Play It Again Sports

Came in looking to learn about ski equipment and perhaps buy some used skis/​boots/​poles. Left with a pair of great quality skis, good quality boots and new poles PLUS their Adjustment and Tuning service, all for less than $ 180! They also mentioned that if there were any issues with the equipment not tuned or adjusted correctly, they would gladly re-​do that for you, or take the equipment back. However, this was nowhere in writing (I asked).

Best customer service you’ll find! My daughters started playing hockey 3 yrs ago and my husband and I knew little about the sport and even less about equipment. All we had to do was walk in with our list of needs and they took care of us ever since. The staff is very knowledgeable, they never tried to oversell us (make us buy super expensive gear.) Now, we help coach kids in our program and are in charge of equipment purchasing and this is the only place we go. We’re there pretty much every Friday now getting equipment, skates sharpened etc. and from the Manger to every staff member there are never any problems. Being minorities in the sports we’ve gone to other stores and the staff often times don’t notice us (probably because they assume we’re not looking for hockey equipment) but not here! I doubt I’d ever go in another store or even another Play It Again location.

I had a great experience selling my ski boots at Play It Again Sports.
I brought in my boots and within about 10 seconds, a sales associate was checking them out, and made me an offer.
A seamless, easy experience.

I had a great buying experience here this past week. Mike, the store manager set myself and my three year old daughter up with some fantastic used (some new) ski equipment. He went above and beyond to make sure we were treated well and got what we needed at an incredible price. And, he was great with my three year old. Great selection of quality used and new merchandise.

Traded ice skates and purchased used skates for my boys. Selection was good and staff was helpful. Will definitely go back when the boys outgrow these skates… in six months.

I started going to Play It Again when my son started ice skating at 4years old. After ice skating was skiing, then LAX, Baseball, and now snowboarding. It’s the same for my daughter. We have gotten all of their equipment here and they are a great price and good condition. The best part is that when my daughter or son outgrown their ski boot (and skis) next year probably, it can bring those back and get a discount on new ski gear for them. I love coming here to get their things, we love sports in my house and we have never came here and left empty handed. kids grow out of things too fast, it’s silly to buy new gear. And because they grow so fast, I know I’ll find things in good condition here.

I called here one afternoon and asked how much to trade him a pair of skates. A man on phone told me it depends on condition age size etc. I get there he barely looks at them and He says its 25% of what they sell them for and admits there $ 30. I was so furious because he was the same guy I spoke to on the phone and I don’t know why he couldn’t have just told me that over the phone. Store is a scam and a rip off. He just wanted to get me in the door. Stay out of there and go to a more quality sports store. If you still feel you need to do business here, treat it like a car dealership. They just want to get you in the door.

Very Dissatisfied!
Went in last week to get skates for my son who is taking skating lessons. The guy in there suggests that I also get protection on his knees so I said ok –thats a good idea. Went in his first class and the instructors suggested he does not wear the pads as they prevent him from learning because he is supposed to get himself on his skates by putting one knee on the ice and with the pads his knee was slipping. Within 7 days I went to return them. I also went to exchange my husband’s used skates to new ones. So the guy at the register says oh these pads are used I can only give you $ 4, meantime just a week ago I paid $ 25 for them!!! I said yes he used them for 1 hr he is like thats all I can do! They are rip offs — Pay $ 25 dollars a week ago and have my kid wear them for an hour and all of the sudden they depreciated 84%!!! I just returned my husband’s used skates, told them «you just lost a sale» and walked out! Got an awsome pair of skates from LLBean down the street listed $ 5 cheaper than what Play It Again Sports was selling them for. Add a coupon I just got me an bargain AND I got to keep the knee pads that they were willing to give me $ 4 for.
Never again will I step foot in that place!

Nice people. My son mistakenly sold a lacrosse helmet and they were nice enough to sell it back to use for only what they put into it. Great selection too.

