Legacy Fitness & Gym

This is hands down one of the best gyms around. It offers something for everyone, from people just wanting to maintain an active lifestyle to hardcore weight training to boxing/​crossfire to classes. Immaculately clean, knowledgeable staff, great childcare and nice equipment and facilities. A lot of people lament the price, but as far as gyms go, you get what you pay for. Apparently, people HATED this place when it was Diesel Fitness, but it has been taken over by different people. I love this place

I’ve worked out at several gyms in the metroplex. None of them had the friendly atmosphere that legacy has. You are always greeted as you walk in and when u leave. The staff is super friendly and always takes time to genuinely speak with you. Not just a hi and bye type greeting.
The prices at this gym are better than the competition in this area. I was matched with a trainer that was perfect for my personality and my goals. He has motivated me and helped me tremendously. I’ve never had a single problem with any of the front desk staff, management, or trainers. Everyone has always been helpful and respectful. Most other gyms, in my experience, staff rude and arrogant front desk personnel. I’m so glad I gave this gym a chance and found a forever home. My trainer is stuck with me!!!

I have trained at this gym for years. My husband and I moved away a couple of years ago, bounced around gyms, but couldn’t wait to move back and get back to our gym. Right after we got back the gym was sold. The new management had been nothing but helpful! Both of us love the training staff and have learned so much about muscle development from their training manager and try to train with him as often as possible. He has always been super accommodating to our hectic schedules! We send as many people as we can to legacy because it truly is an incredible gym– no matter what your goal is. I always see the same folks in here and they are always so friendly. I am so excited to see all the additions legacy brings!

I have trained at a bunch of gyms over the years, and this is my all time favorite. They have all the equipment you could want and some great amenities as well. Freeweights, Hammer Strength machines, Icarian machines, treadmills, stair mills, tanning, box bags, basketball court, the list goes on! The staff is very helpful and friendly, always asking how your work out is going. And they aren’t pushy sales people just trying to get you to buy their training. Thank God. It’s a big spacious gym that has everything you need. Also I have never seen any drugs being sold from any member or employee at this gym.

I never post reviews on Unilocal,but I feel this gym is getting a bad rap when it shouldn’t be. 2 months ago Diesel Fitness was bought out by Legacy Fitness, and yes, the transition could have been A LOT smoother, but it doesn’t always work that way. I even had some trouble myself with the inability to use both the Denton and the Uptown locations anymore and almost switched, but didn’t because it’s still probably the best gym in Denton. When you look for a gym, unless you’re using it specifically for a pool or steam room, you want it to have all your essential workout equipment and you want it to be convenient. Legacy is just that. I’ve tried most other gyms and every one of them has you waiting on weights/​machines mid-​workout, regardless of the time of day. Even during the busiest hours (5−8pm), there are always open weights/​machines, so it doesn’t slow me down.
To address the issue with the staff, I’ve literally been at this gym through every transition it’s gone through (From Fitness Evolution-​to Diesel-​to Legacy) and they’ve always tried to work with me, even when I had my issue about working out at the Uptown Diesel location. Sure there have been a few jerks along the way, but almost all of them are good, and you can’t show me a business where 100% of the employees are nice. Having been there that long, I have never seen or heard of anyone purchasing or distributing anything out of the gym. I think it’s pretty ridiculous to say someone is selling drugs just because someone else departed with a sour taste in their mouth, which, from what it sounds like, was actually caused by the previous gym not making accommodations to have everything transferred to the new management that should have been.
Anyway, as much as I would love for this gym to not grow so it will continue to stay quiet for me, I thought the reputation it was given by some of the reviews were pretty unfair, so I had to say something.

I have had a membership at this gym for almost a year with no issues until now. Two months ago the gym was bought out by a few members so things have been changing a lot, including the pricing. I originally put $ 150 down and $ 35/​month with tanning and child care included. When they gym changed ownership the rates changed so they tried to increase my membership to $ 55/​month which was not feasible considering I was driving 30 minutes every day one way. I had been training with a certain girl the entire time but when the gym switched owners she decided to go a different direction so I had TWO training sessions left… a total of $ 50!!! It has been two months since the switch and I tried to utilize the training sessions and was told that there was nothing they could do because the money had gone to the previous owner. I was given no «grace period» which is the excuse they are trying to use, and I’m out my money. I was only given the old owners email as a way of resolving the issue, and when I contacted him, he confirmed that when the business was transferred to the new owners all contracts and training sessions were transferred as well. I told the manager that he was basically stealing from me because I was not receiving a service I had already paid for, but he just kept telling me I was not working with them with the price increase so he wasn’t going to work with me. As I continued to argue my side he said I needed to just get out of his gym and to not ever come back.
I am a stay at home mom with three kids. My husband works 70+ hours a week to provide for our family, so when I feel like someone is stealing from me, I don’t take it lightly. I would be thrown in jail quick if the roles were reversed and I stole something from them, (i.e. weights, mats, etc.), so why shouldn’t they be held accountable?
With that being said, the gym itself is going through a remodel, with a lot of beneficial upgrades. It is rarely crowded, and for the majority of my contract I enjoyed working out there. Most of the regular staff are really nice, some of them good friends whom I would stay and talk with after my workouts. If they would replace management with honest people who know how to work in customer service, I think the gym would be much more successful. Stealing money from members is no way to run a business, or grow as a new company.
