Denver Museum of Nature & Science

Fun for people of all ages! We were drawn in by Robot Revolution but loved all of the exhibits. The interactive health one is especially cool. I got to do a science experiment with my 6 year old son wearing lab coats, gloves and goggles – it was tots legit. We were here during a meal time and I was surprised at all of the menu options in the onsite restaurant/​deli. The prices were very reasonable. This is easily a place you can spend a whole day.

I have visited the museum six or seven times now and I always have an enjoyable experience. What keeps bringing me back are the temporary exhibits and IMAX features, not to mention that this is the place to go on the super-​rare constant rainy day we never have here in Denver.

Great for kids. Free for military. We try to come a few times a year my kids love it!

Love this museum. Family membership price is super reasonable & all of our kids (ages 3 – 18, so a wide range) have a great time too. Something for everyone.

My husband and I visited DMNS again on May 01,2016. This museum never ceases to amaze. We watched the IMAX film, Robots and saw the temporary exhibit, Chocolate, included with museum admission. IMAX will be showing a film about the national parks beginning on 05/​27/​2016. That will be a must see film for me. If you have never been to this museum make it a priority to do so.

I’ve loved this museum since I was a kid, and it’s still great. It’s one of my top museums in the states. They have a great array of science & nature exhibits on all topics and of all kinds. Some are interactive, some are visually striking. The mineral section is shaped like a mine and cave. The space area has a whole area that makes it look like you are inside a mars base overlooking mars. I’ve seen presentations made by people in «mars suits» out «on mars» to fascinated children sitting «inside the mars station.» It’s a delight.
There’s a great kid play zone for 2−10yos. The recent Sherlock Holmes exhibit was very interactive and stylishly done.
One of our recent discoveries is our museum membership gets is in free to just about every science and children’s museum coast-​to-​coast and even many worldwide. A recent car-​trip from Denver to Seattle, coming back through Portland resulted in 5 – 6 free museum stops at great museums along the way.

Did you know that guns are permitted here? Didn’t think so.
This has been a long time favorite for my family and is a key asset for our community. The Discovery zone is great for young children with hands on interactive games and water features. Lots of educational exhibits throughout with natural wildlife taxidermy… creepy yet interesting. Space area with interactive exhibits and fake astronauts. Native American scene, IMax with standard IMAx theaters. Interesting travel exhibits. The food in the cafeteria surprisingly good and affordably priced. Recommend the parking garage if the lot is full. beautiful vista of down town denver on the West side of the building. Even their camps are good.
But alas, we are letting our membership lapse as I don’t take my kids knowingly to places where people carry guns.

This visit was for the Chocolat Exhibit. It was amazing, and after walking through it, we were able to get a Chocolate Chai. What fun. Then we found the Gem Sculptures. If you haven’t seen them, you need to make a trip to visit.

Hubs and I brought the extended family here on a recent trip in to town. I’m going to preface this whole review by saying you shouldn’t compare this museum to anything you might have seen in a much larger city (and I say this as a DFW to CO transplant)…sure it’s pretty old and outdated if you venture into other exhibits beyond the main ones… And I mean it’s old! Like, time travel back to the 70−80s. If you stick to the main exhibits it’s pretty cool.
NOTE: if you’re traveling with small kids, say, under 6 years old, this might not be the place for you. My nephew enjoyed the kids area on the 3^rd floor but it’s a little small.
I gave the museum 4 stars mainly because of the quality of rotating exhibits! They’re always great!!! From Sherlock to Chocolate, I’ve loved the last few!

What an adventure it is to see the different exhibits without leaving the country! I’ve been here a few times and saw the Maya, The Sherlock Homes, Poisons in Nature as well as the Chocolate exhibits! All were fantastically curated and organized! The shows at the planetarium will blow your mind away and spark your interest in learning more about science. You must see a movie at the iMAX theater if you want an extraordinary moving going experience!
The museum regularly hosts events designed for kids, families, adults and educators. I participated twice in the Passport to Health event with a local nonprofit organization at the museum and it was a great way to introduce healthy food and balanced eating patterns to kids and parents! They also have many fun events for adults such as the science lounge and after hour classes.
I was thoroughly impressed by the food offerings at the T-​Rex café and grab-​n-​go bar. Not only were all the food healthy, they were so flavorful and freshly made in house! If you’re a vegetarian like me, you’ll love the grilled portabella mushroom sandwich, veggie burger, quinoa salad, sesame tofu and their homemade hummus! They definitely put in a lot of thought into building a healthy menu that pleases customers of all ages and dietary preferences!
Overall, I highly recommend DMNS if you love learning about nature and science! It’s such a fun place for everyone!

