At The Beach Tanning Superstore

I’ve been to three other locations and hands down the staff at this spot is the best. Friendly, knowledgeable and I can always get into a bed. Also, the new district manager Chris is on top of it and Aerin is a doll. :)

I renewed my membership against my better judgment after multiple issues with the company but it has a convenient location and hours for me. They told me to come in on the 27^th if I wanted to pay early (my billing date is the 3^rd) I went in on the 26^th, they still charged me again said the second charge would be reversed, it has still not been reversed due to this my account overdrafted and the manager Kris told me I had to bring in physical bank statements. Now it’s taking more time and money out of my life. When I asked for corporates numbers she said she doesn’t have one and just kept apologizing. I will be contacting the BBB as well as an attorney because this doesn’t seem right or legal. If I could do zero stars i would and I bet I’ll still be paying this till my contract is up since they won’t let me cancel it even after their mistakes that have caused me a lot of stress and time. Completely dissatisfied.

I’ve been getting charged continually after I cancelled my service for about 3 months now. It’s a great feeling let me tell you. I went in 3 months to even follow up and I was assured my service had been cancelled. I was weary because I had saw where it had happened to others as well. Guess I fell into the same trap. Best advice, stay away from this company completely. Unless you feel like handing them your money, do not go here.

Well, I suppose it’s good management checks Unilocal.They promptly called and offer a free tan (in any level bed) and then a second message asking me to please return, for my free tan and a waived enrollment fee. I scheduled a time to go in, didn’t receive an actual tour but got signed up for a membership, two months.
Asked about their free week promo (because who wouldn’t?) and was told that would be added into my next billing, pushing out my second draft date a week, pretty cool. When I mentioned my «free tan» and that the manager suggested checking out the level 5 360 — the girl helping said «oh…» As if that would have never been offered.
Once I got in the room, I could hear her call the manager and express her concerns that I had made up the whole free tan offered… I think I would have been less offended if she would have done that in front of me. I also purchased a $ 7 sampler of lotion, was given a step two rather than the step one, which at the point of sale seemed super important to go through the multiple steps in order… Either way, loved the lotion, just found the situation funny.
Finally, my card was double charged for the $ 40 monthly charge, icing on the cake. No in store refunds so now I await a hard check being sent from corporate, won’t hold my breathe.
Was also told 25 «dollars» would be added to go toward a purchase, let’s see how this goes!

I have been a customer for almost 3 years now and I love the staff (well most of them), but corporate could do a better job at customer service. Also making the staff push product is a bad idea. If we want to buy something, we will. Putting staff on the spot to sell just annoys customers. Stop it. Ok so now I need to update this review. I agreed to post a review here because I was told I would receive 50 bonus bucks. I took the review in to show attendant as instructed. She made me stand and wait while she called the manager, I guess to make sure I was not lying, which was frustrating, Then she told me I was only receiving 25. Man, I just couldn’t do anything but laugh. I can tolerate the pushing to sell product, it is annoying but I can put up with it. However, I reduced the stars to two because what I was told I would receive was not honored and that is much worse in my opinion.

BUYER BEWARE. This is the shadiest business I have ever dealt with. I went for three visits for a wedding the following weekend. I had to pay a one-​time membership fee plus a month membership. Three months later after reviewing my bank statements I found they put me on reoccurring autodraft from my account. I made it very clear I was there only for my three visits. Never was that mentioned by the staff to cancel after one month. You would think if they were looking to do business legitimately that would be an important item to review with their client. It cost me a couple hundred dollars and they refused to refund anything prior to my cancellation call. BUYER BEWARE.

My skin and nails turned burn orange with the sunless tanning. I wasn’t happy with the product so I cancelled my plan before my 2^nd month. Got charged again. Was told I’d get a refund but never got it. Called corp office and was told I won’t get a refund. Now I have a month of tanning I can’t use and $ 130 of their products that I had to toss meant just for sunless tanning. Not saying everyone will have the same issue since I have pale skin and I only burn when I try to tan normally. But don’t go to on the beach, unhappy with their products and your stuck with payments. Staff at the locations are friendly. Only reason they got one star.

