Well my family and I have frequented this restaurant 3 different times with another couple at minimum and with plenty of family 2 other times… This has been done over the last 9 months. I will have to say that ALL3 times we have went for dinner and ALL3 times there has not been one complaint about the food. It has been above board, the chef/s definitely take pride in the food they put out and do not treat their kitchen like short order line cooks. The quality of freshness, flavor have been a perfect 3 out of 3! We look forward to visiting again soon!

Nice atmosphere in town. Pros — Live entertainment was a nice touch, if a bit loud. The asparagus soup was amazing, and the pasta portions were generous. The waitress was very, very kind to us and our daughter(she complimented her on how she used her napkin like a pro), and our daughter liked the house soup so much she asked for more, «pretty pleeease» even. She doesn’t usually even eat a quarter of a kids meal, let alone an entire bowl of soup. She was tickled pink when the waitress brought her extra soup was in a bowl«just her size!» She still talks about it, two weeks later, which is an eternity for a four-year old. Cons — Be sure to ask for more bread, because the one piece served with your pasta isn’t near enough. It’s excellent. Pay extra if you have to, though I don’t think you should have to. The older blonde hostess was snide when asking if we had a reservation, and oh, well, we can seat you here in the front… Suggestion? Honey, lose the attitude. We drove all the way up from Vegas that morning, were hungry, and picked your restaurant instead of some little diner or fast food joint. It was a Friday; I wouldn’t have minded waiting a little while for a table. Or… suggest reservations *everywhere* on the website maybe? Or was the attitude because I had a child in tow??? There *is* a children’s section on the menu. I suppose I should be thankful the hostess found an old used coloring book and some crayons for my daughter to entertain herself with. The food was excellent. I strongly recommend it if you are anywhere nearby to visit. Come hungry.

I was impressed the first time I ate here and now, after many dinners, this is still one of my favorite places. I love the atmosphere and the staff have a knack for making us feel like they actually like us as customers as opposed to many restaurants in the area where serving customers seems like a burden to the staff! Love the chicken piccata and the house salad with creamy gorgonzola dressing. The portions are big enough that I usually take half my dinner home. The specialty martinis are very yummy! Most times I have my children with me and we love sitting in the high tables at the front of the restaurant.

I had the pleasure of dining at this fine establishment while visiting my friend in Silver City. ABSOLUTELYFABULOUS! We ordered J’s filet mignon. Requested medium and it came with a perfect solid red center. It was topped with a bacon marmalade and literally melted in your mouth. I don’t think I have had a meal this good in more than five years. It wasn’t just the filet. Chris, the bartender made THE best Raspberry Lemon Drop Martini. The atmosphere was rustic, warm and quaint. The service was fantastic, the meal perfection and the cocktails fabulous. Highly recommend this great bistro.

Went the for the first time on Friday night. I live in Carson but we were so excited to try this place that we made the trek out to Dayton to check it out. We weren’t disappointed. :) First of all, it takes like no time to get there from Carson. I was anticipating a long drive, but I guess it’s just been a while since I’ve been to Dayton. The area of town it’s located in is really historic so we spent some time walking around and looking at the old buildings. And, the atmosphere in the restaurant is awesome. There was live music. And the bartender was on it. Friendly and fast. I ate the eggplant parm, it was delish. I loved the side of green beans; they were cooked and seasoned perfectly. I’d definitely go here again. And, you should too!

The food is really good and the staff are so friendly. Enjoy everything I’ve ever ordered and try to save room for dessert… the crème brulee is exceptionally delicious! J’s is just a short block off of Hwy 50 at the stoplight and you will find yourself surrounded by old town Dayton. Great place to take out-of-town guests.

This is the restaurant that we use as a baseline for all other Italian restaurants. The décor is awesome, the staff are super nice, and the food is simple to die for. They have a top notch bar and make some killer martinis. We eat here as often as we can. The history of the building and the bar is facilitating. Who knew such an amazing place existed out here in Dayton. It definitely brings the Dayton community up a notch in my book. If you are anywhere near this place, you must go in and try it out. Yummmy!

We love this place. Delicious food, great service, and the best bar service we have encountered in the area. If you sign up for their email notices you find out what the weekly special are going to be. The live music is very enjoyable, the prices are reasonable, and it is a friendly, comfortable restaurant in historic downtown Dayton.

Four of us had dinner. The food which was the halibut special, pasta with shrimp and scallops, and steak. All the meals were served hot and were very good. The waitress was excellent in all respects. The appetizers were hot and very tasty. The drinks including the wine were good. Our best meal here so far.

Our favorite when we are here. We have a 2nd home in the area and hit Jay’s every time we are in town, sometimes twice during that time. You can’t go wrong!

