Candy Haven & Cakes

We came here to check out their chocolate and candy selection. They have a pretty impressive variety of handmade types of chocolate, walnut clusters and similar and different types of fudge mixes. I was hoping they would have more than original and pecan fudge. They had a decent selection of hand picked candy as well. It’s also nice that it’s right next to Colache Haven and you can walk right through it without having to go outside.
Their forte seems to be their cakes, we may need to try one of their cakes next time and figure out how good their cakes are.
They are not cheap but the good bakeries rarely are.

I needed some cupcakes last Sunday for my mothers impromptu birthday gathering in Denton. Growing up here, I knew they had some great products. I called them on a Sunday at 10am, hoping to get a dozen cups quickly. The lady told me that They could have an order prepared for pickup by 1. I told her nevermind, I needed them in about a half hour. She went ahead and cranked out a batch for me in record time, and they were amazing. Thanks again for making my mothers birthday that much more special! Your service rocks!

I got a birthday cake and it tasted mediocre. The service was also good for the price.

Don’t ever do business with Candy Haven if you have a food allergy. We mentioned ours when we placed an order on Monday, they said it wouldn’t be a problem. We go to pick it up today and see that they never bothered to write it down. We ask, and are told that it’s an ingredient they’ve used for 18 years, and they weren’t about to change the recipe. If we hadn’t noticed and hadn’t asked, one of us would have wound up in the hospital. But they think their recipes are more important than that, I suppose.
They were also defensive, rude, essentially accused us of lying, etc. etc., but that’s not why I’m writing this. (There’s PLENTY of that in other 1-​star reviews…) I’m writing this so no one gets hurt.

The customer service horrible. I went here for a wedding cake tasting. When the sales person realized I wasn’t getting the higher package, she became very disrespectful. I would never do business with them.
The cake tasting was on the 29 of Feb. I posted this review while still in the parking lot. I drove 40 mins and didn’t go all the way through with the cake tasting.

Candy Haven came to the rescue! When Romano’s Bakery shut down and left all their clients without prior notice, we were frantically looking for someone to make our wedding cakes at a fair price in just two weeks. My sister-​in-​law used Candy Haven for their wedding years ago and liked them so it only made sense that we contacted them to see what they could do.
My mother-​in-​law did most of the communication since both my husband and I were traveling for our bachelor and bachelorette parties. Ashley was super and made the whole process easy! They hosted the taste testing for the parents and we ended up going with the amaretto for the bride’s cake and chocolate for the groom’s. They were delivered on time and looked perfect. I forgot the flowers that were supposed to go on top, so that was totally my bad. (1 of 2 things I botched on my wedding day.)
Since we ended up eating almost all of the freezer «one year» cake, my husband and I will probably just order another one to celebrate our anniversaries!

Very, very poor Customer Service! Won’t be back. We had full intentions of ordering a large Wedding Cake here and were very excited to visit the store and make our selection. Couldn’t have gone worse. We were told repeatedly that we just didn’t understand the process. What??? Sales girl actually said to the Aunt paying for the Cake — «I wasn’t talking to you, I was talking to the Bride». We were a party of 6 that flew in from both coasts to share this special day with the Bride to be. Couldn’t have been worse! Their cake may be good but it’s not worth the treatment and unacceptable Customer Service.
Take a minute and dig deeper into the reviews that aren’t being currently posted and you will see all of the negative ones. How did they get those off the main page??? Hummmm…

Our wedding cakes came from Candy Haven and they were a huge hit! We had a disaster occur with the first cake order at a different venue and Candy Haven took care of us when I went in and explained! We did a cake tasting on the spot– everything was to die for, but we chose the marble cake with fudge filling and butter cream icing for the Brides cake & strawberry cake with fuge filling and chocolate butter cream icing for the Grooms cake. I don’t quite have photos, but both cakes were everything expected and absolutely beautiful! Plus they tasted so great! Both cakes were moist with so much flavor to them. My husband and I are so very thankful and I would tell anyone in this area or close to– don’t waste your time anywhere else– the pricing was great and the cakes are phenomenal! I will surely be going back for any cake I need in the future!

