Texas Department of Public Safety – Driver License Office

Horrible. Not sure how else to say it since I got here before they opened and wait about 2 hours after simply to renew a license. The representative advised they were down some people but both times I have been here.

I’m seeing a lot of negative comments about the staff, but from my experience everyone was very nice. As soon as you walk in you go to the check in station where they ask you what they can help you with. The lady was very friendly, and even helped an elderly person to a chair. The other staff at the stations were also very nice. I came around 1:30 during a week day and was in and out within 30 minutes!

I followed all of the advice, I came in the middle of the month and still it took over an hour to even get helped! It took me 10 minutes to park because the extremely small parking lot was completely full. I waited for 30 minutes outside even though people kept coming out but none of us were allowed inside. Once finally allowed inside over half of the seats were empty! Multiple employees sat behind the counter without helping anyone for over 10 min each. This place is a complete mess! I have never been anywhere so disorganized. If there was a 0 out of 5 I would give it to them instead.

I am sure it can be a mad-​house and I am also sure some folks have terrible experiences, however, for myself, all went off without a hitch.
This place is very large and the notification system is excellent.
The young man that helped me was fine, not great, but fine.
The key to these places are to go middle of month.

Went in around 9am Monday to have my last name changed after getting married. I was in and out within 15 minutes. There were a lot of people in the waiting room (nearly full), so this was a surprise. The lot is a bit small but I had no problem finding a parking spot.

Short wait while I was there… much better than the crowded McKinney office. The building is drab with an ugly, falling apart looking interior, and it’s populated with the usual overweight, female government employees… but they were helpful and I got what I needed.

This office is a joke. Very uneducated people working here. Rude employees who are not helpful in the least. They also make people stand outside in the cold because there aren’t anymore chairs. They won’t let people stand inside, and instead make them wait out in the cold. Very small waiting room. I wish I could give this place zero stars. I will be calling someone about the way they treat their patrons.

These people are wonderful. I was the last person in on a Friday afternoon and they welcomed me in and stayed late to make sure I could get my new license!

Never have I met such a rude individual. I walked in to the receptionist who was chatting with a person that was waiting. No greeting, no how can I help you, she just looked at me and said «there’s a line outside». Mind you I never saw anyone waiting outside. The office in lewisville is run so much better.

I cant give a zero star rating so i guess a one star will have to do. Horrible wait time. Understaffed. Apathetic workers. No logical order to the ticket station numbering. Lots of folks who checked in after me got their numbers called before me, some as soon as 10 to 15 minutes after they checked in. Meanwhile I’ve been here for over an hour… and others have been here over 3 or 4 hours. And all I’m trying to get accomplished is to obtain a state ID to augment my already existing, just renewed TX drivers license. Strangely enough, tho, identity information and proof of residency have to be provided to get a state ID. One would think that they should already have that information on file as I had to provide that in getting a drivers license, which they had to have checked before issuing me a drivers license, let alone a renewed drivers license. Also, the TX drivers license which they have issued is not enough to get a state ID. It counts as a proof of identity but their own pathetic record keeping does not allow them to confirm an already confirmed proof of residency. Poorly managed facility. Illogical operating procedures.

Worst place ever! I went 3 times finally gave up and went to a different city!!! Denton you really need to step it up! This place needs to be upgraded to accommodate the population growth! Expect to wait a couple of hours! Poor customer service, no parking and the wait time is horrible! Get with the 21^st century!!! I wish I could give it 0 stars!

Renewed my license this morning in under 30 minutes. Very smooth process. Much better experience here than the location in Carrollton.

The people working at the front are straight up racist and sexist. It’s interesting how only people of color are asked if they’re citizens of the U.S. and how everyone aside from white men are asked for tons of identification. The seating is awkward, and the parking is terrible. The people at the ticket stations are, however, nice. I know everyone hates going to the DMV, but I just had to warn people of the racist behaviors.

Waited only 8 minutes during a lunch hour. Small waiting room, but only about a dozen people waiting.
Walk in, and an officer will ask what you’re there for and give you any paperwork you need before handing you a clipboard and number ticket.
I was in and out in 20 minutes, your mileage may vary. Located just north of the FEMA building on Loop 288.