Whether you are looking to catch an interesting exhibit for your own intellectual benefit, or just find a great place to take your annoying, screaming, uncontrollable, borderline Asperger’s children, the Denver Museum of Nature & Science has a little bit for everyone.
For us adults, there is a variety of interesting movies on rotation at the IMAX, and exhibits on national tour make regular swings through the museum.
For the littler ones, there is a wealth of science and natural history to experience here, so slap that Xbox controller out of Timmy’s fat hand and make him learn something!

Museums are something that I think people can often take for granted. They’re so exciting to visit as a kid and yet as an adult, you get just as much out of them, if not more. I didn’t grow up in Denver and came here for college, but my visits to this museum have all been great.
I’ll say this. Parking can be crazy on the weekend. My last time here, I spent 15 minutes just driving around looking for a spot. Pro tip: look for a spot on the east side of the museum along the side road! Most people immediately go for the north lot and/​or parking garage, which fills up incredibly fast. After driving around those areas forever, I finally found a spot along the east side road.
The most recent trip was to see the Sherlock Holmes exhibit, which I was very excited for. I got my ticket online so I got to skip that ticket purchase line, but it looked pretty short for a weekend. Going into the museum was a breeze and the woman who scanned our tickets was very friendly and welcoming.
I’ll skip details on the Sherlock Holmes exhibit as it was temporary and therefore not entirely relevant, but I will say the way they handled it was equally smooth. The tickets for that works in time periods, in which you would buy a ticket to enter in 15 minute increments. The exhibit was incredible and the whole staff that was part of it were fantastic.
Outside of temporary exhibits, this place hosts all the classics-​mummies, dinosaurs, space, and even a particularly cool gem and mineral exhibit that features really amazing gems found right here in Colorado.
This museum is a really wonderful place to visit with your kids, with your SO, or even by yourself. It has something for everyone, enough exhibits for up to half a day of exploring, and a very friendly and helpful staff.

What a fun museum. I was in town for a conference and scoped it out. You can walk here from downtown, but it is a LONG walk. it was good exercise though and you can see alot on the way. Including the lovely park that the museum is adjacent to. It was not super busy on a weekday. They offer free admission for military. Thanks! I only had an hour to look around before I had to make my way back so I breezed through here. They have some nice exhibits with some nice, non-​traditional limited exhibits. I was there when they had the mythical creatures exhibit. What?! So cool. I see now they have a Sherlock Holmes exhibit. I’m jealous. And a chocolate one is coming up. Wow. They have IMAX and a planetarium. A great museum for kids and adults.

Great museum to have in the area! Not only is it an awesome museum, you get some really pretty views outside as well! We got there a little late (4:15 PM) and they close at 5 PM. I went and asked them if they would discount ticket prices for me and the staff told me that they could do kid prices for us or we could wait 15 minutes and it’s free after 4:30 PM. So naturally, we waited. We went to browse through the gift shop which was super cute with lots of fun stuff. They also have a little coffee stand as well!
We were super stoked about getting to go in for free but I will warn you now, have a game plan for what you want to see the most. 30 minutes is definitely not enough time to see everything. We went into the gem exhibit first which was really cool. Then we sped walked to the wildlife exhibit and ran through the mummies really fast. Then we went to see the dinosaurs and we lingered in there for a lot longer than planned but it was so cool! We also managed to go into the expedition health exhibit right when it was closing so we got the whole exhibit to ourselves but were seriously running around through there which sucked since most of the exhibit is interactive.
If you live in the area and money is tight, I would say go to one exhibit everyday for the last 30 minutes. Other than that, I would just pay to go!

It’s getting harder and harder to find a good time to go to the museum. Lately, each time I go, there are so many people and children in the museum that it’s no fun… You have to fight through crowds and park miles away.
Additionally, some of the exhibits are aging. It’s less fun for adults and so if you are looking for grown up exhibits, it’s just not happening here lately.
Their national exhibits are very good. The mummy exhibit is fascinating but could use an update. By far, the best exhibit is the Russian gem carving hid on the third floor. Do not leave without seeing these incredible carvings!

Great place to while away a rainy day in Denver. World class exhibits on most fields. The Mesoamerican pottery collection is about the best I have seen. The Native American collection is impressive as well.

