Closed for now… but possibly reopening?

Suggest you go for dinner and stay for the live music. They have amazing food — the fillet seriously melts in your mouth and the wine list is excellent. Make sure to ask them to pair your meal with your wine — the cheif will do that. If you stay for the band, make sure to reserve a table or couch.
With that said, I have to admit I feel like Blues on Blake is out of place in its current location. It’s surrounded by what feels like college bars. Given its atmosphere it doesn’t seem like that’s the clientele it’s trying to drive. If this place was in the Highlands, WashPark or even further up on Blake St. it would be more suited. I afraid it won’t last based on the location so go now…

It seems there’s a curse that hangs over this place: for awhile, it was The Dugout, which had its fans. Then it switched management a few times in about a year. Then, in what I thought was a really smart move, the current owner expanded the space into the sports memorabilia place next door, and renovated it. Now, the space is beautiful. It seems like the perfect atmosphere for music and drinks. Very cozy and intimate.
My first experience at Blues wasn’t a good one: I wanted to check it out after work, so I waited until their 5:30pm Happy Hour began. I happened to wait across the street at a sports bar, where HH starts at a normal time… At 5:45pm, the doors still weren’t open, so I called. The person I spoke to didn’t seem aware of the time. When they finally opened the doors at about 5:55, I walked in and was the only customer there. Despite this, they served me an orange (as a garnish in my beer) that had dried out over night. And they charged me full price for the beer, rather than HH prices. I’ve been back a few times, and it always seems like the staff is getting ready to open.
What the place seems to need is a KILLER wait staff. Girls in skimpy outfits only goes so far. Try concentrating on delivering quality food, drinks, and service. People can get drinks (and skimpy) anywhere.
I think this place could rival a certain wine/​music bar on Wynkoop, if they had these other pieces in place.
Oh, and take down the pink saxaphone made of rope lights. Seriously.

So it is Blues on Blake that breaks the dry spell that has been my posting on Unilocal.I’ve been to this spot twice now, and I have to say it is one of the more unique spots in Denver. You walk in by coming down some stairs to a lower-​than-​street-​level entrance off Blake. A spacious patio area is there, leading to the inside of the spot. Its a dimly lit interior, helped by candles on tables, appropriately enough reminiscent of a jook joint down south, but with better furniture. A large, full-​service bar sits in the middle of the room. They fix a good drink here, worth the price of admission. The real treat however is off to the left, up near the front. A revolving roster of some of dirtiest blues I’ve heard this side of Pikes Peak graces the stage Thursday through Sunday.
I have yet to taste the cuisine, but they have a full menu.
This is a great spot to take a date, and get some one-​on-​one face time. The crowd is come-​as-​you-​are, and some of the more calm, less rowdy folks in the LoDo area. Its right by Coors Field, and even if just on a pub crawl, I say you should stop in and get your dose of da blues.

Well I was very excited about trying this place… I’ll start off by saying I have worked in the restaurant industry for 10yrs+ and I may be a bit spoiled after living in San Francisco for 9 years and I DON’T complain unless it was REALLY REALLY BAD. I liked the design and the drinks. The hostess was nice and attentive, but when we sat down for dinner after sitting at the bar it went down hill. We ordered our apps and they were ok and then we ordered our meals. We were the waitress ONLY table, and one of two in the whole place. When we received our food ALL of our food was barley warm! I ordered a filet MED and it was luke warm at best and RAW in the middle. We all ordered mashed potatoes with our main course and they were all supposed to be different flavors and they all tasted the same not sure if the waitress messed up or what and then they were far too salty. The waitress had forgotten to bring me a fork.
When we went to order our dessert the choc cake was out, the ice cream was not cold enough to serve deep fried like they say on there menu. So after being told that, after we ordered those two items we had the Fruit Strudel X2 on the house due to my filet being RAW! This was a birthday dinner and had asked them to put a candle in the dessert and no candle. After all this we left and still left 20% tip. We went to have a drink else where and the received a call saying that one of our credit cards got deleted and we needed to call or stop by so they could run our card again so we went back and parked out side sat in the car and one of us went back in to pay AGAIN soon to find out they deleted BOTH of our cards and had to send the other person to run there card. This took about 15 – 20 minutes and finally we were able to go home. My over all feeling is that the waitress really was not that experienced and they have a lot of work to do about the food. Sorry to say I will NOT be back and would not send anyone there for dinner. Maybe drinks & music at best.
