Denton Veterinary Center

Some people in the neighborhood recommended this vet, I have had great experiences here so far.
Everyone have been really friendly to me and my dog. My dog has a number of different health issues but they have been really good about diagnosing her conditions as far as I know. They have a lab and can run blood work onsite for most things, which is nice so you can be sure you have the right medicine before you leave.
It’s been fairly easy to get appointments here, they are only open two Saturday’s per week but at least one time I called on a Friday and they had an availability the next day.

I can’t put into words how grateful I am to have found Dr. Wuensche! He goes above and beyond any vet I’ve ever met. He is compassionate, caring, and I can truly tell how much he loves his job/​patients! I used to drive an 1+hr each way to bring my French Bulldog here, & it was always worth it. Dr. Wuensche & his staff always eases my frantic mind by the end of each visit. If anyone in the DFW area is looking for a vet, I highly recommend them!

I am usually the type to just brush things off but this place was ridiculous. My pup was hit by a car in October and I took her in to a surgeon the next day that did X-​rays on her poor leg and castes it up. He informed me to not change the cast until January. December was quickly approaching and it was dirty and I really wanted to just go ahead and get it changed. I come to Denton Veterinary to get the bandage changed and when I get there they inform me that they scheduled me for Thursday on accident instead on that day (Tuesday). That’s just fine! They were nice enough to fit me in but they sent me into what was an entirely bare room in the back. No counter top under the hanging cabinets, NO EXAM TABLE, and I’m sitting on a hard wooden stool in the corner while my dog wanders on the floor of this completely empty room. The doctor comes in 30 minutes later and speaks to me extremely condescendingly about how I should have gotten her bandage changed every week since the accident. I tell him what the surgeon said and he said «don’t you think a human would’ve wanted it changed sooner?» I couldn’t even believe how rude and smug this guy was. I don’t care at all if this is the cheapest place around. Worst service ever. Don’t go here. Oh and they quoted me $ 60 cheaper than it cost and blamed it on having to wash her little 6in leg.

The Dr’s and staff are the absolute best in Denton! When my dog had some pretty serious bladder and skin issues, they were booked up, but allowed me to drop her off so they could work her in throughout the day. The staff was so kind to her and the doctors explained everything in full detail to me once I came to pick her up. I will be coming back and cannot thank them enough for making my baby better!!!

Great veterinary place! Excellent doctors, awesome staff, nice facility. Doctors take time to answer and research pet owner questions and concerns.

I am so grateful for Dr. Wuensche and the care he is providing my Border Collie. Unfortunately, she has contracted a very bad fungal infection which continues to cause complications. Dr. Wuensche is kind, compassionate, and attentive to our sweet girl. I highly recommend him as a vet!

Myself, many friends, and family all took our pets to Dr. Weunsche while he was still at Southridge Animal Hospital and followed him to DVC when it came about. A few years in, the kind of service I had grown accustomed to changed and it seemed like everything was more about money and less about quality of care. I’ll spare the details but will say I no longer utilize their services and never recommend them to anyone. It’s disappointing because I used to hold them in such high regard…

I am reviewing on behalf of my mom. She took her new rescue puppy and left in tears. She was told her dog was the most vicious dog they had ever seen after cutting her nails without a muzzle and cutting one too short causing her to bleed. They did not finish and said they would have to put her under to complete it another time. She is a very sweet dog but was obviously scared and hurt.

I have a feeling I may have just ended up at this vet on the wrong day at the wrong time, but my experience here was nothing short of a nightmare. My cat has been dealing with a bladder infection over the past month or two under another vet’s care, but after multiple failed medicine attempts to fix it, I decided to try to find another vet in the area. I found DVC listed as Denton Record Chronicles «Best Vet 2013» and figured it’d be a safe bet. My cat’s condition had greatly worsened overnight and I was relieved that DVC was able to get me in same day with an appointment.
I arrived at the clinic about 15 mins early to fill out new patient paperwork and hopefully let my letting guy be seen sooner to get some relief. The new location is in a very nice office building and it had a good feel when I walked in, unlike many other vets in the area. When I arrived there was only one poor girl working the front desk by herself and she seemed pretty frazzled. After helping about 5 people that walking in after me, she eventually got to putting in my paperwork and led me back to an exam room. This was still a couple of minutes before my 2:30pm appointment, but it didn’t look like there was anyone else in the exam rooms and I saw multiple staff members hanging out and chatting behind the back desk, so I figured we’d be seen soon.
But they forgot us. For almost an hour, they forgot we were waiting. Apparently it was a «day from hell,» with only one doctor and one receptionist… or that’s what they told me when I was finally able to chase someone down to help us over 50 minutes later. I reluctantly left my cat to try to find someone earlier and the place was a ghost town… not a single other patient or staff member in sight. A pizza had been delivered while I was in the waiting room and apparently break time took precedence over my cat’s well being, who was near passing out from pain this whole time. Bad deal. The halfhearted apologies I did receive were more of a «we’re not normally like this» excuse rather than a genuine apology.
The vet, who never introduced herself, came in and said they were just going to take his temperature and would bring him right back. 15 minutes later another lady came back without my cat saying she had done xrays on him, checked him over (not in the room with me or letting me know any of this), and was about to sedate him to begin a procedure. I did not consent to ANY of this and didn’t even have a chance to see my cat beforehand in case something went wrong. She finally took the time to go over the issue, squatting down next to me like I was a child and telling me that we needed to follow her recommendation or he «won’t make it through the weekend.» I honestly still don’t know if I even believed her. They wanted me to do a few extra things and take him to the animal ER for observation after wards, quoting me almost $ 1,300. Unfortunately, there was no trust here, but I wasn’t willing to risk my pet’s life on my frustration, so I approved the most basic $ 441.72 treatment and opted to take him home after wards.
I’m thankful that they figured out what was going on with my pet and were able to give him relief, but I NEVER will go back to Denton Veterinary Center based on the poor treatment my cat and I received. The staff was friendly when I could find them, but it did not make up for the issues we experienced. I’ve heard Family Pet Clinic on Teasley is supposed to be better, so I’ll be giving them a try next.

