Hi guys my name is James. 20 year Union carpenter. I had my first run in with Mr Armstrong about 2 weeks ago. When my wife called his office on the phone, asking if they accepted our insurance. MI-​Health, meridian. and that I was in excruciating pain, and needed emergency services for like 4 teeth. I was told that my insurance covered everything except for root canals. Got to the office, was greeted by his staff in a professional manner that made me really reassured. They instantly brought me back and started taking pictures of my mouth, Mr. Armstrong came in and gave me a brief oral exam. As he gave me an exam I tried to explain to him my issues. And I felt that he was only slightly listening to me. So, he begins to tell me the same thing I told them, I’m going to need emergency work on four of my teeth, and that my dental insurance does not cover root canals. And I need four of them. He said don’t worry about that lets work on the one giving you pain. I figured since he classifies his business for tax purposes as a non profit organization, he was going to give me a sliding scale or something??? At this point I realized he wasn’t even slightly listening to what i was telling him. Just a little background on myself. I was a street kid, in the 80’s much like other kids. and getting to the dentist was not high on the priority list. Therefore, my teeth have been irreversibly damaged. Un-​fixable. So this Mr Armstrong guys secretary starts talking to my wife in the waiting room, and yeah shes 8 months pregnant and has our 6 year old kid with us, and I hear her start getting upset, so instantly I jump up to see whats going on… come to find out shes trying to get my wife to agree to a $ 4,000 bill, to fix 1 tooth? I instantly said, that’s not what I talked about with the DR. Before I could finish explaining, she said don’t shoot the messenger,!!! and cuts me off rudely. After that I rudely explained to them, that there is no way in hell, I’m paying $ 4,000 to fix a tooth, that’s structurally unsound, that’s how these dentist get you, they get the, most money for root canals, and crowns, and tell everyone that they need one, and what they don’t tell you is, its a very temporary fix, especially as when your tooth is as far gone as mine is, and that the better solution for you James, is to have me pull this tooth, and get an implant, when you can afford it, instead, they say there is nothing they can do for me from here except clean my teeth,? LOL, I have a huge infection need amoxicillin, spitting up black bacteria from this going so long, and they refused to help or listen or care. I do not recommend this place. I did however go to a nice Dr 2 days later, who pulled my tooth, is helping with my infection, and gave me a good referral on where to get good implant for a low cost. Understanding that my life is a little bit harder because I take care of my wife and children first, and on my low income, hence the medicaid state insurance. FYI– Great dentist for blue collar men.