Horrible Customer Service and phone skills from a so called employee Sarah! This girls attitude sucks and her people skills are even worse. She should NEVER BE ALLOWED TO WORK WITH THE PUBLIC. She refuses to listen and then is so caught up in her being right when she has not a clue of what is on my account or why that she is even willing to put her job on the line and allow these horrible reviews. So Sad and I hope they can truly find employees who actually care about their members and potential new ones. This place has really gone down hill so Please Do Not go to this location unless you want to be ignored, disrespected, not listened to, treated rude and last but not least hung up on!!! ’

I would say it a thousand times (and would give them 0 stars if possible)… I signed up for a tanning ‘deal’ that they had going on back in March. I confirmed at the time of purchasing it that I would only be signed up for March and that I would only be charged the one time fee. a couple months later I looked at my credit card statement and noticed that I was still being charged. I went into the location and asked them to please cancel my membership, they would not refund me, but did assure me that it was cancelled. Today I got back on to look at my credit card statement (it’s a card I use all the time, so small charges get missed sometimes) and I am still being charged every month…
I called corporate and informed them that I am being charged, I was reassured twice that I would not be charged and further, and I have not been into the salon since May (it’s December). The guy told me there was nothing he could do, he would cancel it further for me… then proceeded to inform me that if I tell my credit card company that I didn’t authorize the charges that there would be a fee and At The Beach would fight it and I would not win.
So far I have been charged about $ 200 by them.
Do not even get yourself into a situation where this could happen to you.
I would write about the actual salon and services, but I only used them a few times and found nothing good nor bad to say about that aspect of the company.

I don’t recommend anyone ever supporting this company. I signed up for a membership in 2008 in Colorado because they are so pushy and trained to harass you every time you go in. The service was ok only for spray tans. I never used the beds again after finding a few dirty ones.
I moved to another state in 2009 that did not have At The Beach locations so I called to cancel my membership. As far as I can honestly remember I had followed the necessary procedures and I was no longer being charged. Now 5 years later I get a collection for $ 800 pop up on my credit report! I never received a phone call or letter letting me know there was any issue with the account so I honestly didn’t event think about this company for the past 5 years. Thinking it was a mistake I called their headquarters and no one there would give me any explanation, the customer service was terrible, and asked why I didn’t follow up to make sure the account was close… um because I called and closed it with your staff and was no longer being charged, why would I ever think it wasn’t closed??? They then only referred me to a collections agency.
It is beyond me why if there is an issue with an account you don’t call the customer to notify them, instead you wait 5 years and then send them to collections and don’t offer any explanation or assistance.
Having other friends who also had memberships here, I asked them, they all gave negative reviews. Everyone I know refuses to use their business.

I love At The Beach. I’ve been a member for a few years now and I particularly enjoy going to the broadway location. I go through spurts and will go continuously for days and hit a dry spell and won’t go for a few weeks, and the employees always remember me. I’ve enjoyed all the employees that work there (especially Brett! He’s so awesome!). I think it’s sad reading the reviews. I for one, always find my room clean, and the employees are awesome, and really knowledgable about the lotions and which beds to use. Thanks At The Beach! I love my 365 day tanned skin! (Tan fat is better then white fat ;))

Complete rip off. They wont ever let you cancel, and will run your credit card as often as they can over and over and over. They will then send you to collections and claim you didn’t cancel in time even though you have your copy of the cancellation agreement. Once they send it to collections, they tell you they cant handle the problem anymore and that you need to settle with the credit bureaus.
They have been sued before and charged by the state of Colorado for «Deceptive Trade practice». Don’t ever ever ever go to this place. It is run and managed by sleezeballs who train their employees in manipulation sales tactics.
Don’t ever waste your time here unless you don’t care about money and enjoy being ripped off.

Obnoxious employees, clearly trained (and likely paid) to push session/​package upgrades and merchandise on every customer during every visit.
Dysfunctional equipment including tanning beds and computer systems.
Over-​priced products and services.

Although I am still furious that this company has very shady business practices, I am upping them to two stars for drastically improved in store customer service. Kudos to the people who man the desk. As long as you are firm that you do not need whatever they are selling, they seem to get it.
However, because of their corporate policy whee they feel they are above the law by NOT sending a 30 day notice before sending you to their collection agency for a missed payment, I still think they deserve less than zero.
I recommend Darque Tan in Cap Hill. More up front, but superior beds, no contract, no attitude, and no BS.
PS people… Did you know that corporations can hire firms to counteract negative online reviews in order to beef up their web image?

Horrible business with high pressure sales tactics. I got rooked into a 2 year contract when I first moved to Denver 5 years ago — and after dealing with their AWFUL corporate folks many times, I just stopped trying to resolve the billing issues because apparently no one is able to help you. I just counted down the months until my contract was done, and tanned in the mean time. They make you buy glasses — which are free most other places and their wait times are horrendous. Especially at this location. Definitely go elsewhere!