Very disappointing. My wife & I decided to try the bruschetta appetizer and when I picked it up to take a bite everything fell off the bread onto the table. Maybe a little cheese to hold it together or warn people to eat it with a knife and fork. Either way it wasn’t very good. My wife ordered the veal marsala and I had the chicken picatta. Both proteins were covered in some kind of sauted flour that had a bad texture not francese style just mushy. I ate it but it was pretty bad and they hardly give you any pasta with it. I mean for the price they charge you should get a full plate of pasta. Pasta is cheap so just give a full plate of pasta, customers coming in hungry is one thing but leaving hungry is unacceptable. There were hardly any mushrooms on my wife’s marsala and there were way too many capers on my picatta. Oh and you get one piece of bread, an Italian restaurant and you get one piece of bread. Really? When I left this place I thought it wasn’t very good but as I’m writing I’m realizing it was terrible. Just really bad Italian food. The place was clean and the bar was nice so if you want to have a drink this place might be sufficient. Obviously we won’t be going back.

Wow — hubby and I had a wonderful Valentine dinner at J’s. Arrived early and table was ready but chose to have cocktails at the bar — visited with Jerry, owner and bartender. After cocktails, Jackie, owner, sat us at a beautiful table by the fireplace.. We had the Surf and Turf — fabulous, especially the filet prepared by Ken, our chef. It was very busy as expected on Valentine but the quality of both food and service was consistent as always. We cannot recommend J’s enough!

What a disappointment tonight. This is my second time here. My first experience was so good that I couldn’t wait to return. But tonight changed everything. My husband, another couple and I had a reservation at 8. We got seated minutes later. At our table we had one menu to share among us. Then it took the waitress 15 mins to acknowledge we were there. It was another 10+ mins before we got our drinks: 2 waters, a Samuel Adams and an Arnold Palmer. While waiting, our friends saw their friends walked in to be seated(keep in mind this is 20 mins after we got seated). Another 15 mins go by before the waitress finally get back to us to take our orders…4 entrees and an antipasto platter appetizer consisted of 6 half sliced toasted bread, salami, prosciutto, olives, wax pepper and cubed cheese. 20 mins rolls by and by this time our glasses are pretty much empty and we’re staring at each other wondering where’s our food. The appetizer finally arrived and it wasn’t. another 20+ mins before our entrees show up. It was then our friend told my husband and I that we’ve been there for an hour and a half. I knew we were there for a long time, but it didn’t dawn on me we’ve been there for over an hour. At this point, my husband calls the server over and ask to speak with the manager. Manager shows up and ask. Manager: Is everything alright? My husband: Actually no. Are you really busy tonight? Manager: Yea we are… Its Valentines Day.(The way he said it was like as if we just came out of the caves and had no idea its Valentine’s day. And clearly we could see the restaurant wasn’t fully packed. We know what a fully packed restaurant look like considering some of us had worked in restaurants before. There were a few tables here and there empty.) Long pause from all of us not knowing how to reply to that/after the disbelief of what manager just said. My husband: You see the table over there?(our friends’ friend table).they sat down 20 mins after us. You see what’s on the table… doggy bags. And we just got our food. Manager: I’m sorry about that. Let me find out from your server what’s going on. He comes back mins later almost too proud with confident. and said. Manager: Oh I know what the problem was. First of all, you guys ordered an appetizer(we think as soon as he heard himself say that, he realized how stupid he sounded and added).but that’s not the main reason. The reason was the cooks– didn’t like how his burger turned out so they have to make it again.(Which mean the other three orders pretty much sat while the second burger was being remade.) And his way of excusing himself was. Manager: So how is everything tasting? All of us: its OK, pretty good, yea its fine. Manager: Well at least its good. Sorry about the wait .(and walks off). He never once sounded sincere and apologetic. He never said anything like, we apologize for the long wait, the drinks on us or we’ll comp a meal whatsoever!.. I’m sitting there thinking to myself in disbelief, in awe(and feeling if I should feel embarass for the manager for what he just said) of what I just heard/witness! I honestly dont see how a manager like him manage a restaurant when everything is about, service! And he clearly dont see that he suck at his service skills. To know that they’re the same owners of, Cracker Box… I will know now to never eat there. Oh I was so upset that I did not even want to pay the bill for our meals but I paid it anyway. They will never have our business again. WEWILLNEVERCOMEBACK.

This place kicks ass! People from The Mint can’t survive without all of you at J’s!!! Highly recommend them, everything I have tried(Pastas, Steaks, Peppers, etc.) I have enjoyed and they sure know how to pour a Crown Over!
