Although we are involved with death on a daily basis, we never forget that completing all the necessary arrangements for any type of service is a serious task that most people are only directly responsible for a few times in their life. Our funeral directors, Jeff Lovelidge and Bob Johnson and our staff are available to assist you and your family 24 hours a day. We will help make the arrangements you desire; within your financial means and help you make the service a personal, meaningful and unique tribute to your loved one.

History

Established in 1930.

In 1930, Hubert P. Harkins established the Harkins Funeral Home, which was located in the building across from the current funeral home. This building is in current use as the dining room of the Delta Italian Restaurant. There were two additional funeral homes in Delta at this time; the Stockton Holden Funeral Home, and the John L. Norris Funeral Home.

In 1940, Hubert and his wife Nora E. (Findley) purchased the current Harkins Funeral Home building. Many of the fine furnishings of the funeral home were purchased from the Rennert Hotel in Baltimore, which closed in 1939. During the summer of 1940 Hubert Harkins purchased the business of John L. Norris. Following his death in December, 1952, Hubert’s son, John assumed the business and was assisted by his mother, Nora.

In July of 1982, Jeff came to work with John. Jeff worked for John until the time of John’s retirement in January of 1992, when he purchased the business and property from the Harkins’ family.

I’ve been with Harkins Funeral Home since July, 1982. I grew up in Upper Darby, PA and lived in Boston and San Diego prior to moving to Delta. I am actively involved in the funeral home and you will most likely meet with me.

The funeral home has a wonderful group of people who are dedicated, caring and sincere and are here to serve you and your family.
