could not reach us. We were again told that they would contact us in a couple of days.
It has now been over 5 weeks since we first spoke with them and still no communication from them. We can only conclude they do not need our business. And I can assure you I have given up the idea of working with them when they have proven themselves to be so unprofessional.
Dec 29^th 2015 Update. We were contacted by the owner who seemed very distressed to learn about our experience and we went into the store on Dec 19^th and spoke with him face to face he had rough mock-​up of the ring for us to see and a price. I expressed some concern over the design and asked for a cad drawing (which is part of the normal process) so that we would be comfortable proceeding, but once again nothing happened. I have finally come to the conclusion that the ring I want is beyond their abilities to produce. I just wish someone had been upfront with me about that it would have saved us a lot of time and disappointment.
BTW from speaking with others it seems James Free is a perfectly wonderful place to purchase already made jewelry. However they actively advertise custom which is why we went there in the first place but in our case it did not work out.

I’ve had multiple phenomenal experiences at James Free Jewelers! I bought my fiancé’s engagement ring there and our sales representative, Sarah Short, educated me on everything about Diamonds and gave me multiple free beers as well!!! This is the only place that I’ve seen in Dayton where you can purchase loose diamonds and really customize your ring to your budget and specifications. Sarah was extremely patient and allowed me to make my selections and followed up with me just enough with emails. She also helped me keep it a secret from my fiancé by sending the follow up info to a friend of mine. My fiancé absolutely LOVES the ring and has gotten nothing but compliments on her ring since she’s gotten it!
Since proposing, I’ve been back to follow up with Sarah and give her the good news & they let me bring my dog in and gave me a couple extra brews for my trouble!
Now we’re shopping for wedding bands and we had such a great experience that we went back to James Free and got a great deal from our favorite sales representative, Sarah. Everyone else has been extremely friendly as well. One of the other representatives gave us recommendations on winter snow tires and a frequent flyer card for a car wash place that already had punches on it! They’ve truly gone above and beyond throughout the process and we have gotten amazing quality rings that we are both happy with. However, they also have an awesome selection of watches, diamonds, earrings, necklaces and anything else you need. We truly recommend James Free Jewelers & can’t wait to wear our wedding bands!

For three generations, James Free has been my family’s go-​to jeweler. I don’t even live in Dayton but I still go to James Free for my fine jewelry. Michael Karaman and his staff are dynamite.

Buyer beware. The prices are marked way up, but they will give you a «good price». Not. I traded a two tone rolex in for a new two tone rolex. When it was all said and done, I paid full retail for the rolex, and they basically stole my other rolex that I was «trading». Rip off store. I will never return. I am also going to contact rolex about them. I did not know the current rolex prices before making the purchase/​trade. I do now.
