MOOYAH Burgers, Fries & Shakes

I really loved this place. The burgers are great very juicy and I like the big wheat buns. My 5 year old had no problem eating his whole burger. It was a kids burger but the size of an adults burger. They had a lot of great toppings like blue cheese & bacon. My husband had the veggie burger and it was really great, I tried it. It tasted good and I don’t even like veggie burgers. I had sweet potato fries and couldn’t stop eating them. There was a chalk board for the kids, not that we needed it because our food came so quickly. The guys working were very nice. They checked on us once when they brought us the food. They weren’t overwhelming or overly attentive, which I hate. To top it off we had milk shakes. My son had the Oreo one which I really think was the best one. This place was all around great. Will definitely go back.

We must have driven by MOOYAH at least a couple of dozen times. I like the name.
Finally stopped in not long ago and it was a pretty good burger. And an insane amount of fries. Like, a shamefully wasteful amount of fries. My girlfriend and I split a «small» order, and still threw most of them in the trash afterward.
The burgers are, of course, the star of the show. And they are good. It put me in mind of what one thinks of as a «restaurant burger» if you get my meaning, only this place has a burger shack feel. You can get your burger made with many combinations of accouterments you like. I went with a BBQ cheeseburger and it was quite tasty. Not the best sauce I’ve ever had, but serviceable.
I’m putting this place down as 3 stars for now, but I plan to return and that score is likely to go up after a repeat visit. I did like this place and everyone was very friendly and helpful.
I can give them one compliment; I wish there was a MOOYAH in my neighborhood. I know of 2 in Denton, but there is only a couple where I live in Fort Worth and they are not within a reasonable driving distance. We recently got a Firehouse Subs and a Raising Cane’s in our area though, so who knows? Maybe someday. We have plenty of places to get great burgers where I live, but a MOOYAH would be a nice alternative to have nearby.

Restaurant was very dirty. Every table was dirty with 2 employees working, not sure how they could clean. One cooking and one behind the register, you had to bus the tables before you could sit down. I ordered my food at 12:25 and at 12:48 I finally received my food! Not ideal for lunch breaks as it took all of mine to wait in my food. However, the food was great! Only plus for this visit

Mooyah’s burgers and fries are fantastic! We walked in and it was packed, place was pretty clean do to the amount of people getting up and sitting down. Our food took a bit to come out but when it did it was worth the wait. Will be back in for more.

I dare say this is one of the best burgers I’ve ever had.
This place is a modern take on an old school burger bar. You can choose to load up your burger with whatever topping you like. My list was pretty hefty and it was dee-​lish!!! The burger had that coveted grill taste and it was juicy and flavorful with melted cheese and toppings going everywhere. I also got a plain vanilla milkshake. It was super thick and yummy. I ordered a side of hand cut fries also great.
This place makes me say 5 guys who!!!
Will DEFFFFFFF return!

Service was friendly and competent. The girl rang up the huge order right and they made the food right. Yea. Beef patty salad was interesting, though decidedly unhealthy. The meat was extremely salty. The bacon and onion rings were greasy. Meh. The Powerade drink syrups were out and the root beer was weak, so the kids were unhappy.

My review is going to be based purely off of their shake, because I’ve passed by this food chain countless times and was always interested in how good their shakes might be … Considering they are called Mooyah I imagined they were known for their shakes.
There were only three customers when I came in, but that was probably because it was late afternoon. I ordered an M&M shake. I’m pretty sure the guy still had his gloves on when he took my payment, but at the time it didn’t bother me.
The shake wasn’t exceptional, and considering the price and size it was a little disappointing. The whipped cream was a weird consistency, and there was way too much whipped cream, to the point that it took up maybe a ¹⁄₅ of the cup. The taste of the shake was below average. It just tasted like off brand vanilla ice cream with too many M&Ms.
I might come back to try the burgers but one can find better shakes some where else.

Good burger, good wheat bun, good meaty patty, crisp leaves of lettuce, fresh tomatoes, and lots of great choices.
The rest of the group all had the black bean veggie burger and rated it highly.
Sweet potato fries were excellent.
Small moo malt was good, but not sure I would get the malt again

This is my favorite burger place! Burgers are big and juicy. Fries are so good, and you get a bunch. For a family of five it’s a little pricey though.

My kids love this place. I like it well enough. They don’t give me any grief about ordering a kid’s meal for myself like some places do. Their meat is probably a little over-​cooked but that’s the way I like it so no complaints there. They changed the way you order sometime between my last two visits. You no longer have to mill around filling out a confusing order slip. You just walk right up and order. So we did. And my sometimes-​vegetarian, gluten-​free 12-​year-​old went with her burger joint staple: cheese fries. «I’m sorry, we can’t make cheese fries,» the cashier said. «Do you have cheese… And fries?» «Yes, but we turned off the oven already and we have no way to make them.» Sigh. Whatever. Ok. My disappointed little lady just ordered plain fries and slumped over to the table with suddenly rubberized bones. She’s good at making people feel like a**holes. Food came. Family is happy. And then… TADA! A grinning young man bobs over to our table and proudly presents my pouting tween with a platter of cheese fries that could clog the whole family’s arteries. We all looked back at the kitchen to see a handful of beaming smiles from the young men working there. Maybe the slumping little lady made them feel The Guilt. Or maybe they’re just genuinely nice guys with some bada** cheese fries MacGyvering skills. Whatever it was, it seasoned the burgers with a little extra good will and made them taste that much better. THANKS GUYS.

