DATCU Credit Union

I was provided the loan from a local dealership when I purchased a car. The original loan was for $ 42,000 and I made all payments on time, even paying thousands ahead of schedule. I have an auto-​pay service so I don’t always see the account, but when I got it I noticed a $ 39.95 fee every month on the account. I called and was not able to get an explanation at first, finally I was told it was a monthly late fee. I told them, I paid every month, even paid an extra $ 2000 on my first payment. They applied the first large payment to the principle and not towards my loan and started charging me late fees. No one contacted me and I got no notice. After dealing with several uncooperative customer service reps, they have no interest in refunding the fees. Bottom line is, I’ve overpaid for 6 months and besides getting their principle and interest, they have stolen an additional $ 40 a month. I’d find a more honest institution to borrow from in the future. Do not make the same mistake I made by choosing DATCU.

I have been a member of this credit union for many years. My entire family are members as well. I will no longer refer any one to this credit union. VERY sad day! The customer service has been so bad. LOOONG hold times to call in and speak with a personal banker. VERY unprofessional Tellers inside the bank. Not good at all.

DATCU is a poor excuse of a credit union. They are really no different than a big heartless bank when it comes to treating their customers. I can’t recommend anyone open an account or start a banking relationship with DATCU. I have been turned down twice for a credit card with them, even when they sent me an unsolicited letter in the mail saying I was pre-​approved for a credit card, only to tell me after I applied I was not approved. I have an auto loan with them and have zero negative credit issues on my credit history and a 100% on time payment history.
If I had known that they would fool me again, I wouldn’t even have applied because despite saying pre-​approved is is not and it is a negative hard inquiry on my credit score. My score is average to good, but I want it to be better, so unless you have stellar credit I would say not to apply for credit with DATCU as you have a much higher chance of getting turned down compared to other lenders. Once I pay off the car loan which is really a car loan for my daughter since she couldn’t qualify for one, I am not ever doing business with DATCU, there is no need and there are better credit union and banks out there.

Love DATCU! I usually use the datcu close to home, but had to stop here at the Denton location today. I love how sweet and helpful everyone was, and fast. My kids of course loved the free popcorn.

This is the worst credit union out there. It started as a friendly credit union for teachers is now just as bad as the big banks. I have had an account for over 10 years and I am tired of their shady practices. The customer service agents are extremely rude. They will blame you for their mistakes. Avoid their Mastercard it only works when it is convenient for them. I never got any type of apology from DATCU credit union. Their telephone agents said it was my fault for their credit card not working despite having money available. Just avoid them like the plague.

If you have very simple banking needs and like to go into a physical bank datcu is great. Otherwise they are terrible. Folks at location are friendly and professional, that’s about it. Phone customer s3rvice is the worst. Your debit card is «state locked» can’t be us3d out side texas. You have to call and give an itinerary to get it unlock3d. This also causes issues with online purchases outside of the state. The phone ap is the worst I’ve seen. Painfully slow and lack very basic function. Worst part is all customer service numbers are Texas bankers hours only. Want to talk about a loan. Better take the day off because if you work normal hours you will never reach someone. Out of the central time zone and got card locked? Better call before 4pm centreal time no matter where you are or you’ll be left wi th out access to your funds.

I wish I would have looked at these reviews before using them on a loan. There int rate was good but customer service was bad and the good rate doesn’t make up for them being unprofessional

I love DATCU. They are friendly, helpful, and quick to help service my needs. They learned who I was after just a visit or two.

I believe that this bank is absolutely awful in terms of customer service. My husband made the mistake of refinancing his vehicle through this company and after even a few days late they harass you constantly about it. Furthermore, they threaten to repo the vehicle and get really snotty with you on the phone. They are absolutely incapable of doing what you ask them because my husband gave them written permission SEVERAL times stating that I (his wife) could talk about his account and get info on it. They claimed that they never received such permission and finally after several attempts they claimed to have gotten it but then a rude lady says «just because you have permission to speak about the account doesn’t mean you have permission to make decisions». Their special accounts department and other reps need to be retrained on customer service and not giving a smart attitude to customers. It is like pulling teeth to get them to work with you, they just like to be difficult I think. We will never finance anything or bank with them again.

DATCU is against donating to local charity when it comes to NSF fees. As I explained to management, their tax deductible, unplanned, unearned, contribution of $ 58 in extra cash would help local charities such as Denton Animal Shelter Foundation, Friends of the Family, the Red Cross etc… It also would have retained my customer loyalty of over 10 years, and it would better reflect DATCU’s slogan of being a proud supporter of its community.
Instead they said it wasn’t an option. They offered no reason.
For the record, this was the first time I have ever incurred NSF fees with DATCU. and the way it happened was through automatic drafting from my phone provider Verizon. Which tried twice to pull an electronic payment.
That was free money for DATCU, which charged me $ 29 for each transaction.
If you incur accidental NSF fees, I urge you to ask DATCU to give them to charity. It’s free money for the bank. If they say no, ask them why and write up a review.
Potential DATCU customers need to know that this bank is AGAINST NSF fees for charity.

I love DATCU they are the best!
I just wish they would let you do deposits at the ATM like Wells Fargo. Still 100% better then any other bank.
