Acorn Amplifiers

I inherited a Silvertone 1484 from my dad and was VERY excited to get it home and crank it up. However, my worst fears were realized when my new toy was extremely noisy (and not in the good way!) I soon came to accept that 40+ years of sitting in the closet wasn’t the best for it and started to process of re-​builing this guy myself.
I quickly came to the realization that I didn’t know enough about tube amps to be comfortable tackling this project and began to seek outside assistance. I called around and chatted with a few guys and different shops but never really found anyone I was comfortable with. Then I decided to ask my guitar buddies who they would take their amps to. These guys are boutique amp snobs… they would never touch a Marshall if their life depended on it, but would pay 2 to 3 times more for a boutique amp that sounds exactly like a Marshall… but I digress… All of my friends recommended Acorn Amps so I swung by their shop.
As soon as I walked in I noticed another Silvertone 1484 on the bench and was immediately sure I had made the right choice. These guys are super chill and very approachable. They know their stuff and are more than willing to share their knowledge with you. I dropped of the amp and a few days later they called with a quote. Full Cap job, new tubes and a few other odds and ends… all in all… came to about 350-​ish. I asked for a few days to think it over, which turned into a month to think it over. About 3 weeks later they called me up and offered to lower the quote as they «felt the quote was a little high relative to what the amp is actually worth.» Right then I knew they were doing this because they love the work… not solely for the money. I approved the quote and now have my amp back… and yes, it sounds amazing!

If you are a musician, and your ax feels like it has a cold, it’s illogical to go to Logic, and it’s a cheap trick to go to Wizard. Go see the Doctors at Acorn Amps in Decatur. They will fix you up real good. I have had no problems from any of my equipment since I started using them as my repair shop. Great personal service, good turn around time, excellent communication when dealing with the repair.

Acorn is the very best amp shop in Atlanta. No bench fee, fast turnaround times, and the nicest techs you’ll ever meet. When I brought my amp in, they started looking at it immediately and answered my questions. They called me back the next week with a quote that was much cheaper than I was expecting. This place is awesome. They are currently building me a fuzz pedal to add to my pedal board (which they rewired with custom built cables and set up for me). Acorn is the only place that I will bring my gear from now on.

When I needed my Mesa Boogie Lonestar Special looked at, I was apprehensive. I’m a former employee of a local electronics repair shop, and I know how expensive repairs can be. I’m not completely ignorant when it comes to electronics, and I can definitely read and understand schematics.
My first inclination was to attempt the repair myself. I headed to a local retailer to pick up a quad set of tubes. Of course they were out. The 4 tubes would have cost me over $ 100. I was annoyed and frustrated, so I decided to take my amp to a shop. A friend of mine recommended acorn amps, so I figured I’d give them a shot. I am so glad I did.
The guys were super friendly and straight forward. Comparisons to my old shop: turnaround time at acorn was 1 – 2 days. Old shop averaged 3 – 4 weeks. Acorn offered to call with an estimate. Old shop extended turnaround time by at least 1 week if you needed an estimate. Acorn has $ 0 bench fee. Old shop charged $ 70 even if no repair was attempted or if an estimate was declined.
I picked up my amp for $ 145. They replaced four tubes that would have cost me over $ 100 at a local retailer. They replaced a 12AX7 tube which was causing the reverb to fail. Approximate cost, $ 20. They also replaced a diode and fixed a ground screw that was stabbing internal components.
So if I even attempted to fix this personally, it would have cost me at LEAST $ 120. As a novice, who knows how long it would have taken me, and if I would have successfully completed the repair.
These guys are awesome. Friendly, fast, affordable. They communicated clearly all the issues the amp had and what repairs were completed. The amp had quite a few issues, so I know I would’ve eventually had to take it somewhere to complete the repair.
My experience was perfect. I’m glad I now have a place that I can take my gear for repair, and a place that I can confidently recommend to my friends. I’ve never left a review for anything. That’s how much of an impact Acorn Amps made on me.

Wow most places like this are crooks and Aholes. This Acorn Amps is truly remarkable people that are very honest and know what there doing. Im totally impressed with these cats. They got my knuckle head screaming. Im so fu€king excited when i plug that sh*t in now!!! Thanks to Tyler what a good human he made my weekend. Very reasonable down to earth god damn im stoked. It makes me wanna break my sh*t so i can go back and experience the customer service they supply. I dont see that hardly anywhere anymore. Thanks to the corporate nazi whore mentality that has spread like a virus.
Acorn Amps fu€kin rocks!!!

I took a tube amplifier to Acorn to get al the tubes replaced with the JJ brand of tubes and to replace the cheap Chinese ones the amp came with. The man on the phone said bring it in and he could get it done in about an hour while I waited. Awesome… all the other amp guys were saying two weeks or more and the guy at Andrews was acting like he was doing me a big favor by allowing me to be a customer and give him my money. The other guys were also about 30 to 50 dollars higher than Acorn. When I got there the guy behind the counter was super nice and asked what kind of sound was I looking for and listened closely as I told him. I noticed also that he had his mechanical engineering degree from U of Florida on the wall and a Gibson SG next to his work bench. Smart and a guitar player. After an hour all work was done, tubes replaced and the amp re-​biased. The price was very reasonable and I even bought an Acorn Amp t-​shirt to help show support for the new guys. Upon getting home I tried out the amplifier, a Bugera V22, and was really happy with the warmth and low end growl the amp now had. The highs were no longer like an ice pick and rolled off nicely. My amp now does everything I need it to do and now I prefer it over my Marshall DSL40C amp for certain music. Cannot recommend enough.

Acorn is great! They fixed a whammy pedal for me that was 3 steps past broke. It was a fast and affordable repair!
