Golden Phoenix Chinese Restaurant

I served tables for over 5 years, and never have I felt the need to stiff a server because of poor service.
Congrats goes to the Sunday crew at Golden Phoenix! You all have earned the honor of my first stiff!
I waited 15 minutes for a refill… 15 minutes! That’s all they have to do, refill my drink. I get that it was busy, but they walked by my table a dozen times and not once did the check-​in on me. The first drink was made by the person that sat me.
I left my food on the table, and went to pay for my ticket. Wait… I had no ticket made, so I had to wait for them to find a server with my ticket. I told the cashier about my lack of service and they offered nothing; I had to pay for my glass of ice with a splash of Diet Pepsi.
I will not come back.

My husband and I come to this restaurant at least once a week. We are pescetarians and love their selection – especially the sushi bar. It’s hard to find a decently-​priced Chinese buffet that serves good, fresh sushi, but they do and we love it! In addition to the sushi, they have a lot of other delicious seafood and veggie selections that have always seemed very fresh and warm. The fried flounder on the bar is amazing, as is the coconut shrimp. The staff has always been very, very friendly and attentive toward us. We have never had a bad experience at this establishment and have eaten there no less than 30 times since we’ve moved to Decatur. In my opinion, Golden Phoenix is the best Chinese restaurant in Decatur and the banners on their walls boasting their culinary achievements within the community do not lie.

Soooo good. I’ve been here a few times and the food and service have always been great.

I wish I could give them no stars at all, it was that bad!
First off, I’m 34 weeks pregnant. I wanted a no frills cheap chinese the other night and we decided to give this place a try. We’d eaten there 5 years ago when we’d moved to town.
Big mistake!
First, there were 4 waiters who just stood by and chatted right by our table. It was very disconcerting.
Second, they wanted you to order the buffet and didn’t offer us a menu. I asked for a menu, they had an attitude. My husband wanted the buffet. So against my better judgement, we did just that.
Big mistake #2!
The food was luke warm to cold. This includes the food that the hispanic man was bringing and putting on the buffet. It wasn’t hot. It wasn’t that tasty either.
We ate very little and decided to just leave and call it a bust. I told the manager at the cash register about it. He had the audacity to say «You should have ordered off of the menu.» WTF?! You have got to be kidding me!!! He didn’t offer us a discount or anything. He said the food was hot, look at the steam. My husband argued with him, to no avail. We got ripped off!
Later that night, my seven year old daughter was sick and had an upset stomach all thanks to their «hot» «fresh» food.
Only go here if you like food poisoning and cold faux chinese.
