I’ve passed by this store hundreds of times and my bf has gone in a couple of times to buy sporting goods for his son. However, I’ve never gone in. Last Friday, I had a need for hiking boots. Since I didn’t want to pay an arm and a leg for boots that might not get used often, but wanted some halfway decent quality, I decided to go to Big 5 and check out their hiking boots selection. I was surprised upon entering the store how much stock they actually carried of sporting goods. They had a pretty robust shoe section. Some of the shoes looked like they were current running shoes, but possibly at the end of the life cycle, with discounted prices and there was a range of high to low brands, ranging in quality. I found there was a nice selection of hiking boots/shoes and I tried on 3 pair and found a pair suitable to my liking for a discounted price. As I was about to pay for my shoes, I found some tall hiking socks on sale for $ 5 each, so those also went into my basket. I saw a lot of winter gear, such as socks, base layer tops and bottoms, etc. that if I were shopping for those items, I’d probably go there for a discounted price. However, some of the regular workout gear I saw there was pretty cheaply made and I wouldn’t even think of buying it for myself. So Big 5 has its niche and I’m sure there are plenty who take advantage of it. And if you needed it, it appears they also sell guns. Yikes. Regardless, pretty decent store.

I was drawn in by the parking lot sale and then bought some apparel inside. Not the most amazing sporting goods store in the world, but very useful. They cover a fair amount of ground in these stores. For having a small retail footprint the store in jammed full of merchandise. Good selection, some sale items, then even sell outdoor grills here. Check it out if you are in need of a new jump rope or ball cap or weight lifting gloves

GREATPLACE. Quite often they have really nice deals going on and as far as this place from our office we use it from time to time. Most recent purchase was a fitness wheel for abs — price was 12 $, comparing to Dicks 75 $ … thats a huge difference! Yes, they differ a bit. but hey 50 $ diff for such thing — a decision maker. recommend!