I do not believe they had the best interest in saving my pets life. I am immediately looking for a quality vet. What a nightmare.

So I’ve had a mixed bag with Dr. Wuensche and Dr. Ingram in the 7 years I’ve been seeing him. Ultimately, I am searching for a new vet here in Denton. Don’t mistake me, Dr. Wuensche is such a great person and so caring and Bobbi his office manager is the coolest lady ever. I’ve locked horns with Dr. Ingram, though.
Firstly, I was sold on Dr. Wuensche when he was able to improve the quality of life of my cat by 200% when no one else was able to and the last couple of years I was able to give my cat were just priceless and I can never thank him enough for that. However, I took my cat in for treatment one day and Dr. Ingram was on duty and she told me that there couldn’t be anymore treatment and that I needed to let him go. So I asked her to give me a few minutes alone with him as this was sudden news and I thought it was only fair and appropriate. Right? Well, I had 10 minutes in the room before she was knocking on the door and I asked for a just a little longer and she had the audacity to ask me how much longer I needed. Maybe I was being too sensitive, but I was infuriated. It was a sensitive time.
Then there were your typical visits in between with my other two cats. He successfully treated my cat’s psycho alopecia, gave them shots, etc.
Then I brought my cat in for a swollen foot he had been limping on for almost a week. Dr. W diagnosed it as a bug bite, gave him an antihistamine, and sent him home. Another week passed and no improvement so I took my cat back and Dr. Ingram saw him. She said it was a broken foot. How you can diagnose a broken foot as a bug bite in the first place I don’t know, but I was not amused. So they put a cast on my cat and sent me home with an anti-​inflammatory. It made my cat sick and by sick I mean barfing up everything in his system, stomach seizures, and him laying in a corner screaming in pain. I had to take him to the emergency room where they told me I was lucky to get him in when I did. When I got home I researched the drug. It’s not approved for medicating cats and has been known to kill cats. I understand that there’s just not alot in the way of choices when it comes to pet prescriptions and you have to go with what you got, but I feel like the vet’s office should have warned me about possible side effects and risks associated with the drug so that I could make the decision of whether or not to medicate him. (By the way it’s 3 years later and my cat still has problems with his foot which I attribute to a delayed diagnosis and treatment.) I called the office the next day to let them know about the incident and no one really apologized for the lack of information. My cat damn near died and I’ve learned a lesson in the importance of researching drugs now. What a mess THAT whole thing was. Anyway. Between all that and their crazy high prices for vaccinations ($ 142 is what they just told me to have my 1 dog vaccinated), I unfortunately will be looking for a new vet. :-/

I absolutely ADORE Dr Wuensche and his staff here at Denton Vet Center. I taught high school history for a year and I was randomly talking to one of my students about my cats (I’m a proud mama) and he suggested that I take them to his father for any veterinarian needs. And he was amazing! Extra bonus that the office was literally over the hill from my Denton apartment.
Dr Wuensche is so smart and kind and funny. Whenever I take my cats anywhere, it’s kind of an event — in that they are crying and making death sounds, and then try to hide under ANYTHING once they’re out of their carriers. Dr Wuensche and the vet assistant was totally cool about it and patient while I tried to wrangle them out of corners and onto the exam table.
We even talked about his son’s grades and conduct (he was a great kid), so it was a two-​fer: annual exams for my cats and parent-​teacher conference!
I love such efficiency.
Seriously, bring your pets here. You cant ask for better care for your animal babies.

My owner took me to get my rabies shot yesterday. I usually ride on her lap Britney Spears-​style in the car, but whenever we come here I have to get in this annoying kennel because there’s tons of obnoxious, yappy dogs at the center. Anyway, I don’t mind coming here because Dr. Wuensche knows an attractive cat when he sees one — yours truly — and he never forgets to remind me of the fact. «You’re a good looking cat,» he says, while cradling me in his arms. That’s right doctor… This fluffy face needs to be on the next Whiskers commercial.

My wittle kittens-​wittens, Lasco-​Wasco-​Fiasco, wuvs Dr. Wuensche at Denton Vet Center because he rubs his tummy-​wummy and he wears these crazy Hawaiian shirts. I didn’t know where to go when it came to getting his shots, since this place wasn’t reviewed, so I just randomly took him here after searching the «yellow-​book.» Luckily I had a great experience. Too bad the University of North Texas’ Feral Cat Rescue group, who arrange a student discount for neutering with vets, doesn’t use Dr. Wuensche’s services. I’ll just have to get Lasco castrated elsewhere…
