What a great shop! Service is fantastic. I needed to have a tire and tube replaced. It was completed while I waited. Reasonable price. I also got some great training and equipment tips!

We needed a bike for our son and staff was attentive and lovely. They went thru a 12 point safety checklist with him hat we thought was fabulous.

I bought my bicycle from Bicycle South and have had it serviced a few times. I’m satisfied with my experiences, but I’ve received better service from Decatur Bikes down the road. On a recent tune-​up, my front brakes were tightened so much that the front wheel couldn’t be removed. When I told an associate, he looked at me like I was crazy before trying himself and agreeing that it had to be loosened. I also had to adjust the rear dérailleur moderately after the tune-​up so that it could shift gears smoothly. Still, Bicycle South prices are reasonable and their service has generally been professional, if a bit brusque. Recommended, but I’d also encourage others to compare with Decatur Bikes.

The people that work here are extremely helpful, kind and informative! I highly recommend this place if you are looking for a bike that isn’t from target or Walmart !

OK, I really like places where the employees are like, «Yeah, we know some places are annoying and will rip you off. We won’t do that, because that’s stupid??» This is one of those places!
I took my bike in for a brake fix, and it was in and out of there on the estimated time and with the estimated fee (which was only $ 20 yay). They didn’t do one of those, «Oh hey, yeah, we found this thing wrong, so we fixed it, and now you have to pay this much more.» They were honest and got the job done. I can tell the people there are genuine. They’re also not snobby about bikes (or at least I haven’t had a snobby experience with them, heh).
So there was a problem, though. When I got my bike back, the kickstand didn’t work? Like idk, something was weird with it, and my bike just kept toppling over. So I took it back to them and explained the situation. They looked at it, was like, «Uhhh that’s weird,» took it to the back for a few minutes, and then came out with my kickstand fixed! No extra charge! So yeah, it was kind of annoying that I had to come back, but at least they didn’t charge me, and I was in and out of there fast again. :B

I love this shop. They always have just what I need. I do a lot of work on my own bikes so I go here for parts/​accessories that I don’t want to wait for from Amazon. I haven’t bought a bike for myself from here, but I did by one for my seven year old daughter and they sold us a nice giant Revel.

Stopped by on my lunch break to look at hybrids. I had seen a bike on their website (Giant Cypress) but was told they don’t actually keep it in the store, so felt slightly misled there. No biggie. The part that was a bit disappointing for me was the customer service. Fortunately, they did have my second choice bike in stock, but when I shared my interest with the salesperson was told that this particular bike was more for the «forty-​five and up crowd». I let the salesperson know that I was interested in comfort over performance and just wanted a recreational bike, but he again assured me that a more performance oriented bike would work better for me, despite my sharing that I planned only to ride in the neighborhood and to nearby stores. Each time I brought up the bike I was interested in, he dismissed it and inferred that it was not a quality product. While I appreciated his candor, it’s also unsettling that the store would carry bikes that they do not have confidence in. On a positive note, they do carry Giant and Raleigh, two of the best-​value brands in cycling, so that’s a plus. In spite of this, there are too many great LBS in Atlanta that are known for great service to settle. Really wanted to like this shop.

This is a great LBS (local bike shop in bike –geek speak). They specialize in Giant, Raleigh, and Brompton bikes, offer a good range of Louis Garneau apparel, have plenty of essential accessories and parts, and do excellent mechanical work.
The folks here know their stuff, but most importantly I get the vibe that they really want you to enjoy riding; other shops in the area just seem to want to sell you crap. These guys want to get you hooked on bikes.
To look at other reviews, it’s clear that they get their fair share of inexperienced first-​time buyers/​riders who get sticker shock when checking out the bikes here — which are, honestly, competitively priced — as well as a boatload of know-​it-​all Emory twits. Buying a modern bike can definitely be intimidating, but the folks here are very down to earth;
The mechanics have always been quick with their work on my ride (a Giant) but they make appointments too. They also take the time to explain what they’ve done. There is a nice café next door if you need to wait.
Bottom line: I wish I had bought my bike from them.