Great, huge burgers made custom to your liking. Many different toppings to choose from. A small fry is more than enough for one person. Love this place and so do my kids.

My husband and I went there because I remembered my sister used to talk about it. So when we moved to Denton we passed by this one on 288. Went in it was clean and everything, cashier had on some plastic gloves, she took our order, pecking on machine, got our cash, and then she with same gloves on got some meat and put on grill. That’s when I had to ask her, «What’s the purpose of wearing gloves if you’re cross contaminating?» The point of wearing gloves is to protect us from germs from money, other people’s hands, cash machine germs, etc. So she apologized, but still I thought that their food was nasty. Whataburger and Braums have really good burgers so does many of the other restaurants that are more costly like OUtback, Chilli’s, Fridays. There is no way I will EVER pay MOOYAHS for a burger. They use cheap mystery meat, the buns tasted very stale and they were tiny. They offer toppings but no onion rings only some fried type onions for buger. I am a huge fan of onion rings, but they should add to menu. They put some type onions on my burger but no really good. They French fries weren’t so good for my taste. It just tasted like 99 cents worth of food sold at a high price. I feel like I got ripped off. I had a chocolate shake, it wasn’t that good. the Ice cream tasted low quality for the price I paid.
I’m sure it’s great for some but I’m a food enthusiast and I know what it should taste like. MOOYAHS had nasty tasting food. The restaurant was interesting, clean, the restroom was clean, front door was clean no finger prints on outside. Only two people were in there the day we went in. They were nice but a little bit occupied.
Very costly for two people to eat there. It cost us about $ 28.00 and I found the quality to be terrible. I would rather spend the money at a better place or if not just go to Whataburger, Braums, or OUtback for a GOOD real meat tasting burger. I cannot stand mystery meat and stale buns.

My first time at this place while here on vacation and job searching. Not a bad burger at all. I had a double with blue cheese, onion straws, Mooyah sauce, and A1. I wish my burger had more sauce, but I probably could have specified. The sweet potato fries were amazing. They were very light and crispy. Full of flavor. Would definitely come back.

Mooyah is a fun and classic burger place. The décor is hip and they even have a chalk board for the kids. You fill out a card, custom ordering your burger. I usually get a sesame seed bun with cheese, mayo, ketchup, and bacon. Their fries are awesome, and they give you a ton. Get a shake as well– my fave is cookie dough. This place is definitely worth trying.

Ordering is such a simple process. The kitchen staff all display professionalism. The prices are standard for a modern burger joint like this. I highly recommend this location!

Mooyah’s burgers aren’t anything special, but the ability to choose your own toppings earns an extra star. The natural cut fries are SALTY and mushy, but I like mushy fries so this was not a problem for me. We ordered the large fries for our group of four, and it probably could have fed 6. We ended up throwing away probably half of the fries.
Also, the standard burger actually comes with two patties, but one is enough for most people so I recommend ordering the smaller burger (little mooyah burger). The lemonade is very good and they have a lot of fountain drink choices. I wish you could order onion strings as a side and they could probably cut a huge amount of salt from the food, but I would definitely try this place again.

Been to this location twice now, first time not long after they opened and second this past week.
First time, took the Mrs. and a couple of our kids. They botched my burger and I had to wait for all the ones that were ordered after my returning it to get a replacement. Not real cool if everybody else is eating and your sitting there nibbling on fries. Restaurant 101 says «make it on the double» for the kitchen blunder. Nonetheless, it was good, as were the fries and everyone else was happy.
This past week, I went in for a to-​go order for me and the Mrs. It was not a particularly busy evening and the food came right away. I ordered the large fries and seem to have been given the medium size order as not many were in the bag as the first time we went. Secondly my wheat bun was stale, kinda crumbled apart while eating it.
I have been to other locations of this chain. They vary and I can say this one is not on par with the best of their establishments.

Yes I am writing about yet another fast casual burger joint. I can’t help it, I like burgers. Texas is filled with food. I think it’s why Texans are one of the heavier groups of people in the US. But I figure if I do it moderately, I won’t suffer the consequences… It’s also why at nearly 40 years old, I still weigh what I was in college. Most guys can’t say that.
But, back to what’s important, the review of Mooyah’s. Mooyah is right down the street from 5 Guys, so I thought it was odd that they came to Denton, or at least right here. I had eaten a Mooyah burger long before 5 Guys came around, so I’ve been eating their food for awhile. I have been to the ones in Addison and Plano and Frisco prior to this one opening up. They make a good burger and even better fries.
I will say 5 Guys does do the burger right, but Mooyah does the fries better. They aren’t as greasy, and the paper bag doesn’t go translucent on you in 5 seconds flat.
As for the burgers, I’ve had both beef and turkey (they offer a veggie one too) and both very very juicy and I can’t complain. This is no Micky D’s hockey puck excuse for a burger. I usually end up with lettuce, tomato, mushrooms, grilled onions and sometime jalapenos on mine with bbq sauce and I am a happy, happy guy. There are so many options, even down to a white or whole wheat bun, that despite some other reviews, this is a solid burger place to visit.
I will keep coming back… every so often. There’s too many places to try in Denton.