I have never been in the place but some how they were able to put a mark on my credit report. I guess someone else has the same name so I called them and they said the person they are looking for has a different date of birth. But they still could not take the mark off my credit report.
I would not trust them or ever do business with these people

I don’t believe that Sarah E. is a real client or even a real person and it is my guess that she is an employee of At the Beach! That is the ONLY way At the Beach could ever get 5 stars.
I can only hope that they go out of business especially with the new requirement that you have to be 18 to use. I will do my best to spread the word that At the Beach is a complete nightmare. Before I went on vacation a year ago, I was roped into an $ 80 a month contract which I cannot get out of even though I have tried! The customer service is beyond horrible and I agree with Jenn K., Kris D., that they are unworthy of any stars! I think that I will follow Anastasia’s idea and turn them into the Colorado Attorney General for deceptive practices. This is one company that deserves to be put to bed! THEY SUCK!

Even after all of the horrible reviews that I’ve encountered about At The Beach, I still decided to give it a shot. Plus, there was an ad in the Westwood that caught my eye!
I was greeted by the manager, Allen. He was super friendly and gave me a very detailed tour of the whole salon, as well as what each and every bed did. After hearing about each of the beds, I was ready to jump into them!
After the tour, I also mentioned that I needed some lotion. Allen let me know about the specials they were having, as well as which ones would be best for me.
After purchasing a membership (which is month-​to-​month and you can cancel at ANY time as long as it’s 24-​hours before your scheduled monthly payment) and some lotions, I was ready to tan!
I chose to try the 360 bed, which is the highest bed they offer and it was amazing! I’ve never been in a bed like that before, but now I’m glad I get to go in it whenever I want!
With that being said, if you live near this At The Beach location, please stop in and give it a try. All of the staff that I’ve come across (Allen, Autumn, Jayden, etc) are super friendly and helpful. They aren’t your average stuck-​up tanning staff, they’re so much more than that! Oh I wish I could go back in time as well! The first time I went to get info/​find out prices, I waited 20 minutes before leaving because there was only 2 staff, and 3 people in front of me waiting as well. Why did I go back the next day? I’m an idiot clearly. This is one of the only tanning salons close to my home and in my ‘hood, and I wanted conveinence.
I ended up getting a guy, who was pretty nice, and I was clear I wanted the basic basic package. Had to be VERY firm and clear everytime he tried to upsell me to a more expensive package, but ended up with the basic, and he was only mildly obvious with his disappointment.
I came back the following week, and there was another guy was so absolutely rude to me I was in shock. I tried to reach customer service, or get a manager to call back — to no avail.
I went one more time 2 weeks later, and was ignored for a good 10 minutes until the girl working the front seem to feel she was caught up and could acknowledge me and the 2 other women waiting.
I tried to get ouf of contract after these horrible experiences, but could not. After I’d spent more than enough time pursuing this, I just gave up. So… I am the girl who paid a years contract to go tanning 3 freaking times. NEVER again. So pissed, this place blows.

Here is some advice for At the Beach. If you don’t want people to be so shocked by your pricing, don’t put a huge banner out front that says ‘$ 25 a month.’
I told the girl I was looking for the smallest package possible (I was only needing to tan for an event in a couple weeks. I tried to be as up-​front as I could so I didn’t waste her time.
She dives into this 80-​mile-​an-​hour pitch about all their beds and tanning options and how I really need to get at least 5 sessions in to create a base tan, blah, blah, blah. Then she pulls out a brochure, begins circling packages and dropping prices all over the place … one of which was a $ 105/​monthly fee, to which I almost swallowed my tongue. ‘I’m sorry, but there is no way I’d pay that much for a month. How much is one tanning session?” It was something like $ 35. Who the hell would pay that much for a basic tanning bed?
I tried to listen out of politeness, but I’d had enough. She went into ‘other options’ they offered, but they all involved contracts. I once again said there was just no way I’d pay that much, but thanks, to which she replied, ‘Well if you’d actually let me finish, I can make other suggestions.‘
I was done. I refuse to be talked to like that and said, ‘You are being so rude.’ Her response? ‘Sorry, I’ve done about 20 of ‘these’ today.’ Then she JUMPED RIGHT BACK INTO HER PITCH. Like nothing happened. The fuck?
I’ve had some bad customer experiences, but this one goes straight to the top. No one deserves to be treated that way.
