Great location, carries all of the standard beer and wine options and also rotates seasonal and specialty brews. And the owner is awesome. Looks out for the safety of the people in the neighborhood and gets to know his customers. I’m still waiting for him to order my White Rascal, though. ;)

Yowza. It’s evident that this liquor store does most of its business with transients or down on their luck drinkers. That’s a little bit of me judging a book by its cover and a little bit real world experience since every time I’m in there, I’m the only one buying a six pack of «normal» beer. Other patrons are buying forties and bum wine. Also, the first cooler in the place is stocked with the forties, so it says a lot about priorities. It smells like incense that’s been burned to cover up some other smell and most of the beer coolers’ insulating rubber is starting to fall off. This is not a comfortable liquor store to be in. It is not a browsing sort of place. You get in, get your booze and get out. The guys who run the place are very friendly despite the state of the place, but I don’t know if there’s much you can do with a liquor store that’s been in a historically shady area for quite some time.

I’ve been to this liquor store many times, and I’ve got mixed – nice pun, right? – feelings about it. Aesthetically, the place is in need of an HGTV makeover. In terms of friendliness, the owner is tops. He’s very friendly and remembers you. I don’t like not having access to the hard liquor, as I like to browse away from front counters, but whatever. The prices are probably average and possibly slightly higher on some items. I can always find better deals at the Argonaut, but the bonus is I can walk here instead of driving to Cap Hill to deal with idiot drivers. I go here mostly out of convenience, so there’s that. If you need to get your drink on, this place is as good as most.

I go here every so often with a friend who lives in the neighborhood. As a small, independent local store, they don’t have the super greatest selection, but what they lack in breadth of choices they make up for in personality. Part of that personality comes from the colorful if occasionally sketchy clientele, but mostly from the guy who is almost always manning the register – he’s super friendly, hilarious, and will remember your face after only a few visits.

this is my go-to liquor store, mainly because it is only a block away from home. The owner Johnny is so awesome! not only does he have a great personality but he knows his booze, whether its spirits, wine, or beer– he will not lie to you. The prices are a tad high, but it is pretty much Park Hill after all. Johnny will also gladly order any wine he does not carry in the store currently. my only complaint, the store will close early at sporadic times. but i will always return when it is open.

Besides the smell of mold, incessant annoying ring each time to door opens and the feeling that I’m going to catch some form of hepatitis, it’s an alright place. They have cheap hooch and I dig that.

The location of this liquor mart is pretty good for local residents. I wouldn’t say there’s a huge selection, but all the products I wanted were there. The huge vegas-esc sign out front makes this place pretty easy to find and it appeared that a lot of local residents knew to come. I got a six pack of Sam Adams Cherry Wheat for $ 8.99. That’s a pretty standard price. Nothing special, but pretty good for the local vendor. Good location, good selection, good service.

This place has more charm and character than your grandmother’s attic back on the farm. As far as liquor stores go, they all have the same pricing on things, however, they don’t all have a Spanish/English-speaking Ethiopian man working there who never forgets a face and treats every customer like a brother. The marqui has said«Keytson» on it for four years in a row now(instead of «keystone»). If Argonaut Liquor were Wal-Mart, Capitol Liquor is the antique store your grandmother started after cleaning out attic(refer to beginning of review).

Capitol Liquors isn’t fancy, pretty, or brimming with obscure microbrews, but that’s not what it aims to be. Capitol Liquors is a convenient little neighborhood liquor store with friendly and helpful staff. They have a decent wine and beer selection, and they are open on Sundays. Sure, you might occassionally have to deal with a colorful Colfax character or two, but that’s just part of the charm.

It’s incredibly convenient to the East Colfax corridor. Big ups for that. Capitol is at its best when it comes to wine selection. The prices in general on the wine are a little high for my liking though. Otherwise, they have pretty much the basics, and occasionally have some of the beer on special. Not too flashy when it comes to beer varieties, but it’ll do if you’re looking for a reasonably priced domestic or popular import. The cashier is a right nice old gentleman, too.

eeeeeeeewwwwwwwww. This liquor store has always creeped me out; many years ago they had a parrot who talked like a sailor and the guy who owned it was scary and then the store went into a phase of I just knew a front for some illicit business and I turned around before I made a purchase. In the 25 years I have lived in my house, I have been to the store three times. Tonight was the third. I had over shot Mayfair liquor after a dash to get groceries and did not want to drive back for a six pack of beer and then thought oh what the hell lets stop at Capitol Liquor. At least it might give me a good Unilocal experience. Despite the fact that it still creeps me out, the stock is minimal, the prices high, and it smells like an ash tray, I have to give it two stars… one is for emergency only(and that reads in gas savings as I do not have to drive far) and the other is because you cannot mess up a six pack of Negro Modelo when the limes are at home and the porch is still warm enough to sit out and watch sunset.