I wanted a Brompton and Bicycle South happened to be the only place to get a Brompton in Atlanta. They were great. I’m a mechanical engineer, so I do my own bicycle maintenance. They offered the usual 90-​day free maintenance service (that all bicycle shops do), but Bromptons are built to last and very robust bikes, so that offer was useless – in a good way. Therefore, I can’t say much about their maintenance service. On their sales side, ordering the Brompton was me providing them with the bike reference number I obtained from the Brompton website and they place the order. After about a month or two later, they called me up letting me know that my Brompton arrived from England and ready for pick up. It all worked out well.
Few months later, I went back to Bicycle South to purchase a road bike. When they didn’t have the type that I wanted, they kindly referred me to a shop that carried the more exotic, high-​end road bikes that I was looking for. I think that’s good customer service.
I’ll be coming back to Bicycle South for another Brompton in the near future (not that I have a choice to go elsewhere, but my first experience was good so I’m OK with the lack of store options).

So I had an incredibly bad experience with this shop about 6 months ago. After shopping around, I saw that the deal offered through them and Bike Emory was the best I could get. I was hoping that my last visit was an isolated incident. I am happy to report that it was! I ordered my bike on Monday and it was there by Saturday, assembled, and ready to pick up. Even though the store was incredibly busy, I was greeted immediately upon entering the store. The salesperson got my bike and took the time to explain everything to me even with all of the customers in the store. I am happy to finally have a good, quality bike as well as a good customer service experience here.

A few years ago I was partially and permanently disabled in a car accident. I’ve been looking for a physical activity that I can do and biking seemed to be the answer. I gained of weight after the accident and was limited by the type of bike I could get. Other bike shops I went to had nothing in stock for heavier riders and seemed almost appalled that I would even ask. I thought I was going to have to resort to an online bike shop that custom built bikes for heavier riders, but that route would have cost over $ 2000!
I saw Bicycle South while shopping in the area and decided to check the place out, without a lot of optimism.
I was very surprised at what happened. I was greeted the moment I entered the store. I explained what I needed and was directed to Brian. He was very experienced and professional with assessing my needs. He didn’t have what I needed in the shop but told me that he knew that he could make it happen and for much less than what I was looking at in regards to the custom bike. A week later he gave me a call and told me that he found a couple of bikes that would work. We discussed all of my options and decided on a steel-​frame Raleigh cruiser women’s step through bike with an upgraded back wheel and cassette so that I could use the bike in a variety of terrains without fear of something breaking. It took a little time after that for all of the parts to come in, but soon I was testing it out. It rode like a dream and was exactly what I wanted.
After getting the bike ready for me, Brian went over everything I needed to take care of the it, showing me how to take off the wheels to change a tire, explaining how the gears worked, etc. Since I also needed a bike rack for my car, he installed it for me and showed me how to remove and re-​install it on my own.
At the end of the day I walked out with a new bike, with an upgraded wheel and cassette, a bike rack, and a special bar to hold my woman’s bike for less than $ 1000. I saved a LOT of money and received truly incredible service in the process. I wish all businesses operated like Bicycle South and had employees as committed and caring as Brian.

I am new to the whole cycling thing so as a noob and especially a female I was expecting to be mildly uncomfortable here but it was great. Everyone was very friendly. There was plenty of staff to help me with questions and making sure my gear was right for me. Plus I happened to wander in on a big sale day so my total wasn’t bad for the amount of stuff I purchased. I did kind of wish they had a girl working there so I could find out what (if any) brands of jerseys/​jackets are accommodating for the well-​endowed. I think I embarrassed one poor older man by asking him. :)
I’ll definitely be coming back when I need something in the future.

Last weekend was sooooooo nice I had to go for a ride, but I needed a bike.
HAGEN was my personal shopper and he was so professional for a HS kid.
His knowledge on what to look for was even better! Couldn’t be happier with my
Giant.
What is also good is that BS has cycling groups that do rides… gotta love that.

In regards to LR’s comments. I took my kids, my grampa’s vintage schwinn here for a tune-​up years ago and it was all good. And they weren’t the best bikes.

I went into this shop simply looking for a bike lock, but quickly found reasonable priced bike shorts as well. The shop even had a changing room to make sure the shorts fit! Service was friendly and helpful, A++.

