Recycled Books Records CDs

If you are visiting Denton and like used bookstores you owe it to yourself to check this place out if you have the time.

Be prepared to get lost in Recycled complex maze of nostalgia. No, I mean it. This place is nuts, it’s filled to the brim with books, periodicals, vinyl, movies and more. The staff is super friendly and helpful, so ask them if you’re hunting for something specific. Or just do what I always do, browse at your own pace. The place is sort of separated by media type– records and movies are at your disposal when you enter the store. As you walk further in, you’ll get lost in the aisles of books (grouped by genre). There’s a healthy kids section filled with great deals. Don’t get discouraged, if you look long enough you’re bound to find something to your liking. It feels like Recycled is stocked pretty regularly so you can easy make weekly trips and find something new and interesting each time. Don’t rush, take your time. Denton Square is pretty cool as it is, but Recycled is one of the pillar stores IMHO. Grab some caffeine at Jupiter, get yourself pumped and walk a few stores down to Recycled.

An awesome place! You never know what you’ll find here and that’s part of the fun. There’s so many rooms full of books and cd’s of different genres, and they are organized very well. A trip to the Denton square is incomplete without a visit here.

Superb Book and Record store. This place is a massive mecca to all things records and books. They have a fantastically curated selection of new and used records. Everytime I come there I find something I never would have expected to. Looking for that obscure 70’s psych album? They have one. How about that japanese doom metal album, oh yeah, they’ve 2 of those. Recycled Books is a record lovers dream.
This place truly has probably the broadest/​best tastes in music of any of the shops I’ve been in DFW. I think it’s impressive when I go to a shop and they have contemporary music that I’ve never heard of. I like to think I have my finger on the pulse of what’s coming out but these guys are always streets ahead.
The best part of this place is that they never overprice anything, everything is always exactly fairly price for the conditions and the pressing. Not to mention they get so much stuff so frequently that you often find a rare pressing of something that they are selling for half of what you could get online. I feel like Recycled Books is my own personal
because I swear they always have exactly what I’m looking for.

This place has a unique charm. It’s cozy and sort of maze-​like. You can get lost in here reading for hours. I really like the green carpet areas and the extensive history section.

Cool, cool, cool. Awesome used book store on the square in Denton. We went by yesterday so that I could look for knitting pattern books. We happened to have our Pomeranian with us so I called ahead to make sure he would be welcome — he was! Yay! So this place is huge! My husband was with me so I kind of kept to the task at hand. He’s not anti-​bookstore or anything, but I could definitely spend way more time in one than he’d like. This is definitely a place I’d like to come back to by myself so that I could spend as much time as I’d like to really look at everything. Anyway, I was taken to the knitting/​fiber arts section and found a great book for dog sweater patterns. The sale price on the book was $ 21 and they were selling it for $ 6, so I got a great deal.
Other than books they have movies and CDs for sale (cassettes, too!), t shirts, even coffee beans. They have a GREAT kids section. Huge! The former teacher in me totally swooned waking through that section.
A great experience! The employees that helped me and checked me out were very kind and helpful. HUGE store with a huge selection. They have an upstairs and a downstairs that I didn’t venture into. Prices seem to be pretty awesome — but I am only basing that on my one purchase. The only think I didn’t care for was their skeezy carpet. Pretty sure it’s been around since the 70s
I will definitely be back, and I definitely recommend checking them out!

I had never been to Denton until last weekend, and it was such a pleasure to discover this gem of a bookstore in North Texas! It is a huge store, the type I would expect to find in a much bigger city, and they have an vast selection of books for sale. My particular interest is history, primarily African history, and I was delighted by the number, range, and quality of the titles they had for sale. This is a store that New York or London would be proud to call their own. I could easily spend hours here browsing and shopping, something I am looking forward to doing soon!

This is an update for anyone wanting to know about selling your used books. I’ve sold books twice to Recycled, so this is a combination review for both times. The first time I brought a large box (at least 20 books) all in good condition, mix of both hard cover and paperback. They accepted roughly 4 – 5 of those books, and offered me $ 10. I was disappointed that they didn’t take a lot, but they explained that a lot of their buys are based on store inventory, so if they already have those books in stock, they are less likely to buy. The second time I sold was more recent, I brought in, again, 20+ books. This time they accepted over half. I don’t know the exact number, it was a very large stack on the floor and offered me around $ 50. I accepted (of course). Of those that they accepted, a lot were school books, but many were personal, more mainstream reads. Think «Middlesex» and Amy Poehler’s «Yes Please.» They said I had a good selection, and many of the buys from this time were books I brought in the time before, which makes me believe they had them in stock last time, but not this time. Overall the selling process took about 25 minutes, I just browsed while I waited, and I was pretty satisfied with the outcome, so I’d definitely suggest selling if you have some books taking up space that you’re done with. This is definitely a better alternative to places like Half Price, which I’ve heard basically offers pennies for mint books.