DO NOT BUY HERE!!! Just thinking about how this placed ripped me off STILL makes my blood boil. Total criminals — they took one look at us newbies — my daughter was starting hockey for the first time in the fall — and totally took advantage of our ignorance. The sales staff there know every trick in the book — bait and switch and everything.
First they persuaded us we needed an expensive ($ 90) right handed stick (because my daughter is right-​handed), never thinking to check out her grip (turned out she needed a left-​handed stick, and a plain wooden one for $ 20 would have been fine). The salesman tried repeatedly to lead us to the most expensive gear — actually rolled his eyes at my husband when I said we didn’t need a top of the line bag, and picked out a cheaper one. He showed us all the 2^nd-​hand hockey pants on a rack, each of which were marked at $ 20, and then somehow we ended up at the register with a pair that cost $ 50 — and they are ripped and everything.
Not only that, but they refused to take back the stick when I tried to return it, saying that they couldn’t take it without a special sticker that was supposed to be on the receipt — and guess what? there was no sticker on my receipt.
I tell everyone who will listen to stay away from here. It is a franchise, so I don’t know how the other locations compare, but at this one — BUYER BEWARE!!!
PS — it makes me sick to even have to give one star — why can’t we post a skull & crossbones or something for these type of dreadful places?

I went in looking for used ski boots. Given that it’s near the end of the winter season, I called ahead to see if they had any. They said they had some new ones in the store and their used boots were in storage, but they could get them if I knew what size. I went in anyway, not knowing what size, but figuring I could try on the new boots to find out. When I got there there weren’t a lot of sales associates on the floor, and in fact I couldn’t find any ski boots and had to wait in line at the register to even ask. It took a little while, and then was told they were on the floor by the skis — in boxes. I tried some on and found a comfortable size. Since there was only that one pair — and it was a junior size — I asked at the counter if someone could grab an adult pair from storage. After trying them on and walking around a bit, not happy with them, finally a sales associate came over to help. His name was Mark and totally turned my ski boot buying experience around. He sized me properly and discovered I was looking at boots a few sizes too big. He brought me to the storage room where I could try on multiple pairs. He took the time to analyze what I liked and didn’t like about each pair, the shape of my foot, sensitivity in my left shin & calf, and probably spent an hour with me until I finally found the right pair. It was well worth the wait, very informative, and made me feel like a valued customer. I can’t wait to get out on the slopes with my new (used) boots!

I love Play It Again, don’t get me wrong. This location is fine — it has good selection for a variety of sports. It’s clean. It’s well organized. There is a lot of great stuff jammed into that store front. I give that a 5 star rating.
However.
I discovered this morning after my game that my (now old) skates are literally broken. Like, a danger to my health and well-​being broken. I panicked a little bit because I have another game in 48 hours. In those 48 hours, I need to find new skates within a certain price range that are also comfortable enough to basically skate in for the first time in a game. This is a really tall order.
I went in to Play It Again, hoping that there magically would be perfect skates for me. I beelined to the used skates section (which was well organized, clean, and had signs up with details about how to choose sizes). The used section was a little bit lacking, but I’m understanding — I recognize that it’s mid-​February and hockey season is winding down. That’s fine. I found a few pairs that would fit me, but they were mostly over $ 200. For used skates.
No way.
I checked out the cheaper new skates on display. I found 2 that I could probably be fine with aaaaaand they either did not have the specific skates in stock or they were in stock, but not even close to my size. I didn’t find the new skates section quite as well organized as the used skates, so that was a little frustrating. I took a deep, calming breath and started to inspect each box looking first for my size and second for the price (and 3^rd for a 25% off sticker). I literally found one pair of skates that was my size. Thankfully. And it was within my price range. Thankfully. And there was a 25% off sticker. Eff yeah.
I went through the process of lacing them up, trying them on, walking around, all that stuff when I realized…(and this is what earned the 3 star rating)…
Not once did an employee even acknowledge me. I saw employees helping other people, but not me. I did have questions, but none that really warranted me seeking out someone to help me.
So I tried on my skates. I did the math. I looked up reviews of the skates on my smartphone. I watched a youtube video that detailed the features of the skate. I realized that if I wanted to have them baked, I needed to buy skates tonight so they would have ample time to cool and to set. So, I bought them.
When I went up the counter, THEN someone started acknowledging me. I bought my skates, and then someone took me back to wait while my skates were being baked. I was sitting there, just waiting, when FINALLY, after having been in the store for an hour at that point, an employee came up to me and asked if I needed help.
Seriously.
It took an hour of my trying on skates and walking around and finally buying them (then waiting for them to be baked) for someone to even acknowledge that I was in the store.
Kind of sucky customer service warrants fewer stars than the store is actually worth.

