Wonderful burgers shakes. If you are interested in somewhere other than a burger chain, this is the spot for you. No indoor eating area but it’s apart of the charm. Nice pit stop on our way home.

Really good burger for the price. I ordered the double cheese burger with fries and soda and it hit the spot for under $ 8. Small dining area with big benches limit dining-​in. Well worth it for the price!

Family owned local chain that lives up to the hype of the locals. The folks that work here are mostly family members and are very warm and welcoming to their guests, which is a pleasant plus.
This is what I consider pure comfort food. In a lot of ways it reminds me of a scaled down version of Billy Goat Taverns in Chicago. Locals swarm to this place and don’t be surprised if you hear someone say they moved away but never forgot to come here when they are back in town. I’d consider making it a five star joint if they had a better fry selection. All you get are the standard, military issue crinkled fries. The shoe strings or something other would pair better in my opinion.
To the delight of the locals, I kept referring to this place as «Cankles».

I came all the way from Phoenix to hang out with family for a short trip and get some good ok’ Decatur food. I was unable to get a burger on my first day here, and my second day was Sunday so they were closed! Monday my flight out of Peoria was at 1 and after seeing somewhere that they opened at 1030 we stopped by. Unfort, we were wrong, they open at 11. After explaining that I came all the way from Phoenix and hadn’t had a Krekel’s burger in 2 years they made us one to take to go so I could eat on the way to my flight! The team was great! Thank you so much, you certainly made my day!

Mmmm, Krekel’s. I worked at this location for 3 years before heading off to college 5 years ago, and I can still say I love it. Not many people can work at a fast food through high school and still stand to eat it.
Fantastic made-​to-​order burgers that melt in your mouth. Crispy crinkle fries. Phenomenal milkshakes (go for the hot fudge milkshakes), and unique lemon ice cream. If you really don’t care about your daily caloric intake, dip your fries in cheddar cheese.
This location has plenty of seating and parking. Highly recommend!
Tips: Cash only, Closed Sundays, this location’s burgers are more on the juicy side and the fries are the crinkle fries.

I know people who have moved away from Decatur and still have to come back for a Krekel’s fix at least once a year.
The owners are great and so is the food. My family swears by the burgers whereas I have always preferred the chicken sandwich. They also have great shakes and some of the best ice cream available. Doesn’t matter what season it is, I always want a shake :)

If you know Krekel’s you know a great thin, hot, juicy, fresh hamburger joint! Everyone I know who comes to Decatur or has lived in Decatur knows Krekel’s is an establishment/​fixture in town. Where else can you go and get a double cheeseburger that is juicy and a little greasy sandwich serviced to go, even if you say «for here please» (which I DON’T RECOMMEND!) You might get a funny look. They even have triple burgers. Crinkle fries are good too… salt is on the table (picnic table). And don’t forget the milkshakes or the famous custard cone with orange sprinkles. My nieces and nephews still order the cones every single visit. I cannot say enough about the memories and friends I see here when I come to town. It is everything a small town establishment should be.