Ok, to be fair, my review doesn’t review this place for the books, but rather, for the records! We braved the treacherous Hwy 35 to Denton to make a special trip to hunt for some new vinyl finds, and we were not disappointed!
Their vinyl selection is NOT anywhere near the size of Good Records, Josey Records, or any of the popular stops. But what this record selection lacks in size, it more than makes up for in content. First of all, everything is very neatly alphabetized. Even records that go in to a generic letter bin get alphabetized. For diggers like me, that is a major plus! Many of the titles they carry are things that would have flown off the shelves in Dallas ages ago; I was surprised to see so many classics and harder-​to-​find records there! I picked up one of my holy grails — a re-​issue of Vince Guaraldi’s very first record on Fantasy, in near-​perfect condition. That’s another thing — their records are usually of high quality. I don’t think I have ever seen a scratched or dinged-​up record for sale there. Another huge plus.
I may not come here as often as I would like. Frankly, if you take 35 to get there, have some good tires, because the roads are AWFUL. But a visit here is highly recommended for those of you who are looking for a slightly more carefully curated selection of vinyl.
I will have to check out the books next time… if I can get pulled out of the vinyl section long enough!

One of many Denton treasures and a must visit for any book, music, or movie fan. Thanks to UNT, it has a great selection of literature, especially poetry.
I’ve been going for years, but only just recently started taking books and CDs to sell. They are picky about what they take, but they pay much better than the dismal amount Half Priced Books offers. I’ve taken a bag of books twice now and have been pleasantly surprised. I will definitely save up some books to take in the future and try them first before «donating» my books to Half Priced.

I absolutely love this labyrinth of a store. I could spend hours and many many dollars in here rifling through musty books and records. I can’t explain the organizational method there because it’s at the mercy of the building’s available nooks and crannies and even closets. Every corner turned is some other room with tons of stuff all divided up into sub-​subsections. The paperback horror section is my favorite. The metaphysics and strange bidness section used to be great, but last I was there the inventory was incredibly lacking and a lot of shelves were bare. Not the fault of the bookstore though if no former moon children are trading their old tomes.
The vinyl section is pretty alright, but often hit or miss for me. They are evidently picky about what they buy off of people so don’t expect to find a lot of anything your parents wouldn’t recognize. They do have new unwrapped records as well but I don’t know anybody who wants a Lorde record.
The movie section is decent and most stuff averages at $ 6. Sometimes you’ll get lucky and someone has sold their entire Argento collection.
Their buy back system is questionable sometimes because they don’t give you much for trade ins and often what they’ll buy from you for pennies you will find on their shelves for a substantial sum so beware of selling things if you’re just looking for cash.
My only complaint about this place is the bathroom because it seems like every time I’m in the kid’s section (where the bathroom is basically located) someone has Chernobyled it.

Recycled Books is so much fun. You know it’s a great store when you can spend hours in there. They have a great selection of both music and books and I’m always impressed by the variety. You can also expect to find something different in places you looked before if you go back after a few weeks. Typically great prices too.
Some of my favorite sections here are the music books/​music biographies, science, art, the records, and books in Spanish. You need to stop here if you’re on the square!

I remember back in the day when we read books made out of paper and stuff. AND we listened to records on record players – oh those were good times.
Thanks to Rec Books I’m still enjoying a good read and a record or two. And to the credit of my gene pool, my daughter loves vinyl. Every time we come to Denton we have to make a run through the store to find the things we didn’t know we needed until we laid eyes and hands on them.

This is a large used bookstore located downtown on the square. If you go to one place in Denton, it should be this bookstore… you can’t miss it. It’s the big lilac building on a corner with a bright 60s-​like (Yellow Submarine-​like?) tree painting on the side.
You could spend hours here. A great rainy day type of excursion. They also have CDs and vinyl. I believe they also have some DVDs and cassette tapes and sheet music.
Don’t forget to go down into the basement – another level full of books.
The children’s section is just enormous. This is where to go if you need to find more books in a series. Great prices and So. Many. Books.
The staff here is so helpful, too. Clearly book lovers.
They have a whole section up front with local Denton music, too.

I like Denton. If I lived in the Metroplex, I’d want to live in – well, no wait a minute. That isn’t right. If I lived in the Metroplex, I’d want to put the cold blue barrel of a loaded-​save-​one 357 magnum in my mouth and play reverse Russian roulette until someone got lucky. But if, at the microsecond of decision, my courage failed, and I slumped against the wall in despair both at my want of bravery and at the slim-​to-​none prospect of ever finding a whiff of goddamn civilization in this barren land of Bible-​obsessed change-​jinglers and wantrapreneurs — I’d think of Denton, and its unwashed students and this great bookstore and the time that I rounded a corner here and nearly stepped on a scrawny little twenty-​something woman who was in the Lit Crit section engrossed in a volume of Leslie Fiedler’s essays — and the light would return to my eyes.
Denton is like a reprieve from the Metroplex. Somnolent college town, crowned with a charming square in the center of which stands an impossibly grand, nineteenth-​century courthouse that, because of the color of the stone, seems like an intricately crafted sandcastle. Across from it, a fine beer bar.
Catty-​cornered to that: the finest used bookstore in North Texas, and possibly in the entire state. Three sprawling, jumbled floors of greatness at very good prices. Next to the unrivaled Powell’s in Portland, this is my favorite bookstore. You’ll like it.

Heaven.
Room after room after level after room of used books, all for good prices. The musty yellow carpet in this old, converted building just adds to the charm. If you are a book lover, be warned. There will be things you want here and you will not be able to resist. I had to make myself leave after picking up a third book that I HAD to have in less than 15 minutes.
When I die, I’m going to make a concerted effort to become a ghost and haunt this place because I could legitimately spend eternity in here.