Ashley at Candy Haven was able to book our tasting within 24 hours of contacting her and was super professional, enthusiastic, and helpful. The cake samples were delicious and their range of basic design options was astoundingly diverse and flexible. She anticipated our needs and helped us realize the perfect wedding cake for our style and event. She even went so far as to suggest adding two tuxedo chocolate-​dipped strawberries and reproducing the monogram from our invitations in icing on the complimentary groom’s cake, and matching the decorative icing on the wedding cake to our wedding colors. Plus, their pricing structure is competitive and an astounding bargain with the level of service we received.
While they were setting up our cake at the venue, my husband brought in the homemade cheesecake topped with a brownie tier that he had made to go with the wedding and groom’s cake. The Candy Haven delivery people went out of their way to help him set up his special cake addition by trimming the support dowels, decorating it with chocolate-​dipped strawberries, adding a finishing ribbon of fudge icing icing to the tier seam, and even repaired the cheesecake when the side split upon adding the silhouette pet toppers that matched our silhouette grooms topper on the wedding cake.
All in all, the wedding cake and grooms’ cake was astoundingly beautiful, moist, and delicious, and the assistance they provided helped make our own contribution to the cake trifecta fit in perfectly with the other two cakes – not only did they look good, they made us look good, too!
Even though we live in S. Arlington, we will definitely be visiting them again to try their handmade candies and kolaches. If the quality of their cakes and their awesome people are any indication, it will definitely be worth the trip.

I originally spoke too rash on a previous review and had to change it. I have been displeased with customer service there before but literally only once and still prefer them to edible arrangements. Their variety of treats make an impression on your eyes and tastebuds try any truffle ヾ(*´｀*)ﾉ or cupcake.
Honestly, I’m tired of the everyday candy bar and enjoy trying new things which Candy Haven provides with every purchase. Would I recommend a friend or acquaintance there? Absolutely because it’s rare and far inbetween that we find local businesses that brings quality to its community. Something I’d recommend to a friend is their delicious double dipped strawberries, a white Russian truffle, espresso truffle and any cluster I like their pecan cluster.

Now. The price is where I struggle with the full 5 star rating. It IS a bit pricey. But I’ve had great experiences there in the past, consistent quality with the candy and the food. The cupcakes are too big and the flavors they have a good and some a creative!
Now. Today, in particular, we had an awesomely funny comedy of errs visit to the location, that was met with equal levels of humor and satirical responses from the staff. Any place that can hold their own in a respectful and fun manner has gained a loyal customer outta me.

Sorry folks, but this was just a tough experience. The young girl that waited on us was lovely, sweet, beautiful, and very helpful. Unfortunately, her hands were tied when it came to pricing and decision making for a custom cake. Telling us they just didn’t want the job or didn’t have time would have been preferable to the attempted gouging we were subjected to. My son-​in-​law was just promoted to Major in the US Army. We just found out on Monday and had to celebrate when family was in town. The biggest disappointment, however, was that we wanted a basic gold oak leaf insignia, not fondant. We were willing to pay a bit extra, but were shocked that they would charge an extra $ 30 for that one thing on a $ 39 cake. Absurd! It was maybe a five minute extra at any average bakery. I feel certain they just did not want the job, so after agonizing over it for a few hours, they got their wish. We called and cancelled. We are very happy with our other option, who are bending over backwards to please us for this very special occasion. And at much lower cost for just the cake. No extra charges for the insignia.
This business needs to start reading their Unilocal reviews and listening to their customers.
Positives: the chocolate was pretty good, if expensive. And again, the girl that helped us was a keeper, a real doll.

Tried to upcharge $ 30 for small, simple piping detail on $ 40 cake. Tried to get a small 8″ round cake for a military promotion. 5 days out, no fondant. SIMPLE!!! It was Major’s promo, so small ~2 in gold Oak leaf insignia on top… $ 30??? All thre scrolling on side was free, any additional text free, but $ 30 for a simple leaf? Anyone qualified to work in a bakery it should take like 5 minutes tops. Criminal. And for a hero no less.
That being said the girl working the front was very nice, but overall very disappointing. Very disrespectful.
Go to Kroger, Sam’s or anywhere else. Better customer service, better price, and probably same or better taste (their kolaches need some help).

