Specialties

In our lunch hours we serve down home country plate lunches, Cajun soups, Poboys, Salads, Chicken Wings, Old Fashioned Hamburgers. Then in our dinner hours it is all Cajun & Seafood, we feature a chef from New Orleans, who prepares, great Cajun dishes, we have something for every palate, if you don’t see it on the menu, we will prepare something special for you.

History

Established in 2012.

We are a family that lived in New Orleans for a period of time and fell in love with the food, so we wanted to bring what we loved so much to North Alabama, and that we did.

Sausage tasted okay. The food is way overpriced for the quality, as well as portion size. I ordered the fried oyster plate and only got 10 baby oysters. I most likely will not be returning to the Big Sleazy

I took my crew here for lunch while working on a job in Decatur.
Food is okay.
Service was horrible. The waitress might have been new but there no question the management did not train her.
I might consider trying this again.

I travel a lot and eat out a lot and I am always looking for what I found here at The Big Easy. The potato salad was as good as and maybe even better than my first wife’s mother’s potato salad. Honestly, it may be the best ever. I was able to eat quickly and well and the food was even a little better than I was hoping for. This one is on my list. It should be on your list too.

Have been here three times with very different experiences. #1: Takeout Po-boy sandwiches — shrimp was a bit overly salty, but it made a good balanced flavor with the bread. #2: Dinner — crawfish etouffe was incredible and dinner was a lovely experience! #3: Breakfast — service was painfully slow, the eggs & country ham were swimming in grease, the only things edible were the crepes I ordered (which were tasty). Our waitress did inform us that the regular chef was not cooking breakfast that day. The service has been mediocre each time.

My husband and I ate dinner here on Saturday evening. It was our first visit, but won’t be our last. We both really enjoyed it. He had the shrimp and grits and I had the grilled shrimp and fried green tomato po boy. We were both very pleased with our choices. We shared a small portion of our entrees with one another. The shrimp and grits was as good as I have had, even at much more upscale restaurants. The po boy sandwich was good, but I thought the roll that it was served on would have been better if toasted to a crunchier texture. It was just a little too soft. I missed that crunchiness of toasted French bread. The dining area is small and noisy, but we really did enjoy our visit.

I’m taking into consideration that I just moved from California and possibly have sensitive tastebuds. This place was actually not all that. The dirty rice tasted like a bag of salt, the cornbread tasted like a stick of butter, the chicken poulet tasted like cornbread stuffing with loads of salt, the mac and cheese was just that… noodles and cheese, and the sweet potato casserole was a pile of sugar. So if you would like to eat butter, salt, and sugar then this is the place for you. I’ve eaten in Louisiana and loved it. This actually gave me an upset stomach. Good marks is that its inexpensive and I like that its downtown.

So the family and I chose to try this new place. My wife and I both love Cajun. Prices are a little expensive, but food was really good. I got a shrimp poboy, my wife got red beans and rice. Both of us were full after. We decided to get the bread pudding. It was awesome. My son loved the chicken fingers, who that will help I have no idea. I realize I said I was full after yet still got the bread pudding, but since I was 15 I have been on a quest to find the best bread pudding this was a top 3 in my book.

Okay Creole/Cajun food – a standard menu, without a lot of flair or exciting flavors. Drab décor and friendly but frazzled service makes it a fair dining experience. Not a favorite and probably won’t be coming back.

New place in downtown Decatur. There’s a dog fight right now downtown as to who gets my business. I hadn’t heard of this place until after my mom went and ate there with my sister. Little background info: my mother is deaf and has been since birth. We’ve gone to restaurants before and waiters/waitresses see shes deaf and have asked if she needed a braille menu. I appreciate the accommodation, but she’s deaf, not blind. Anyway, usually when she goes to restaurants she has to tell one of us with her what she wants, or has to point at the menu. She comes here with one of my sisters, and one of the managers sees she’s deaf, and comes up and begins talking in sign language to her. She told me about it, and was extremely happy about it. I decided that I’d love to give them my money. So, on to my review. I ordered the gator sausage, with sides of cheesy grits and dirty rice. I didn’t really like the rice very much, but the sausage and grits were great. My girlfriend and other sister both ordered the gumbo, and my sister liked it, while my girlfriend thought it was too spicy. She’s a lightweight when it comes to spicy foods, so Cajun probably isn’t the go-to place for her. We also got the boudin balls as an appetizer and the sauce that came with them was great and complimented it well (also too spicy for the girlfriend, great! more for me). I’ll definitely be back.

Pretty good Cajun food. I enjoyed the catfish po boy. The fish was crispy and the breading had a really good flavor. The étouffée had a good flavor as well and wasn’t too spicy. The gumbo was strangely thick and dark and wasn’t what I’m accustomed to, not my favorite. The bread pudding was great and had peaches in it which was something different and a nice touch. Overall this is a good place if you want some down home type food, not fine dining.
