I have experience in UBH’s Trauma Program. At first I was alarmed by some of the past reviews, but don’t be. No, this hospital does not have the fanciest of facilities, but if you are looking for a good trauma program that treats PTSD and DID of men, women and transgender individuals, this is a great program. The program is intense in that you are expected to go to groups all day and receive individual therapy 3 times a week. In my experience, the therapists and the regular nursing staff members are excellent. Colin Ross usually does 1 – 2 groups a week if you are a fan of his. Don’t go there if you want to lay in bed all day. Also, the general adult program doesn’t look very impressive. Food is blah. But, if you are looking to do some good trauma work, I highly recommend.

I recently spent a month in the Military unit, and I can honestly say the things I learned there have changed my life completely. You have to put in some work, tears will be shed, but they are able to peel back layer after layer until they get to the true root of the problem. The nurses, techs, counselors, and most importantly your peers are all amazing people who contribute so much to making the program a resounding success. I actually kinda’ miss the place as weird as that may seem. It’s good to see that there are people in the world who actually care and work hard to build people up and help them to learn to live again. Keep in mind, the lessons learned there are only a start. They’ll give you the tools, but it’s up to you to implement them into your daily routine.

I can only give my review on the Trauma program at UBH — both inpatient and outpatient.
So this is really for anyone considering going to the Trauma program that reads reviews obsessively. I was SOOOOOOO close to not even going to this place based on alllll the negative reviews below about UBH. I did enough research to where I felt like anywhere else on this earth would be better than UBH. But after I couldn’t get to places out of state, and I really wanted something more trauma-​oriented (I have had every type of hospitalization imaginable the last 15 years — I am 31 — and nothing ever worked for me). Finally, I went inpatient first, without even really having a crisis, the inpatient process and the «care» room and whatnot scared the shit out of me and made me realize that this was indeed a bad decision, but I kept telling myself that I am what I make it. If I go and complain it will suck, if I see the help and utilize it, then it will be helpful. I wanted the help, I decided I needed to move on with my life and I would do everything and anything to change myself. If you are at that point in your life, do yourself a favor and go here. This was THE BEST THING I HAVE DONE FOR MYSELF IN MY LIFE! I was there from January to February inpatient, then February to March outpatient. I am already such a changed person that I cannot even believe it myself. I am not fixed, I am still working on myself day to day but something about going there really forced me to open up and open my eyes. It’s very structured and eye-​opening. I forced myself to sign up for everything that looked scary to me because I wanted the full benefits of the full program. I stayed as long as possible, I had an excellent therapist 3x a week, and there weren’t just boring, stupid groups — like I actually cried in art therapy. I never thought that was even possible. I allowed myself to feel, which is an achievement in itself. The staff was fantastic, of course there were some ups and downs, but nothing severe enough to complain. They push you, they help you and do what is right for you, not what you want for yourself. I can go on and on about things I learned, things I feared, things I loved, but the general message that I wanted to convey is to forget the other reviews. I can’t comment on the other units, but this was a true gem. I almost lost out on a great experience by reading all the horrible reviews — so THIS review is for the people who want help, need to overcome trauma, and are scared to enter because of the negative reviews. Do yourself a favor and go. Seriously. And on a side note, there was no other patient I met in both inpatient and outpatient who absolutely hated it (in case you are thinking I am just one of those rare optimists). I really needed to clear this up because I don’t want someone to miss out on an opportunity that I almost did and am glad that I didn’t. Thank you Trauma ward! –Neda M

The entire staff from the front desk all the way back to the «nurses» are RUDE and insensitive to the family. That’s including the admissions staff. This stent at UBH was HOSPITAL mandated and we were transferred from Denton Regional. There appeared to be somewhere between 5 and 10 admission employees. We waited for 4 hours before they got the «process» started. After admitting our family member, we were finally done by 1:15 AM. That’s right. 1:15 in the morning on a Tuesday. Our family member spent 24 hours wearing the hospital paper suit, and waited an additional 12 TWELVE hours to receive the clothes that we had brought him that morning. «We’ve been soooo busy» was the response I got. Funny, I didn’t think it took 12 hours for ONE person to search through the clothes I brought in Walmart sacks.
Every time you call, the staff is RUDE, and at one point couldn’t locate, or remember who our family member was by name/​patient ID. (There were only about 12 boys in the adolescent unit at the time)
Just to top it all off, they will fluff the families minds with «what we’re going to do to help» when in all actuality, it’s pumping them full of anti depressants within the first 24 hours, «discussing options» and NEVER following through, and doing everything they can to nickel and dime you through their outpatient programs etc.
awe were extremely hopeful for all of the steps they would take to help our family member grow, but just kept getting the run-​around. This is not a long term help program, and I would not recommend this place to anyone.

If I could rate this place zero stars, I would. Don’t let them «treat» your child.
If you need help, this isn’t the place to get it.
Upon arrival, the ambiance is dark and dreary. You will barely see the sun if you’re in this place. The nurses are rude and inconsiderate. Having an allergic reaction? They’ll tell you to shut up and ignore you. One girl even had a seizure and the nurses completely ignored her.
The only reason this place is still open is because of all the money they bring in. It’s all a big insurance ploy to get you to put your kid in here. All they want is your money! They don’t care how long you stay as long as they get the cash out of you.
I’ll be surprised if this place isn’t sued for negligence or malpractice in the future.

A very poor place for adolescent behaviorial care. They do not listen to parental concerns and ignore documented historical medical patient data. When asking for information on your child, they refuse, and will even withold information on medication they are administering to them. When visiting your child at the specified time, they do their best to make you feel like it is a great inconvenience to them.
