Saigon Cafe

The phö at this place was AWESOME. Andre (Vietnamese man named Andre… Go figure right? Lol) was our server and he was excellent! The only reason why I give this place 4 stars is because the bubble tea isn’t the greatest. The first one I got didn’t have ice in it at all and was overly sweet. Ning, the hostess, was very nice and asked if I wanted her to re make it. The second one was better, but I’ve had much better bubble tea. No wonder why you get a free one through Unilocal.Someone may have to pay you to drink it. The other reason I gave 4 stars is because the crab ragoon a.k.a. Cheese puffs were fried so hard that my tooth almost cracked when I took my first bite. Subtract some time from the frying process and this appetizer will be A-​ok! Other than that… I would revisit this place whenever I’m in the Decatur area again, and craving Phö. The décor in the restaurant is really cute too! My brother had the chicken Lo mien. He enjoyed it and even ordered some to go.

I’ve been craving phở for a while and this place was amazing! It’s close to Emory and very convenient. My boyfriend and I ordered P1 extra large and sesame chicken and we were very full. My boyfriend said their P1 was smaller than before but the taste is still good, which is why I’m not giving Saigon five stars. The sesame chicken doesn’t have any sesame but was still better most sesame chicken I’ve had in the states. Will come again.

I cannot begin to explain how delicious our dinner was! Im so glad I finally tried this location. The others closed and I lost hope.

This place is wonderful! The menu is expansive and inexpensive, with lots of gluten free and vegetarian options! The service is usually good, and my only critiques are that they have been out of my preferred dishes more than once and that they don’t deliver. I recommend the basil tofu!

My go to place in Decatur when I crave Vietnamese food. Haven’t been disappointed and the Thai iced tea with boba is one of my favorite drinks.

I’ve always enjoyed eating here and have never had a problem with the service. One time the menu smelled like an armpit, I figured out that was because that’s where our waiter was holding them… Hah!

I stopped in to try a bowl of phở. It wasn’t too bad, I don’t think I’m a phở person though after eating some. It was a bit bland to me overall. I think I would have liked it better if the ingredients were actually cooked together and not just mixed after the fact. I have eaten here on other occasions and enjoyed my meals. I’m defiantly a fan of the Thai fried rice with pineapple. It has a little kick to it so be careful. I usually like to enjoy some with a cup of bubble tea, the flavor varies with my mood. :)

So I’m eating phở at this saigon café in Atlanta and this is the second time a Vietnamese restaurant here plays weird dining music. The first one played a soundtrack of Celine dions greatest hits and now this one is playing symphonies of big theme songs like Star Wars intro music and 007s opening song. I dunno how I feel about eating phở while listening to James Bond music. Now they’re playing the theme song from Indiana jones. I feel like I’m being chased by bandits while I’m trying to eat my phở!
Besides the terrible dining music, the phở is flavorful. The medium sized bowl is large! It comes with a lot of noodles. I thoroughly enjoyed my phở.
However, their boba tea was meh. It tasted watered down and the boba was a little undercooked.
I also got the summer rolls, but it tasted like it’s been wrapped for the morning and sitting in the fridge all day. It was super cold. Usually fresh made summer rolls are a little warm because u have to wet the wrap in warm water before wrapping stuff into it. This was def pre-​made. The peanut sauce also lacked effort. It was just hoisin sauce with crushed peanuts on top. C’mon guys!
It was ok. I would come back for just the phở though and not bother with anything else. They seem to have gotten their noodle soups on fleek. I’m not sure about everything else.

Though my last experience was so lacking, I went again because I love phở, and the beef phở is (still) very good. Definitely have it!

It was an average thai/​viet place. I got a lunch Penang Chicken Curry ($ 7.95). It’s a great value. You got a cup of chicken curry, a bowl of rice, one veggie egg roll, and sweet and sour soup. It tasted pretty good but nothing spectacular. The beef phở looked decent although I didn’t try any.
The service was pretty good as well as maintenance of the place. They have a lot of booths so when small parties come in they are also seated there, which means when the lunch rush starts you have to yield. If they had smaller tables then maybe it would be less of a problem.
Overall, it’s a decent Thai/​Viet option.

Great phở we had another chicken shrimp pork soup as well with yellow noodles I had never tried before and were really good. The Thai spring rolls with the peanut hoysin sauce. very nice. Will go back for sure

Sorry Saigon… really nice try but I’d like to taste the food you cook for staff meals. Seemed a little lack luster and missing fundamental ingredients usually found in Vietnamese dishes.

Always love the food here. My fav is their grilled shrimp and BBQ pork on vermicelli.

