The UPS Store

I called before going in as I had never printed at a UPS store, I wondered whether to put what I needed on a flash drive or if I could access my e-​mail there like I do at Kinko’s. The girl told me to just e-​mail my file to them, and one color print would be waiting when I got there. I get there, and it is waiting as promised. The print cost between $.40 and $.50, however there is an additional $ 3 fee tacked on for printing from e-​mail. I was in a rush so I had to pay it, however I later called corporate to complain. This morning I received an e-​mail from the manager, Mark Jones, telling me I would have gotten charged a fee no matter what and that he was sorry for the misunderstanding. I called the store, outraged, and he said there was no way I could have avoided paying the $ 3 fee and that it was industry standard. When I reminded him that I could have gone out of my way and gone to Kinko’s like I usually do, he seemed stunned that you can print at Kinko’s and only pay for prints, not 6X the cost of the print in fees. I had to argue the ridiculousness of charging people fees without informing them beforehand until he finally agreed to grant me a $ 3 refund, which I never bothered to collect. The principle of it left a bad taste in my mouth, I wish I knew how to escalate this further but I think corporate fully supports these deceptive practices. I’m sure it’s how they make most of their money.

Great service here and the manager is always super helpful. Easy to ship and pick up packages. I rent a box here and it’s convenient. They have helped me carry out heavy boxes many times and are always attentive.

Of all the UPS stores in the area, I go out of my way to visit this store. The manager goes out of his way to be pleasant and friendly, and seems to instill the same customer service standards for his employees as well. Every time I visit I’m happy to see each customer is asked how they are doing today, and I’m always offered a «have a nice day» as they I’m heading out. Maybe I’m too easily pleased, (and am too much of an online shopper/​returner) but in my experience this is not how most UPS stores operate – the standard seems to be brusque service and mild annoyance at any questions. I generally have my shipping labels printed out ahead of time, but from the few times I haven’t, I believe their rates are about as reasonable as you can get from a UPS store.
Bottom Line: For the price of sending packages these days, it’s nice to still be able to leave with a smile on your face.