Finally decided after playing hockey my whole life to invest in a BRAND new pair of skates (not just new to me), and went in here one day. Ive been here a few times before for sticks and things and it always seemed fine to me. I was impressed with their selection of new skates as well as used.
Mark, who helped size me for skates, was VERY knowledgeable about not only the correct sizing for different kinds of skates, but the differences in how they are built and perform. This was invaluable to making the right choice!

A sports thrift store-​i like the idea and it is executed well.
My 9 year old son, who is playing organized baseball for the first time, needed a glove. Rather than buy a new glove, which would take a good year to break in properly (by which time he’d outgrow it anyway) we sought a gently used already broken in glove. From a selection of about 30 gloves, we narrowed the choices based on fit to about 5. Perhaps somewhat predictably, my son picked the oldest, ugliest, dirtiest glove of the bunch. It even has someone else’s black permanent marker name on it. When i asked him why he wanted that particular glove, the seemingly worst of the bunch, he replied «its prolly caught the most balls dont you think?» Well how could i argue that logic.
The store is very organized by category, new and old, golf, fitness, baseball/​softball, hockey, snow sports, water sports, lacrosse, soccer, football, rollerblades, tennis… whatever your sport, you are likely to find the equipment and gear you need. Most of it is in good shape, i imagine they are trade-​ins for upgrades or gently used items people turned in after quickly regressing to their couch potato ways. The service was fantastic despite being a fairly busy saturday afternoon.
At the end of the day we bought:
–the oldest, ugliest, dirtiest, already names but best glove: $ 5
–a used bat: $ 12
–15 used baseballs: $ 15
–Two new black baseball pants: $ 30
–New batting gloves: $ 12
–A cup: $ 8
His first catch in a game with that old ugly dirty glove: Priceless.

While the general idea of reusing someone’s sporting equipment grossed me out at first, I must admit that two trips to this location have completely changed my perspective on this matter.
I was in need of ice hockey pucks, at least five of them and this being near my girlfriend’s place, this was the logical place to hit up. A quick drive later, I parked in the adjacent lot and walked right in. Immediately, amidst the mess, I was pleasantly surprised. It didn’t smell of someone’s sweaty hockey pads or moldy socks. Instead a vast store lay in front of me with sporting equipment everywhere from floor to ceiling. All kinds of sporting equipment. From soccer goals to hockey sticks, golf clubs and baseball bats. Everywhere!
I found a giant bin full of pucks and grabbed a bunch. This was the transition I made from previously buying things new to used. After all, hockey pucks can’t be covered in someone’s sweat.
Long store short the pucks were cheap and were in great shape and I have put them to good use since… […]
A few weeks later I broke one of my sticks while trying to do some slapshot drills. I figured that the broken stick would be a good time to try and maybe switch from wooden sticks to composite ones which are much lighter and get you more torque. I decided to go to Pure Hockey to see if they have anything worthwhile but their cheapest composite sticks were priced at $ 125. So again, I drove to this place and found some entry level sticks for $ 45. I grabbed two. They were in great condition and are terrific.
I’ll be coming back to this location in the future. The selection is great, the prices as well and the staff is both friendly and helpful.

I signed my kid up for hockey, so I went to the hockey shop and asked how much the full kit would be new. $ 400! Not including skates.
After I stopped hyperventilating, I went to Play it Again. They hooked me up with a mix of new and used stuff for $ 200, which actually didn’t seem that bad after the initial shock of $ 400.
I didn’t know what to get, so the staff was very helpful and went around the store with us getting all the stuff.
Now my little one is well on his way to playing for the Eagles. Of it he really sucks, the Terriers.

4.5 stars cause it’s a little cramped and hectic on satudays but… Great place. I bought new skates there last week. Came back today for skates and a ski helmet for my daughter. $ 31 with skate sharpening. Service is excellent. I also sold them old kids ski boots and a helmet. Got $ 16 in trade in value.
Definitely use a gps or good map to find it though.