While my expectations are high if you compare this to Nature and Science Museum of NY, it is a pretty great museum especially when they rotate their special exhibits. The exhibit on
Poison was really fascinating and could easily keep kids just as interested as adults. I also like that there is an IMAX theater on-​site as well. Also, you can’t beat the views of downtown from west of the musuem.

Okay… I’ve been here numerous of times with the kiddos. We had a family membership before… And then moved. We are back again! We decided that we needed to get the family membership again!
First of all, during the hot summer days or cold, wet/​snowy weather… Don’t you want to be indoors? You and the kiddos are safe from the elements and get to learn a few things here and there? It’s a no brainer. Yes, most of the exhibits stay the same, but seriously, 1 – 2 hours of educational fun isn’t going to hurt anyone. Besides, it’s not like you’re going to see the same exhibit every single time you visit!
Some of the family favorites include: Space Odyssey, Gems & Minerals, Dinosaurs, the Animal Exhibits, and Discovery Zone.
For those with toddlers and little ones that still nap (lucky you!), the Animal Exhibits are awesome. They get to walk their little legs all over the place, press all the buttons, etc. It’s like going to the Zoo, but not having to worry about their little hands getting into the cages. Plus, your tiny tike is enclosed within a room/​area so they won’t run off as fast as they would if they were at the Zoo!
For those with bigger kiddos, you can play «I Spy» with them and make a lesson with each of the animal exhibits. Make them read the captions. Heck I’m sure you’ll learn some cool animal fact yourself!
The Discovery Zone is great for all sized kiddos! This is a must go-​to place. It has been expanded! New and Improved! Yes!
And if you get hungry (trust me if not you your little tigers will be)… There’s always the café downstairs. Bring your lunch/​snack or if you forgot it at home (shame on you!) it’s alright, you have some reasonably priced choices (healthy too) for food :)
I would definitely recommend NOT going on days where there are school field trips (usually towards the end of the week… Like Thurs or Fri) as you will be sharing the museum with lots of kids. Oh and DON’T go on FREE days! Big mistake!
Looking for presents or uniques presents for the kids or that science/​nature loving person… Then the gift shop is great! Check out the clearance items. You can find some great deals!
Oh the IMAX films are pretty good too if you want to see something different.
From a Mama that wants to get the most bang for your buck, get the membership and bring your kids! You’ll be glad you did!

I enjoy Denver a lot. One of its little Jules is this museum. Whimsical, fun and always entertaining for the kids. They have a space exhibit in a couple of silly exhibits at the moment, one of mythical creatures, which includes the fake mermaid PT Barnum used and made a fortune over and also an exhibit about poisons, which includes poisonous frogs and other interesting things mixed with fairy tales and magical fiction, such as Harry Potter.
They have a wonderful gems and gold exhibits, including Colorado’s largest known gold nugget. There’s also a great space area with a fictional Mars colony to give you an idea of what it would look like to live on Mars in a colony.
There is also an IMAX movie theater, which we enjoyed as well. Parking is free. The Denver Zoo is adjacent!

Nice size building with open floor plan and high ceilings.
The minute you walk you’re experience starts. They’re plenty exhibits on each floor and escalators and stairs to get you them. This place is great for families and kids cause they have alot hands on experience for kids from playing with sand and water to being part of the experience. My favorite part was the dinosaur exhibition. The T-​Rex is my favorite Dino. They also had a mythic exhibition which was real interesting. They had unicorns, chupacobra, pegasus, mermaids, and dragons! Myths from all over the world and different cultures. They also have an imax theater and cafeteria. The staff was friendly and helpful with any questions I had.

Ein tolles Museum, dass neben vielen Themengebieten und tollen Exponaten auch durch die vielen freiwilligen Helfer noch viel lebendiger wird. Dutzende Volunteers erklären Fossilien, Baumringe, Asteroiden, die Entstehung der Erde, unser Sonnensystem und vieles mehr. Das Museum bietet sowohl für Kinder als auch für Erwachsene viel sehens– und wissenswertes und lädt an vielen Stationen zum Ausprobieren oder Mitmachen ein.
3 – 4 Stunden sollte man hier für einen Besuch mindestens einplanen!
Für Soldaten (auch mit deutschem Truppenausweis) ist der Eintritt kostenlos. Lediglich für das Planetarium und das 3D-​Kino muss der Preis entrichtet werden.
Ich kann das Museum jedem weiterempfehlen.