We used Candy Haven for every birthday cake my family of six had for about 4 years (which translates into about six a year for four years).
The last cake we bought there was during July for my very pregnant daughter on her birthday. I was extremely specific about her wanting a yellow cake and even had a conversation about the fact she was pregnant, hormonal and only wanted yellow.
To my surprise when we cut into it, it was chocolate. I was so unhappy. I called them the next day to explain what happened and I was not offered a refund, but I was told they would give me my next cake free. I asked if I needed to come pick up a slip or certificate or something but was told «No, we will have a log of it at the front counter when you are ready».
Six months later I went to order the cake and was told the offer was only good till the end of the year. I explained no one ever told me there was a time limit and further explained we hadn’t had a need for a cake until then. I explained how we were frequent customers over the years and that I had recommended my sister there for both her wedding and groom cake. I asked could they please check with a manager and explain the situation. I was put on hold, they came back a few minutes later and told the manager said no.
That is the last cake I purchased there.

It was a great treat to stop in after being away from my hometown for 20 yrs. i picked out the candy and was helped quickly. However the lady checking me out was very unapproachable. Tried to have a convo with her telling I haven’t been there/​home in 20 yrs and i went looking for them at their old location. She couldn’t be bothered to have a smile for an old returning customer, who specifically stopped at her business. The treats good as usual … Customer service could be better.

The service here is terrible and the deserts are decent. One of the employees, a slimmer white woman in her 20s whose name I didn’t catch, threatened me for walking in a few minutes late to pick up an order which I desperately needed for an event. I didn’t know when they closed. I’m not from the area. I was just told to pick up the order. The door wasn’t locked so I figured they stayed open a little longer today. Bad employees are bad for business and from my one experience here, this is a bad business.

After initially getting our appointment cancelled, they made up for it by delivering incredible cakes for my wedding. Cake was very good and the decoration was fantastic.

Ehh. The chocolate candies are pretty good, but they’re also really expensive. I’ve picked out truffles and caramels for a birthday present before, but I don’t generally buy for myself, as many of the candies are just too overpriced. The cupcakes are however a different story. I tried the cappuccino/​coffee kind, and it was disgusting– and I mean gross. Overly sugary icing, dry cake, and just an overall nasty flavor. I asked the girl at the front when the cupcakes were made and she said they were freshly made that morning (I got there right after they opened). So either she lied and they were old, or their fresh baked cupcakes taste like two day old cupcakes– either way I don’t plan on going back for cake.

Recently stopped by for a pound-​filled box of truffles for my post-​dinner-​birthday treat since cake simply didn’t seem appealing at the time (I’m picky when it comes to sweets).
We’ve been meaning to stop by this little sweet/​kolache shop for quite some time but finally had the time to today. Its a great location– right off the highway with a private lot. Major downfall? The hours. I mean, you pretty much have to squeeze in a few, ridiculous hours throughout the week to be lucky enough to get there when they’re open. I was craving a sausage kolache but they were already closed at 1pm on a Sunday — seriously?! Must be a Denton thing (because we all know Dallas is smart and would stay open for business aka $).
Anyway, we were able too choose quite a variety of truffles and special chocolates for about $ 20– cherry cordials, chocolate covered orange crème, strawberry kreme, «Kaitys» (turtles), chocolate covered oreos, and so much more. I loved how much you could get in just one box.
Great, friendly service and yummy sweets. I recommend; if you’re able to get in when they’re open ;)

This place is the best! They have done a few cakes for us, and are now our go to place for cakes in the metroplex. We live in Plano so it isn’t because of convenience that we use them. It’s because the quality, and service we’ve received over the past couple of years.
I find it hard to believe some of these other reviews. This place is absolutely worth the drive north.