Great local bicycle shop. Carries a lot of unusual stuff, particularly for the «city» or «commuter» rider. Most other bike shops cater either specifically to beginners or recreational road /​mountain bikers.
Bike South has a lot of good stuff for the city rider, particularly for folks who ride to work or school. They’ve got a good selection of interesting and unusual stuff like handmade leather saddles, made-​in-​usa wooden baskets, all kinds of great rain gear. It’s not typical to be able to walk in to a local shop and find this stuff in stock.
I ride to work regularly and I’ve made a few calls to Bicycle South hoping (but doubting) they have the item I need at the last minute. They have always pleasantly surprised me. And they are friendly, which can be rare in bike shops.
Be sure to check out some of the sweet vintage steel bikes they have for sale out front.

I love Bike South, ive been biking since i was 14, ok so maybe im only 19 now but i do bike a ton and ive only gotten my bike fixed there, hell ive bought maybe 3 bike stuff from other bike shops, only because i needed it then and BS would have had to order them. BS is a awesome store, there guys are great, you may be able to find the stuff a little cheaper at other bike shops but i love the guys there, i actually bought my current bike from one of the guys who use to be there. Another thing is they do really quick repairs, if its something little theyll usually do it right when you bring your bike in and if it will take longer its usually within a week, if all you other stupid annoying people didnt go there i could get my bike fixed in a day. I bought a bike light and it stopped working after about a week and after calling the company (Planet Bike) they gave me a new one thats still working great. for the record BS = Bike South
Overall there a great bike store and there local which i love.

Bicycle South may be a bit pricey, but they carry high end bicycles and an extremely helpful staff.
My soon to be 14 year old brother has recently become passionate about riding bicycles and wanted a new one for his birthday. His old Bicycle was nothing special, just some Tony Hawk brand name orange bike. It was really time for something new.
Originally my lil brother and father were just going to go to Bicycle South to browse the bikes, because they figured everything would be out of their price range. They shopped around at Sports Authority as well, but in the end Bicycle South really won them over.
First off they are happy to help anyone who comes in; from the Bicycle expert to the 14 year old boy, they want to help you. They are very kind and tell you everything you want to know about any bicycle they have. They ask you what you want out of a bike and they even fit the bike to your size. they even put a kick stand on my brother’s bike for just a lil extra.
Don’t be scared off by the $ 3,000 bikes in the front window, they also have some at more reasonable prices. We bought one for around $ 300. His bike is beautiful and everything and more as far as what he wanted. Our only problem now is that we are going have to store it somewhere safe so it doesn’t get stolen.

So happy I finally visited this shop. I took an 18 year old bike in for repairs expecting to have to pay for a complete overhaul. After having a good look the girl helping me said I needed a basic tuneup and some tires. She was extremely nice and knowledgeable and didn’t treat me like an idiot for being a newbie. They could have taken me for a lot more money but they were honest. THAT is a TRUE neighborhood bike shop. I’m a customer for life now.

Recently, I got the absolutely batty idea to attempt a triathlon. I haven’t been on or owned a bike since I was about 12, so I definitely need one. I was in the area and decided to stop by Bicycle South to get an idea of what I may need to successfully complete this insanity. All the staff members were busy when I arrived and from what I overheard, it seems like they really knew their stuff. When one freed up, I explained what I was looking for. He asked a few questions about my goals (are you going to do more than one triathlon or just this one?) and if I’d ever owned that type of bike before. He showed me a few options that seemed more affordable than what I’d seen online. As in not $ 800.
He explained a few of the options and offered a test ride. I declined as I wasn’t exactly dressed for it, but I’ll certainly be back to give a few a try. I didn’t feel pressured at all and have some good information to consider. It’s still a bit out of my price range, but perhaps I’ll fall in love with one and be willing to spend the extra money.

Bike South is pretty expensive, but that’s partially because they’re targeting themselves very specifically at higher-​end bike buyers. However, for the price point, they do make damn sure your bike fits you. (This being said, I bought mine at Performance Bikes, which has a bigger selection – my dad bought his Breezer here and has never had any problems with it, though.)
However, the employees here are very knowledgable, not at all snobby, and really helpful. They’re not a bunch of hipsters – most of them come from the neighborhood (several went to my high school), and it shows. They’re very interested in getting people back on bikes, and they’re very invested in the area – they are partnering with Emory, Druid Hills High, and Agnes Scott for bike discounts for students.
Overall, a really nice neighborhood bike shop with great employees, especially if you’re looking at getting back on a bikes for the first time in a while.