I go here from time to time for a phở fix, but it always makes me wish I just drove a little further out to Buford.
If you just looked at the phở, everything looks like it should taste great but the broth is on the bland side and lacking something. That being said, I wouldn’t stop coming here for that reason. Sometimes I just feel lazy and want to go somewhere closer to home.
The workers are also always friendly and efficient.
If you have nowhere else to get Vietnamese or want something less authentic, this place is just fine.

I absolutely love Saigon café!!! I come here a ton, especially when I don’t feel like driving all the way to Buford highway. Their phở is great. I also like the chow fun noodles. (Super fun). And the noodle «bun» dishes are really delicious also.
Service is always really great. Their staff are really helpful and friendly, and one of the guys there talked to us for quite a while helping us decide what to order XD and of course we were all pleased. The pad Thai is also good, of course. And the spring rolls, and etc. I could go on: D
Also the food comes out really quick, so give it a try! You’re sure to love it.

This place is super awesome and fast with they service. Love they coco tree and and my Togo order was fast. And again, they service is outstanding and fast. Love u Saigon Café.

I have no idea why Saigon Café only has three stars… we ate there for the first time yesterday and we really enjoyed our meal.
I was a little skeptical at first because it’s in a strip mall kinda area, but the inside is clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly and attentive… and most importantly, the food was good:
We started with spring rolls, they were average, nothing to hop up and down about, but certainly nothing to complain about either… then we each ordered phở… we got a chicken phở and a shrimp phở and they were both excellent, ingredients tasted fresh and broth was flavorful. Plus they had all our favorites on the side: bean sprouts, jalapeños, limes, cilantro, garlic chili, hoisin, soy, siracha, everything. Oh, and portions were huge… I got a small and it filled me up and my boyfriend got the medium and didn’t finish… I can’t even imagine what the large and extra large would look like! Prices were good too, our bill was just over $ 20.
We both said we’ll be back for sure… I would definitely recommend Saigon Café for a casual lunch or dinner.

Have been here a couple times now and really like the Phở — nice having this in my hood. Had a few tastes of some of their Thai offerings and wasn’t impressed — I’ll stick with the Phở!
My only gripe is that they need to ditch the horrible music being pumped through the dining area — Your customers are not 12 yr old girls… Katy Perry is not condusive to fine dining!

Two days ago I dined here after doing some grocery shopping at the DeKalb farmers market in North Decatur. Before that, it was at least a year before I ate here, so I decided to come back and try something different. I have been here probably about 5 times in the past with friends and family and always have been a fan of their milk teas.

Saigon Café is located in the North Decatur shopping centre and has plenty of regular parking and handicap parking spaces, it is right between Camera Doctor and Choco Late Coffee.
[Inside]
The interior is very nice, the theme is warm bamboo and wood grain, with a few bamboo baskets hanging off the wall and they have an artificial palm tree displaced inside with coconuts hanging off of it. Outside they have a cute little patio which sits three couples.
[Prices]
The prices are reasonable. Appetizers prices average from 3.25 to 3.95, with two being slightly more at 4.25 and 5.25. Soaps average 6.95. Stir fries, noodle salads and combo plates average under 10 and phở is 6.95 for small, 7.95 for medium, 9.95 for x-​large and phở Togo is 8.95, large?
[Food]
During this visit I had their Tom kha kai, which is Thailand cuisine, not Vietnamese, but I decided to try it anyway as this place is a fusion of both Vietnamese and Thai. Their Tom kha kai here is fairly decent, but it did not taste as authentic as it should, so for Tom kha kai one might want to stick with a strictly Thai restaurant, however if you are not too picky, most cannot taste the difference. I visit a local Thai restaurant that is family owned and their Tom Kai is amazing, so maybe I am just too accustom to that version instead of the one here. For my entrée I had their broccoli and chicken stir fry with carrots, mushrooms and baby corn. The serving size was plentiful and it was very good, just the gravy was a tad bit too salty.
[Drink]
This visit I really wanted to have a milk tea, but they were out, so I had their black tea with lychee. To be completely honest, it was extremely sweat and I ended up only drinking half of it. It seemed like whoever made it might have just poured half of the can of lychee’s that come canned in heavy sugar syrup into the cup, as it was way too sweet. If they do not have the regular milk tea with tapioca, don’t get lychee jelly. Luckily with the Unilocal app they offer a free drink.
[Service]
My server was friendly and did a great job, just wish he did not assume that I did not want chop sticks as he only provided me with regular silverware, so I had to ask for chop sticks, after all I am part Azn (Eurasian).
[Conclusion]
If you are a student at Emory or live nearby, they have a lot of great options to offer for guests. Would I drive 30 minutes to eat here? No, but if in the neighbor, definitely stop by at least once. The place is clean, service is good and the food is worth trying.
